  1. I don't have a vote but if I did .. there would be no subcategories for large franchised restaurants ... or any commecial businesses - after restaurants, do we get retail outlets? And as an aside ... as I wrote in a note at the first McDonald's waymark - it is somewhat sad that WM1 - the FIRST OFFICIAL waymark is a *&^%#$ McDonald's. And with so many McDonald's being registered right now a large number of the low numbered WM waypoint names are being taken. peace, fishiam
  2. Email notifiaction has worked perfectly well for me so far today - 2 waymarks approved (one automatic, the other not) and numerous emails on visits to one of the waymarks. peace fishiam
  3. Since placing caches under bridges is long verboten, they would seem ideal for way marks. And there could be subcategories - draw bridges, suspension bridges, etc. any support for this? peace, fishiam
  4. Well, if you do tennis courts then what about ... bowling alleys, pool parlors, curling venues, shuffleboard courts, badminton courts, volleyball courts, etc. etc. etc. Perhaps a sporting venue category and all the above as sub-categories. peace, fishiam
  5. Here in Washington state, alpaca farms are almost as common as llamas. And there may be other simialr animals groomed for their wool. So I would support a category a bit more inclusinve than just llamas. I don't know enough about these type of animals to suggest a name however. peace, fishiam
  6. I vote yes on this one. In Seattle, I believe there are just 4 or 5 leash free dog parks. thus it is likely this category would be manageable and not incredibly large. peace, fishiam
  7. Not to overstate the obvious but ... there are many happy mediums between mining an area with "lots of film canisters" and placing a "few well thought out" caches. The point here is giving to the game as much as you take from it. It is as Go West said a matter of etiquette. For a view of what top cachers do in terms of find/hide ratios merely check out the leaderboard: http://boulter.com/geocaching/leaders/?groupID=3 peace, fishiam
  8. I've thought about that from time to time. What ratio would you consider acceptable? I think that once you get caching in earnest, somewhere in the range of 100 to 1 seems appropriate, perhaps a bit lower if you're an FTF hound. If you go after those FTFs, then providing the opportunity for others is the right thing to do. Geocaching is a game, sure, but don't all games have both written and unwritten rules? peace, fishiam
  9. I echo gg's point 1 and I represent gg's point 2. I did once encrypt a hint - and heard about it promptly from gg. It was such an easy cache so I thought. Well, I immediately removed the non-hint and have remained at a more evolved level ever since. Now, for a real geo pet peeve ... how about having a really warped ratio of finds (many) to hides (few), particularly when many of the finds are FTFs? Does that grease anyone else the wrong way? peace, fishiam
  10. Miss K and I are out - a little too soon for a return trip to Whidbey Island. Hope you all have a great time and I am sorry to miss out on Ebey Bluff. peace, fishiam
  11. I'll reiterate my (and Miss K's) interest now that a likely destination has been chosen. We spent last weekend on Whidbey Island so I'm kinda glad the group is headed the other direction. If the group is considered too large though we volunteer to cull ourselves. peace, fishiam
  12. My 9 year old daughter (Miss K) and I would enjoy being part of this. In terms of geocaching experience I'd say we're past the novice stage but still learning lots of new tricks all the time. If there's room still for the two of us, let us know and I'll plan accordingly. peace, fishiam ps - What is BFH? I've read through the posts and it doesn't seem to be spelled out anywhere.

    Your Ride

My preferred caching vehicle has just two wheels. I use Copper for those slightly more distant caches.<p>
  14. Most people use this site, but I would prefer another map. and I did find one at some pint just don't know where it was. Anybody else use a different map to display their cached states?
  15. I am looking for a web site I once found that let you make a nice map of the states where you'd found caches. Most people use a particular map (uncached states in gray, cached states in red, doesn't show AK or HI) but I don't really like that one. Check my profile and you'll see the map I like. Problem is I can't find that web site again. Can anyone help me out here. And if you know of an even nicer map I'd love to know the web site as well. peace, fishiam
  16. The fishiam crew span several decades: 46, 38, 13, 10, 9, 2. The others' nicks are little "i", ildiko, geokilt, Miss K and *pixie* but I'm not saying who is which age. peace, fishiam
  17. Congrats are in order! Hey, thanks for the congrats! I am a slow cacher but my motivation is completeness not numbers. For the past 6 months my goal has been to log all active caches in the Seattle city limits. I'm about 30 caches away, most in far corners of the city that are tough for me to reach. Has anyone else found all the active Seattle caches? peace, fishiam
  18. I haven't had much response yet so let me add this. Several dutch cachers have contacted me to tell me they have several TBs they wish to exchange. So, if you have a TB to go to Europe, you will get one (or more) of those obtained in the Netherlands when my wife returns. peace, fishiam
  19. My wife is going to Europe (Arnhem, Netherlands) in a week and she wondered about collecting some TBs that wanted to go to Europe. If this works out, we would also schedule a swap meet in Arnhem. Having never attended, let alone organized, an event cache and not knowing the demand for TB travel I thought I'd post here first to gauge the interest level in doing this. We'd have to move quickly - she leaves Monday the 16th of May. Perhaps this is too little notice for a swap meet but we could collect them personally and return the ones she collects as well. We live in the Northeast part of Seattle and so would conduct any trades somewhere in our environs. So .. anyone got Europe-bound bugs? peace, fishiam
  20. nevcowpok has reached the 300 find level! Way to go guy! Hope to catch you on the hunt again sometime!
  21. I picked up a "Joy of Geocaching" type coin sold at www.geocachetreasure.com. It has a unique number (0400) but does not appear trackable. Does anyone have any additional info on these coins? peace, fishiam
  22. I'm just catching up on this topic and it all sounds like great fun. I travel to Alaska several times a year on fisheries business and I'll be in Anchorage the first week of October. If somehow the event gets delayed until that time I'd love to join in. I've found about 10 downtown Anchorage caches (and even placed one) but none anywhere else in Alaska and it'd be great to get out and about in the wilds somewhere. peace, fishiam (edited for grammar and formatting)
  23. I was in Victoria on business a few weeks ago and got to do an afternoon of caching. I'd recommend these three in city caches - you'll get nice views and they are not difficult. 1. Sea Strait (GCJ7CQ) - http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...46-f03dc076d6cc 2. Octopus's Garden (GCGEHO) - http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...9a-efb75abd0914 3. Crows in the Harbour (GCF786) - http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...6c-4c3d36d1db6d peace, fishiam
  24. Teeth through your lip? Ugh, hate the visual. As sympathy, I filled out your survey and emailed it to you. I thought you might add a couple of other questions like ... Do you find yourself thinking about puzzle caches as you go to sleep or Do you sometimes think you should cut back a bit on your caching peace, fishiam
  25. I vote for the Space Needle/Seattle skyline. Perhaps we couild add a plume of steam to the top of the Needle to appease all the Mt. St. Helens supporters peace, fishiam
