  1. Hmmm...sure enough there are 13 with SCUBA in the cache name, but on closer inspection, only 7 of those are SCUBA caches. Perhaps there's another search I could use. Or perhaps some of you trolling the forums have first-hand experience with some of SCUBA caches (either those with SCUBA in their cache names or especially those NOT so easily identified as such). Thanks for your effort, Briansnat
  2. Perhaps the Signal the Frog antenna topper was designed for desk presentation rather than car installation. My husband (who mocks my every geocaching thought) actually purchased several items from the GC store for stocking stuffers. (Now he's an enabler...mock me no more!) ANYHOW, I was happy to see Signal there in the stocking and he made it to the antenna in less time than it takes to find a park-and-grab. Alas, he wobbles like CRAZY. He's not an antenna ball (those never wobble) but rather a hollow plastic head with a hole in the bottom for the stick. Perhaps next time make this a solid mass with a hole in the middle - thereby eliminating speed wobbles. Now..for a fix...considering some sort of foam insertion....hmmmm IDEAS?
  3. Does anyone know of any caches (in the U.S. or abroad) that require technical diving (SCuBA) skills?
  4. I've put my new in package GPSr on EBay. It could be yours in time for Christmas! My eTrex on EBay
  5. Heya POCachers! Recovering from a heavy bout (rash from head to toe...pretty much...shoulda seen the eyes! Opted not to photograph...) with our mascot. BUT HAVE managed to get 9 of the 10 Parks Survey caches back in action. You may recall that these were my first multi-cache effort, and it turns out it was just a bit much for a relative newbie. Several of the caches were muggled, which is a serious problem if the only way to move on is to find the coordinates within each cache! NOW, they're just 10 caches, some micro, some traditional small containers. (None as well cammo'd as the "A"vila-nche cache recently FTF'd by Droo - Congrats!) Start with 1 : http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...9b-1a0bdb5b4947 (BTW: How do people insert links to the web forum posts without the entire web address showing?)
  6. It's TECNU...before caching AND after!
  7. Our local group has just voted on a new name...well, a name. (We didn't have one before.) Given the local fauna and our apparently similar senses of humor, we've come up with Poison Oak Cachers. We'd like to come up with an appropriate logo. The options are seemingly endless. Sure...we could just slam a three-leafed oak onto four, colored squares, but can someone here come up with something better? I've got ideas, but not the computer programs to fiddle with to make it happen (Paint just doesn't cut it...and neither do PageMaker or Word). I was thinking about a really itchy guy...maybe with a GPS dangling around his neck, one arm reaching for that spot RIGHT in the middle of his back where he can't reach and the other reaching for an ankle or something. He could either be wearing a T-shirt with geocaching colors, or a ball cap with those colors or simply be set against a GC colors background. Technical assistance anyone? We'd sure appreciate it!
  8. How weird...I thought I HAD posted it to that thread...lemme try again... (duh)

  10. I inadvertently earned $4.55 while traveling from cache to cache recently. I stopped in a wayside rest between caches (to change baby's diaper - PEW!) and discovered a mountain of glass, plastic and aluminum scattered throughout the grass there for about 30 yards. Grabbed a little grocery bag to start my endeavor, but ended up using every bag in the car and two boxes I found along road, too. Do you KNOW how much ONE person can pick up in five minutes?! It's astonishing first that so many people would leave THIS much trash around, secondly that it doesn't take but a few minutes for even an individual to gather, and thirdly how QUICKLY those recycling pennies add up. We weren't anywhere near home (360-miles is TOO far to haul stinky beer cans), so I just stopped by the recycling center in the next big city we came to.
  11. Similar problems out here on the coast. I've placed two 4x caches in our area and each has been found only once...and neither time by locals. Thought I might put one in the Sierra by Coyote Lake (one of our "regular" spots), but discovered there was already one down the trail at Red Mountain! Could've added to the area, but opted not to. I like the idea of a 4x4 cache event (or just a buncha folks headed out to cachex4)!
  12. The mylar balloons are also reuseable as....mylar balloons! Call me cheap, whatever, but ever since discovering this I've saved every Mylar balloon that's crossed our threshold. When an occasion comes up, I find the appropriate balloons and have them refilled (along with some rubbery new ones). We don't have to shell out five bucks every occasssion and the kids are THRILLED with the resurrection of Mr. Sunshine, Pooh and others who would otherwise rot (well, not really) in the local landfill.
  13. I'm fairly new to geocaching, and quite new to the CITO EVENT discussion, but it seems to me ANY cleanup related to geocaching could be considered a CITO event. Right?
  14. If you're a AAA member (a good idea, whether you've a new car or not - maps, travel books, tow service and, yep, unlocking service), you can also pick up a handy dandy credit card key. They carve a plastic copy of your key out of the middle of a credit card style card. The key is barely attached, so you can tuck it in your wallet (backpack, GPSr case, whathaveyou) in case you DO drop your keys somewhere.
  15. AHA! Turns out you CAN use USB with Garmin Etrex Legend. I simply purchased a USB-serial adapter. Plug in the Legend's serial line to the USB line. Plug the USB into the computer. Have at it! Thanks for your help.
  16. Thanks for the offer, Capn Jack. I figured if you could convert it, there MUST be a way I could do so on this machine, too. (Surely in this electronic pile of stuff there MUST be a way to do it. SURE ENOUGH!) I created that ugly first try (see post above) in Paint and the results sucked. So I figured that program wasn't going to do much for me. In fact, it was JUST the ticket. Here's how I did it. Since I don't have PhotoShop (or the funds for such a program) I used PageMaker to create my avatars (there are three variations which I'll rotate now and again as the mood strikes me...and I'm a woman...so that COULD be often ), saved them as PDF files. Opened the PDFs with Acrobat Reader. Copied the images, pasted them to a new Paint file, cropped and saved as jpg file. Seems to have worked. Now...it's not NEARLY as awesome as the stuff you Avatar Czars come up with, but I'm pretty happy with it for now. Maybe SOMEDAY I'll be able to create fantastic works, too. BooBooBee
  17. I've created a neat little avatar for myself using the only program I seem to have that will do such: PageMaker. But I can't figure out how to save it as a .jpg (or .tif or .bmp for that matter). PageMaker allows me to save it as a PDF, PDM or HTML file. Any suggestions? What programs do y'all use to create/edit your images for avatars? <------------- And that's NOT it....
  18. I have a Palm IIIe. Mobipocket didn't work with it. Neither did several other programs I tried (I guess my Palm was just a TAD too old.) But CACHEMATE, coupled with GSAK, works fantastically! Well worth the $7. (I think I've saved that much in paper this month alone.)
  19. Hi all! I know school's back in session and that's got people's caching schedule all fouled up...however, I was suprised to see that Parks Survey didn't get more visits from you cachehounds! I understand the multi- was daunting without the multi-logs (as first posted, thanks to misunderstanding of rules by the administrator). Thanks to Droodles, though, I was able to make EACH stop along this path loggable - thereby providing some additional incentive (besides the fun family-oriented stops) to follow the path. I still consider myself rather new to this activity, so would appreciate any feedback on this new cache. (And what draws YOU to caches, if not location, location, location). Thanks!
  20. My first try at creating my own avatar. Only have Paint, so was kinda limited (that and my lack of skill). ..
  21. Ok, I feel like a COMPLETE dork...but the night I finally figured out how to get the PQs into my GPSr was the same night I spent 6 hours downloading, installing, removing and beginning again with various software to go paperless (with help from my Palm). ANYHOW...after going through various gyrations, I have the latest GSAK (Sept. 2004 build) and its Babel counterpart, Cachemate and GPX spinner on my PC. When I'm using GSAK, I try to "send to GPS" using the handy-dandy tools provided. I'm set up for USB connection (and connected). GPSr is on, PC is on, GSAK is running...GSAK says it's sending, then "OK" but there's no change on the GPSr (Garmin Etrex Legend). So...what could i be doing wrong? HOW did I do this before? SHEESH! PLEASE help.
  22. The Step-by-step instructions given by Hedberg are spot on. I posted a similar question nearly, but got varying responses. After downloading, installing and trashing three programs I finally came to GSAK. It's an amazing tool. And Cachemate was the only one that worked with my Palm IIIe. Now that you have GSAK, you'll want Cachemate to get all the vitals in your handheld. It's worth it, too.

    What The????

Trying to log a multi-cache that's quite involved. I set up my page, enter all my info, etc., click on both "yes" boxes, then click "submit" only to get an error page! Something about an exception involving '/' and .NET framework. I've tried on both of our computers (one XP and mine, a decrepit Me) and the same happens on both. Of course, when I return to previous page (where i've spent all the time creating my info), it's all gone, wiped out. I've started over several times this morning and now I'm giving up. Perhaps someone can give me a clue? (I've never had this problem listing before).

  25. Ok...I've spent 6 straight hours (all night, basically) trying to find a program that will transfer my geocaching info (specifically, hints) to my PDA so I don't have to carry around reams of paper as I travel these parts. I've downloaded, unzipped, clicked "install" to PDA in various orders, then sync'd my Palm...still, no dice. First I tried Plucker, but that wouldn't install on my Palm at a low enough resolution, apparently. When it DID install (yes, I clicked Low-Res and B&W), I'd click on the Plucker Icon only to be told by my Palm that the PDA wasn't capable of dealing with high-res programs. (Went through the install 3 times with same results, despite clicking low-res) Then it was iSilo (which loaded on my Palm, but would only load its own manual which caused a "fatal error" notification and reset every time I tried to open it). Now I'm working on the GSAK (nifty desktop program) solution in combination with the Cachemate PDA solution. Cachemate looks (online demo) just like what I'd like to use, but.... Here's the latest: I downloaded the ZIP file from http://www.smittyware.com/palm/cachemate/ into a folder on my desktop. From that desktop, using PKUnzip, I extracted the file contents to my Palm/add-ons folder Using the Palm's "install" utility, I asked it to add cachemate.prc (which shows as a 89kb ebook) and MathLib.prc (a 50 kb ebook). Then I dock my Palm, press the sync button and watch as everything else updates, the palm states it's loading "synchronizing mathlib," but nothing about cachemate (maybe it flashed by too quickly?). Shouldn't it install an application? What am I missing?
