  1. Here's a list of the crowd favourites at the recently concluded Cache and Release event. The event had lots of fine caches. You could randomly pick a dozen from this bookmarks list and probably be happy with all of them.
  2. We've placed three caches on private property and received permission for each of them. We also received permission for one of our public property caches that is placed very close to a public building. Each of the private landowners received a gift card from us as a small token of our appreciation (and to reduce the likelihood that they will change their minds and ask us to remove the cache).
  3. Last week, I met the Calgary Parks Department employee who is heading up the project. She said it has been a big success from the city's perspective as well. Lots of people (including new geocachers) are visiting the park caches. The bird sanctuary is incorporating geocaching into some of its environmental education classes and are finding it to be wildly popular, especially among children.
  4. Yes, it's been a great collaborative effort. The Calgary Parks Department approached the Calgary Area Cachers and asked if we would distribute 100 new caches in 100 city parks over a four-month period. A local GPS store donated most of the cache supplies, some swag, and some prizes. The Parks Department donated additional swag and launched lots of GCs and TBs. They also purchased GPS receivers for all the public library branches (and the bird sanctuary) to lend out to new geocachers. We've found about 70 of the caches so far and have enjoyed discovering the great diversity of the city parks.

  6. Smacking it didn't fix the problem. Warranty expired last month (of course). Not sure I can wait several months for the 62 series to arrive. But the price of a new 60CSx seems to be dropping in anticipation. Also thinking about moving to paperless with an Oregon 450 or 550.
  7. The Quit, Enter, and Down direction arrows suddenly failed to work on my Garmin GPSmap 60CSx. I reinstalled the latest firmware, which didn't help. I tried to do a hard reset, but that never kicked in since it requires the use of one of these keys. Any other suggestions?
