  1. Please tell me what these are...they sound like something I would be really interested in. Yeah, me too.
  2. Would've been cool to be there and meet you Tsun. Maybe someday I'll make GeocoinFest, or you'll venture to my neck of the woods. Glad you had a good weekend!
  3. Just in time for Halloween (hopefully orders should still arrive in time for Halloween if shipped in the next few days). My newest coin design is in hand and has a Halloween caching theme. The ghosts on the front and back also glow in the dark. The coin is trackable, and is the first in what may some day become a series sharing the following new icon: Cost is $10.99 and includes a 1.25" Halloween button. Shipping anywhere in the U.S. is $2.95 for 1-2 coins, $5.25 for 3-5 coins. You can find it here.
  4. Eastriver, a local cacher who has the distinction of being the person who placed Canada's first geocache (located less than an hour away from where I live), is really good about giving away geocoins. When I created my first personal coin (which, granted, isn't trackable but it is numbered) I had several metals made. The antique gold version is for FTF prizes on some special caches I place. The antique copper were for leaving in caches only (still have most of my supply of these to distribute). I've also helped each year with our local Lunenburg County Cachers geocoin project, and the first year the copper version was solely for leaving in caches within the county. I can think of 3 keeper coins I've found in caches. The first isn't a geocoin, but a military coin I think (probably a challenge coin). The second was a VIGPS coin in one of my caches, which I think I discovered during a maintenance check. I was really happy about this one because it was a version I didn't have and don't think I knew existed till I found it. The third was a JWID "I" coin, which I had been hoping to trade for at least one version of, and he was nice enough to contact me when his family had been in my area and let me know of a cache where one had been dropped. So, swag coins aren't unknown in Atlantic Canada. [Edit to fix typo.]
  5. Oooooo... can we make the first 10-dimensional geocoin? Maybe this time I'll remember to keep my eyes open for the 10/10/10 group coin. I had an 8/8/8 and a 9/9/9 event and missed getting in on the group project both years. Count me in for hosting another event, though I'm not sure whether I'll be in Canada or Ukraine on that date.
  6. There are still some coins left in the $6.50-$7.25 range. The sale ends tomorrow so I have time for invoicing and you have time for activating them before the event. Thanks!
  7. Not easily. I think the smallest number of tracking numbers you can still buy is 100, and Groundspeak has to approve the design they go on. One of the requirements is the coin has to say "Trackable At Geocaching.com", which I'm sure your coins don't. About the only way to do it would be to buy 2 TB tags (or other trackables) and attach them to the coins, and have the tag numbers engraved on them.
  8. [deleting double post after I got an error the first time and submitted it again.]
  9. Hmmm... I don't collect coins as much as I did, but there are still a few I'd love to get. 1) Groundspeak Mystery Square 2) Groundspeak Mystery Round 3) Moun10bike (any version) 4) Lemon Fresh Dog LE gold (the original numbered version) 5) kitkatt1960 My main focus on collecting for quite a while was to get all of the Canadian geocoins coming out, and #1, #2, and #4 are about the only early ones I still don't have. #5 is one of the few later ones I never got at least 1 version of, until I decided around the end of 2007 there were too many coming to keep up.
  10. I think it'd be a good idea; I'd like to host one again. mind you, I might be in Ukraine again by then, but it'd be cool to do one there.
  11. Last year on 8/8/8 I had a Flash Mob Geocoin Release event which went over well, so I’ve decided to do another one this year for 9/9/9. Here's the event page. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=gc1x999 (It took a bit of waiting & timing, but I got the GC number I wanted. ) To get more coins to release, I'm selling some coins at reduced prices. The catch is they won’t be shipped to you; they'll be released at the event. Here's how it'll work. - Go to http://islandbuttons.com/999event.html and order the coins you want. - I send you a PayPal invoice. - When I receive your payment, I send you the coin number(s) and activation code(s). - You activate the coin(s) and write up the mission, etc.. - All the purchased geocoins gets released at the event. All the geocoins are 1.5” and prices start at $6.25. Thanks for your support!
  12. Sorry to not answer before; I've been busy moving and getting other things done and just saw your question. The coin type will show up as an Islander1988 Geocoin for both, but of course, you can name the individual coins whatever you want. I had originally planned to name them something like "Ukraine - Nova Scotia D250 Geocoins" (only 125 of each were made, and my understanding is each batch of 250 tracking numbers can only have 1 name). The problem was the icon. I wanted to be able to use the icon again on some of my future coins, and I was told that the name associated with an icon could only change under special circumstances for a new set of tracking numbers. So, I had to choose a generic name for the coin type. I hit a bit of the same problem with my Geo¢a$h IV and V coins; I had to make them all Geo¢a$h Event Geocoin because I had to have the same name for all 250 tracking numbers.
  13. Good eye. Some places offer you a pre-made back side; I designed my own for use on my coins. The nice thing is, being a compass rose, I can make lots of different colour combinations, or use translucent on some to show the sub-enamel details. That way each coin still has a different looking back.
  14. Nova Scotia, one of Canada's oldest provinces, has the distinction of being home to both Canada's first geocache (placed in 2000) and Canada's first Parliamentary Democracy (established in 1758). This geocoin celebrates these facts in one design, incorporating the lion from the provincial flag on the front and a compass rose on the back in the blue, red, and yellow flag colours. The coin is 1.5" with hard enamel and is trackable with the new icon for my geocoins. 40 trackable gold coins were made. It can be ordered here.
  15. I've started coming to the conclusion I need to add a month onto the time frame I think I need to get coins minted. Mind you, on my latest coins, that was due to the initial price quote being a lot higher than I expected, requiring me to change the design a bit. Then more changes were needed to make the artwork workable and capture what I wanted. And then, when everything arrived, I found out the mint had messed up some of the metal/enamel combinations, and how many to make of each, on 2 of the 3 coins I had made. The one coin I was okay with what they did, and the other I'm waiting for them to send the coins they were supposed to make and didn't. So, I think anyone who has minted a coin understands that some things are just beyond the designer's control....
  16. I'm glad you like it! I thought the coat of arms would make a neat coin. The XLE gold version is running low so now is only available as part of a set. I also found out today that the XXLE exposed metal gold coins should ship from the mint in just over a week, so I've opened pre-orders for the 6 coin set. Only 3 of these sets are available for sale right now (only 5 were made, I'm keeping one, and I'm holding back one for later, and in case of any shipping problems on the other 3). You can place your order now, but I won't invoice for them until the mint says they're en route.
  17. They're all 1.5" with hard enamel.
  18. In the summer of 2007 I spent 2 weeks in Ukraine helping a group called CCX conduct an English language camp for Ukrainian students. I guess it must have had an impact on me, since this January I'll be returning for 6 months to volunteer with them again. To both celebrate and help finance that trip, I made a geocoin. The front shows the Ukrainian coat of arms, set on a background of the Ukrainian flag, with the word Ukraine written in English, Ukrainian, and Russian. The back shows a compass rose in the blue and yellow national colours. Four versions are currently available. Regular Nickel - $10.25US LE Black Nickel (30 trackable coins made) - $11.49US XLE Copper (20 trackable coins made) - $13.49US XLE Gold (20 trackable coins made) - $13.49US Due to the mint messing up the order, the XXLE version of the coin wasn't made & shipped with the coins, so I'm waiting for them to arrive so I can also sell sets of all 6 versions made. But depending on when they get here, I might not have time to sell them before I return next summer. These coins are all trackable and have the new icon for my geocoins. Just click on the links above to be taken to the order section for each coin. (Edit to fix error in 2 of the links)
  19. Invoices have been sent for the orders received. There are still coins left in all 3 metals and the set.
  20. A week ago I had a geocoin event, and I now have the remaining event coins listed on my site. They are trackable on GC.com with the EV prefix and event icon. Geocash V Nickel (50 made) - $9.49US Geocash V LE Copper (35 made) - $10.75US Geocash V XLE Gold (25 made) - $12.99US Geocash V Reg/LE/XLE Event Trio - $30.49US
  21. All coin orders have been shipped, and everyone should have gotten a confirmation e-mail when their coin(s) went out. All versions except the LE glow are still available, though the number of XLE gold is getting down too.
  22. Well, the winners have been picked, and the nominators have been contacted to see if they want the coins to be a surprise or if the names can be announced here. Either way, it was a tough choice. Many great people were nominated, some of whom I've had the pleasure of meeting and/or trading with myself. Far more people deserve coins than the 3 pairs I have to give away, but unfortunately coins and postage don't come cheaply these days. However... some things don't require postage. So many deserving people were nominated, I thought about how more people might receive something. So, I created special registered versions of my Coin Logger Assistant and Cache Logger Assistant programs to give away. I'll be sending all the nominators a pair of download links; one to forward to the person they nominated, and one to use themselves as a thank you for their post(s). This way, everyone wins. Thank you to everyone who took the time to make a post and share about the great people in this community. See you on the trails!
  23. I was gifted a first edition Lackey coin by Jeremy at GW5. At a recent local event, a couple won 2 (!) of the new Lackey coins through separate prizes, so I was able to trade a few coins for their extra one.
  24. Sorry, I was busy on Saturday filling coin orders, and then was away until today. I planned to take the forum posts with me to make the decision while I was gone, and accidentally closed my browser that I had them up in. I'm hoping to complete the decision tonight. I'll then be contacting the people who did the winning nominations to see if it's okay to post the winner's name, or if I should keep it a secret until the recipient gets the coins so their arrival will be a surprise. Stay tuned....
