  1. BPR, I'd be happy to take the WA cache off your hands and whip up something appropriate for our grand state. I already own the closest geocache to Groundspeak HQ (called KGEO- Music to cache by (GCP056)), and perhaps at the appropriate time I could retire that and replace with a cache for this series. Also, I don't cruise the forums that often so at some point I think you shouild create an email list of the cache placers to facilitate getting info to all of us (perhaps this has been suggested, I haven't read every entry). cheers fishiam 31 states down, 19 to go. I may pull out of being the Washington State hider so I can focus on the other aspects of organizing this. If there are any Washington folk who would like to hide, let me know. I don't want quality to suffer.
  2. If this is to be the ultimate multi, you'd best use 50 caches, one in each state and require that a logbook be signed by any individual cacher wanting to complete the entire series. If you just needed to pick up a number at an existing cache, you could imagine teams of players cooperating to gain all the needed info.

I was about to vote as well but it was closed - how long was the voting open for?
  4. I was perusing the website and noticed that The History of Geocachingsection has been completely rewritten. It now gives full and complete credit all around to those involved in the birth of geocaching - Dave Ulmer, Mike Teague, and so on. So perhaps the debate at the original forum topic that was similarly titled as this one was useful. My apologies if this has already been the subject of another forum topic - I didn't see anything too recent about it.
  5. By some quirky coincidence, the last two physical caches Jeremy visited were mine here in Seattle. And some guy named Moun10bike has been doing and logging all my puzzle caches larely, occasionally even dropping a coin (his son's Moun10tyke coin). Last week, dgreno found my cache that is a bison capsule hidden in the middle of a 2.5 mile long railroad tunnel, said he walked right up to it!
  6. I wanted to do a puzzle cache using the 4 letters/digits of the GC code (after the GC) to be the decimal minutes of the cache location. that would have been simple if I could have requested a GC code. Instead I continued to make submissions (without the reviewer box checked) until I got a code I could work with. This happened on the 4th try. If you're interested, this is the cache: Extreme Minimalism peace, fishiam
  7. By coincidence, May 18th was also my 2nd geo-anniversary. I've stayed relatively constant over the two years, averaging about 2 caches a day and placing one every 2 weeks. I'm still pretty hooked - though I find I much prefer caching in the company of others and/or placing caches than I am in solo caching for numbers. I too have a gaggle of young kids and their interest in caching waxes and wanes and certainly shapes my participation. Congrats! peace, fishiam
  8. My wife is Hungarian and she was the one who first found out about geocaching - on a trip back to Hungary - and told me about it. WHY it is so popular in Hungary she doesn't know but she does confirm that it IS. Have a look at the geocaching.hu web site and you'll see that it is rather well done for being a non-GC website. cheers fish
  9. Well, I'm out. They just informed me that I can't even have my 14 year old son hanging around - something about insurance concerns (?!). The rest of you have fun but the event has lost its appeal for me.
  10. I've offered the services of my 14 year old son, geokilt, and I will shadow to help out. peace, fishiam
  11. Hi all, I'm not a coin person but I was lucky enough to obtain the first - brand spanking new - Moun10Tyke (natch, Moun10Bike's son) coin, which was dropped at a cache of mine (Einstein Puzzle cache). Here are pictures of the front, back and edge (I got coin #5, the first one placed in circulation). Hope you enjoy! The Front The Back http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/4021e5d0-...a033ba33788.jpg The Edge (no numbering on the front or back, only on the edge) http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/8881c078-...51e8c1ae871.jpg The coin is about the size of U.S. quarter. peace fishiam
  12. I'm a definite maybe if the scramble happens on the 9th. I'm a maybe definite if it happens on the 8th. And I'm much more of a maybe if the hunt occurs in the AM rather than the PM.
  13. I'm sorry I missed you guys (hydnsek and K7-wav) as I've never met hydnsek and only met k7wav a couple of times. In my 2 hours around the lake today it seemed I ran into everybody else! I've been organzing Sunday morning-type scrambles (as you described them) the past 2 months. If you're interested in future ones let me know and I'll keep you posted. We've done West Seattle, Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, and so on. Most people have found some, no one's found all and it is so much more fun runing into cachers as the day goes along. peace fishiam
  14. This is a crystal clear example of why I have come to generally avoid the forums. Cachers with a few hundred finds but many thousands of forum posts (on basically every subject) dispensing etiquette guidelines on what it means to really be a geocacher. Constantly citing long ago tough finds and praising the old days while belittling the state of caching today as derivative and inferior. Let people cache as they want to and spend less time making them feel bad because they don't cache like you say you do (or did). For cripes sake, give it a rest! peace, fishiam
  15. About a month ago I started a series of Seattle Jigsaw puzzle caches using online software I found. The initial puzzles required download of an executable. The admins then required I find a non-DOS specific way to do the puzzle as well (I am updating the older puzzles). When first posted the puzzles are very difficult so that the voracious FTF community here inthe city must devore at least a couple of hours to solving. After a couple of weeks I post a much simpler version. I could not find evidence of anyone else having made online jigsaw puzzle caches (though I doubt I was really the first) but I certainly don't mind - would like to see in fact - other series of these develop in other places. Just not another in Seattle The caches thus far in the series: Seattle Jigsaw Puzzle #1: City skyline Seattle Jigsaw Puzzle #2: UW campus Seattle Jigsaw Puzzle #3: Oncorhynchus nerka Seattle Jigsaw Puzzle #4: Iris virginica Seattle Jigsaw Puzzle #5: The Beatles peace, fishiam
  16. Hey Weinderdog, I don't mean to fry your brain! Check back at the page for My Seattle puzzle cache and you will find a far easier jigsaw puzzle has now been posted. This easy one is only about 35 pieces and the pieces are rotated to the proper orientation already. In face, one graduate from an unnamed university from the east side of the state solved the puzzle in under five minutes so it should prove fairly easy . peace fishiam
  17. All that education is really paying off o faux one - very well stated! I also (usually) enjoy (politely derogatory adjective) puzzles when I want to do a little armchair caching. It's at least a half hour drive for me to reach any cache from where I live. The (politely derogatory adjective) puzzles as well as the recognized excellent ones let me still play when I have a bit of spare time. Sure, like others I will get frustrated at a puzzle cache that offers no means of confirmation but most puzzle makers now provide that as well. No one has to work on (politely derogatory adjective) puzzles if they don't want to - me I'm happy to have them to play with. peace, fishiam
  18. No worries mon, I transitioned from the caching get together to another get together and when I started searching around 9:30 pm for my gear all was found just fine. Thanks for caring (though I was briefly worried when I found everything gone from where I'd left it). peace fishiam ps - thanks again to everyone who showed up, it was quite a night!
  19. And to think we got our 500th find together and now less than 2 months later he's about 150 ahead of me ... I guess one of us really did go hibernate . My congrats to you friend! peace, fishiam
  20. Nolenator and I were talking this over at coffee this morning. It seems the best time to have a get together is after the holidays. Also, Thursday afternoon works well for both of us. So, before I submit an event cache ... any feedback on a proposed date/time of Thursday Jan. 5th 4 PM - 6/7 PM at the Big Time Brewery on the Ave for a gathering of local (TUS and non-TUS) cachers? Heck, the first beer is already paid for (thanks BHMP!) peace fishiam
  21. I'm out! I have pulled far ahead of fish in the standings, and there is little he can do to catch up. Who says I can't hibernate? WooHoo! O wait, what am I celebrating? Caching abstinence? O well, at least I get to drown my sorrows in a pint. I'm hoping a few of the TUS can find a common time to gather at the Big Time and share a pint with the faux one and I. Next week isn't good, but the following week, perhaps an afterwoork/late afternoon mid week (20th or 21st?). Who's around? Anyone? Bueller? peace, fishiam
  22. You are explaining a Sneakernet. Depending on the copyright on the material it could be illegal. However sharing public domain music or sharing with permission is ok. Harvey Danger's latest album is a good example of something you could include in a cache. In fact, I would allow a Harvey Danger cache. For those who were following this thread I thought I'd let you know that I went ahead and submitted a Harvey Danger cache. Wine, Women & Song was approved without challenge or question the same day I submitted it. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this band's most enjoyable new release. peace fishiam
  23. My advice: Quit while you can.
  24. Team Maccabee and The Mercury Project are both penalized 15 yards for excessive piling on. ps - did you hear that in the Apple Cup this year, WSU tied a record of its own? This was the 7th time they have won two Apple Cups in a row. They have never won three in a row. The UW once won 8 in a row. The game was christened the Apple Cup in 1962 and the record is 31 wins for UW and 13 for WSU. The teams have been playing each other since 1900 and the record since then is UW 63 wins, WSU 29 wins and there have been 6 ties. You deserve a beer TMP. Two in a row in fact. But not three. peace fishiam
  25. YAWN! So not interested ... maybe the faux one will do you the favor of visiting your new cache. Me ... I really did give my GPSr to my wife and asked to hide it from me until next month. I plan to collect on that Big time beer. peace, fishiam
