  1. I am looking for an older travel bug, one that has only numbers in it. It could be activated or unactivated. I am looking to buy it or will trade two new TB's or a coin (reasonably priced) of choice. I had one kicking around for the longest time and released it last year by mistake. I had been saving it for a special purpose and now I am without. If you can help please feel free to send me a PM or an email geocacher AT rogers DOT com - Jamie
  2. I had an order delivered to my house the other day, two packages delivered to my house for me... and one for my neighbours (well not really, they lived about 3 blocks from my house) I assume the driver just didn't want to look for the other address. In anycase, I walked it over to them and all's well that ends well. I am worried about another package I ordered though, it says it was picked up and accepted for delivery on June 9th 2010 (according to the tracking number) but I didn't even place my order until July 23rd. I will be on the phone with them this morning. - gracii
  3. I am not opposed to asking for help, seeking information on the net, or with a paticular cache I have even asking for exact coordinates for the solution (I still haven't found someone willing to give them to me but I am trying). I understand the original posters comments, about wishing they didn't see the answer online when doing a search for a clue, or hint. I guess it just comes down to how much do you read when you start to see more info than necessary I would stop at the point that gets me to the next step, and have something to refer back to if I got stuck again. By the way.. if you want to do some long division in reverse for me, I have a set of puzzles I haven't been able to solve.
  4. received my 62s in the mail today, but haven't been able to look at it yet (sent it to my wifes office to ensure a safe delivery). I will submerge myself in it this evening. If I have time.
  5. Thanks for the help.. Downgrade complete. Device still very slow, but it's working.
  6. So I have the 3.82 Software on my GPS and I want to put 3.80 back on.. How do I reverse the process of trying the beta software. My GPS keeps freezing when it trys to display cache info, and it won't pick up a satelite. I am hoping this will solve my problem but I am not holding my breath. Thanks in advance for the advice.
  7. I am interested in this adventure, but it will depend on final costs and timing. I am in Ottawa, so the 7 hour drive to Port Rowan would mean a whole weekend excursion for me. Keep me in mind though. Brendah - E-mail sent. Thanks!
  8. Can someone give me a quick tip on where to get the desktop icon for windows. I haven't been able to find one, and really don't want to make my own.
  9. Lets admit it... we've all done it grabbed our gear and taken off for a day not really sure what our plans are. I often find myself thinking of a single cache and heading straight for it. With my gear in the back of my car I don't have my GPS notifying me of the caches I am passing en route. Since I rarely leave home without my Tomtom on my windshield I decided I wanted to see what was active when driving using this device instead of my handheld. With 6 simple (enough) steps you can set up your Tomtom to identify caches (a few more steps if you want to sort them by type) and then whenever you in the area of a cache a notification sound can be played to remind you that your close to something on your hit list. I have found one reference to an article online but it doesn't fill in enough gaps for me (a PC user) as it is specifically designed for a Mac. Setting up the information on your Tomtom is really quite simple, if you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me. The following 6 steps will work best if you are a premium member, however if you are not a premium member you simply need to manually build your database by downloading single .loc files from the geocaching site and organizing them into GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) Step 1: Design a pocket query to locate a specific type of cache (for the sake of this post I will use Traditional Caches) when you receive your query you need to load it into GSAK Step 2: Select the Geocaching Icon at the top of the GSAK window to export your database as a .loc file (the .loc file could be named something that identifies the types of caches it includes) Step 3: Go to http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/gpsbabel/ and convert your .loc file to a .ov2 file Step 4: find an image that is 22 pixels by 22 pixels (I used the geocaching logo) however a quick Google search for geocaching icons will find a large selection to choose from and with some minor tweaking in paint will work excellent for this project Step 5: Copy your image (in .bmp format) and your .ov2 (created in step 3) file to your Tomtom. You need to put the file in your map directory (F:\North_America_2GB) for me. * Your .bmp and .ov2 have to have the same name to be recognized by the Tomtom and associated with each other. Step 6: Tell your GPS to show POI's for (whatever the name of the .ov2 file was) Then when you load your gps screen it will look like this: So in 6 steps you have your caches showing up on your tomtom. With different queries you could show all different types of caches with different icons for each type like: Mystery Traditional Multi Earth Wherigo Or as I did all types of caches with a single icon in a certain region. Further more with the cache displayed on the GPS as it is, when you select the cache it will display the cache name, owner and difficulty levels as seen in this photo As this is not a self updating POI you will need to manual convert and replace your .OV2 file on your GPS whenever you want to refresh the caches displayed on your Tomtom.. This can be done by simply exporting a new database to a .loc, converting it to an .ov2 file and replacing the old .ov2 file in your tomtom with the updated version. No changes will need to be made to the image file associated with that file. Weekly maintenance shouldn't be a huge issue. I hope this helps someone somewhere.. Good luck. - graciious
  10. Just what I am looking for.. To bad I am still broke!
  11. It pays to ask then, cause I know the original is around somewhere, or it might be in a dump with some of my other precious possessions. Thanks I'll get it out in the world this afternoon maybe. - gracii
  12. So I had a travel bug years ago, and set it up to begin it's journey but didn't release it before we moved. Since the move (although I unpacked everything) I can't seem to find my bug or toy anywhere. Is it unheard of to release the "Copy" in place of the original bug? It still has the tracking code on it, and I would love to actually use the bug it just seems like a waste. - gracii
  13. Well my interest in the Triton 400 has not waivered. It is on sale this week at Futureshop (Canada) for 189.00 and then I believe I have a 20.00 gift card kicking around somewhere. All that said and done I will have to look into it. I might wait and buy it at the end of the summer or put it on my birthday list. - gracii
  14. Anyone know anything about the connectivity issues with Magellan Triton 400 I have read a review or two on the problems experienced with them but no firm answer. I am in need of a GPS in order to get back into caching after a few years off. I would like to get a nice machine to work with but am afraid to blow alot of money, I went through a pair of etrex legends with many issues. If you have a suggestion let me know, thanks again for the input. respectfully, - gracii
  15. I had an Legend that this used to happen on, I would often find myself banging it on the palm of my hand to get the lines out of the screen. It's now in a dump somewhere, I didn't have the patience for it, It was also the downfall of my short lived geocaching career. I don't own a hand held GPS anymore, however I am trying to configure my TomTom to do the dirty work. If it works out I might make it back to the geocaching community in the near future. - gracii
  16. I took a long break to get my life in order and now that i have a stable job and a new house I can try to get back into some caching. I remember a local (Ottawa) newsgroup that had all the ins and outs of caching in the Ottawa area.. any help finding this again would be appreciated. - gracii P.S see you out there.. oh and is there a "gage" event this year or has it happened already?
  17. Hey I am thinking of placing my first cache, and wonder who I can contact at geocaching.com that can tell me if my idea will work or not, just curious who's the boss around here.. if I could get an e-mail address it would be appreciated. - graciious
  18. A while back Mcdonalds was thinkinging of providing wifi access to customers.. It was in the papers in ottawa I am not sure if anything ever happened with it. - graciious
  19. This actually happened not to far from Ottawa, it's really sad that this can go on and nothing comes of it.. Friday, September 12, 2003 Man attacks cub, wanted it for pet By CP WAKEFIELD, Que. -- A Quebec woodsman, who wanted a black bear as a pet, ran over a cub several times with his Jet Ski on the Gatineau River this week as the cub's mother snarled from shore. The cub, nicknamed Buddy Bear, was swimming across the river near Wakefield, north of Ottawa, when Denis Ryan grabbed it. The bear broke free several times by clawing at Ryan and tried to swim to shore, only to be dragged back out into deeper water. To wear out the bear, Ryan ran over it with the Jet Ski, forcing the cub's head under water. The 55-year-old woodsman got his best grip on the cub by holding it upside down by one of its hind legs. He then dunked the animal repeatedly to drain the cub's energy. The cub was moaning, desperately trying to breathe. "I just lifted him up and then I could dunk him. Then he couldn't breathe. I kept dunking and kept dunking him," Ryan recalled. "I was never mean to the bear. There was a couple of times I wanted to hit him over the head with a pipe or something but I didn't do that." To stop the cub from jumping off the Jet Ski, Ryan tied a rope around one of its hind legs, kept one hand on a leash, the other on the handle bar. He drove toward a public landing in the heart of Wakefield. He figured a cub on the back of a Jet Ski would make a good picture for the town's weekly newspaper, The Low Down to Hull and Back News. But the rope came loose and the cub escaped. As it swam for shore, Ryan's Jet Ski started to run out of gas. The bear reached shore just as Andrew Wilson, the newspaper's reporter, appeared with his camera. Ryan jumped off the Jet Ski and tackled the bear as it tried to scramble up the bank. "Then I tied him again and dunked him again to get the energy out of him. I tied him pretty good this time. He was so tired out," Ryan said. Wilson took some photographs, then called Quebec wildlife officers. Wildlife officers eventually took the animal, tagged it and released it into the woods as an orphan near Montebello, Que. Quebec's wildlife protection squad is investigating the incident. Anyone convicted of possessing a big game animal without a permit could face a $2,000 fine. If I knew the guy I would drown him.. just to get the energy out of him! - graciious
  20. I would be seriously interested in this one... I just need the additional information - graciious
  21. I got a cheapo version for christmas last year, within a week or so the screws started to fall out so I took the insides apart and kept just the folding plyers, and since I had them so long and can't ever recall using them I just threw them in the garbage last week. Next year I am asking for something way cooler (that has no moving parts) - graciious
  22. Hey I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong on this one.. but I think FTF = First to Find FTFC = First to Find Cache... but that's only a guess... and since I've found the magic number of 3 caches, maybe wait for a better answer or a confirmation to this one. - graciious
  23. I am from Orleans, but Ottawa is only 20 minutes any direction.. so really I will go wherever. - graciious
