  1. I struggle with how long to go before marking a trackable as missing since I have seen trackables leave a cache and not get logged for several months. I currently have a cache that was muggled. Between the time the trackable landed in the cache and the muggling, there were five or six finds on the cache. It’s rare around here that a trackable will last five finds without moving. The trackable could be gone or could be sitting in someone’s bag. Just not sure.
  2. Shilo is correct, including the suggested log edit. Welcome to the wonderful world of geocoins!
  3. Marveling… very nice. I do that a lot with these coins, too.
  4. I'm not sure from your post if you actually took the trackable or not. Assuming you took the trackable, when you log it, based on everyone else's feedback here, you should "retrieve" it. That option will automatically show up once the previous cacher logs the trackable into the cache. If you leave a trackable in cache then you simply make note of the trackable number and "discover" it.
  5. Absolutely, I'm having a blast getting to know everyone and learning everything and it even looks like I'm going to get to go to Geowoodstock this year since I'll be in Seattle anyway. David StealthRT jokingly frowns in jealousy. Have a great time in Seattle. I sure would have loved to made it this year. There are a lot of "doings" coming up in Seattle.
  6. I thought Geocaching was about finding and logging the caches and helping the TBs move on down the road, but now I'm finding out about all kinds of other things. But we live and we learn, so I guess that is 1/2 the fun... David I hope you are finding the "all kinds of other things" are enjoyable aspects of geocaching as well.
  7. I agree that the individual would have done a service to have also dropped you a note. That said, sometimes offering feedback through email can be dicey. Some people take any instruction or feedback as someone bossing them around and sometimes react negatively to such correspondence. It is quite possible that the person who didn’t bother to write you didn’t bother because while geocaching has some of the best people in the world (and I could name a few by name), it also contains a league of crybabies that could sink a cruise ship if they were allowed to congregate on deck for an hour (or maybe less). Since there is no way for the crybabies to differentiate themselves with some kind of marker, the cacher in question may have wanted to avoid rolling the dice on a big headache. With regard to learning the ropes, stick with it. It comes with time. It comes faster if you can find a local mentor, but it comes. BTW, I really enjoyed visiting your neck of the woods a month ago. What a beautiful state. I’m hoping to get back soon.
  8. And it’s always more fun to have the “winning bid”
  9. I'm not familiar with molten glass in this form. Would you say that it is quite durable (i.e. will it stand up when people toss it willy-nilly into various ammo cans)? I know there are no more ammo cans, only pill bottles, but just in case.
  10. I am all in on this one. It's big enough to work as a geocoin or a weapon.
  11. I cannot believe I missed MOGA this year. Thanks for the opportunity to grab a coin.
  12. Try putting in Riverwoods as one word. If that doesn't work, try Riverwoods as one word and switch the search from Lake Forest, IL to Mettawa, IL. If that doesn't work... the hotel was probably demolished and your reservations will not be honored. Seriously, though, let me know how that goes.
  13. Odd, but it really is hard to stop looking at TapTap.
  14. OK, I love the 10 years/10 icons you have working. 3 inches is crazy... in a good way. Any chance I could see a picture of the flip side?
  15. It's not unusual at all. Many get bit by the geocoin bug. I'll send you an email with information on how to easily get a Nostradamus coin. It really is a fabulous coin.
  16. Did it fall out on the trail or the cachemobile? If he was looking at it in the cachemobile, it is almost surely there. If on the trail, email the owner and explain the situation. Personally, I would definitely offer to replace the coin, but that is up to you. Travelers do come with some risk. Everyone who sends them out knows that. If they don’t, they learn pretty quickly. Most of us just don’t want our travelers to disappear and end up in somebody’s off-grid collection. Most of us would be happy that you contacted us and the loss could be noted in the coin’s page. Oh, if you offered to replace a coin of mine that you lost, I would tell you not to worry about it and thank you for letting me know. I also have to emphasize, if your son was looking at it in your vehicle, it is still in your vehicle. If that is the case, you have the coordinates to your vehicle, so go find the coin. Do not in any way let this slow you down in your new hobby. You are clearly conscientious. We need more folks like you out there moving the bugs and signing the logs.
  17. Great coin. Great cause. Thanks for the post. I'll jump in the fray.
