  1. Sent it back. I know I should have tested it further, but I didn't want to get stuck with a dud. Went to Target and picked up the last Explorist GC on clearance for 75 bucks. So far, works like a charm!
  2. I was hoping that clearence sale would still be going on! I'm headin that way today anyway!
  3. I'll give it one more try today before sending it back. I REALLY don't want to go through Magellan Support again.
  4. Nope, it sure didn't take that long when I first got it. It only took a couple minutes, even within the house! Okay so I'm convinced that I should send it back. Should I get another eXplorist GC, or should I get an Etrex instead?
  5. Okay, so my first results with the GPS on the deck with about a 60 - 65 percent clear sky for 2 hours was... Nothing. Maybe I'll have to find even clearer skies. Hard to do that when you live in the middle of the city. The only problem is that today Amazon's 30 day return policy is up, so I really need to see if it still works or not.
  6. Yes but its snowing..... Well, yeah, but it's clearing off now!
  7. Well, I'm home now, and later today I'll put the GPS in the backyard. Thanks, I didn't realize it would take that long. Dr.Trenton
  8. Okay, my eXplorist GC was working fine before, but when I flew down to Austin to visit family, last week it would not pick up ANY satelites. I took it to a big open place and sat there for 15 - 20 mins, but still nothing. Tried reseting it and everything else, but nope. Should I send it back, and is it defective? Thanks in advance. Dr.Trenton
  9. Am I correct that you cannot update the eXplorist GC using a Mac?
  10. I was pondering the same thing, and went for the eXplorist GC because it was paperless, and that it would be neat and useful to have the info right in the GPSr. Got the unit a week ago and haven't tried caching with it, but so far it seems to be a nice little unit with a great street map.
  11. Oh I see what the problem is! The iMac I use is at version 1.5.8, and the comunicator's requirements are 1.6.2. Oops. I guess that would be it. I guess I just have to use pocketqueries and get a PM.
  12. Yeah I did the all accounts option. Not sure why it doesn't find it.
  13. Oh, and the Magellan communicator is not working for Safari or Firefox. I installed the software it said I needed, and then it says it can't find it. Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it!
  14. It's really weird, because it says I'm a premium member in the forums, but not on geocaching.com... I know it's not working cause it won't let me build pocket queries. I'm referring to the GPSr's software. People say that the later updates for this GPS make it perform FAR better than the version it comes with.
  15. Just got my eXplorist GC, but it came with original software version 1.0. Is there any way to update it using a Mac, or will I have to borrow someone else's PC? By the way, concerning the free trial membership that came with the unit, I punched in the code and it said that I now have a 30 day trial, but it still says I am a basic member.
  16. Also, does anyone know does anyone know the cheapest paperless GPS that you can get? (I'm a paper boy, so don't have a huge amount of money to spend)
  17. On ebay someone's selling refurbished Dakota 10 units for $160. Is this a good price, or should I save the money and just get a eXplorist GC for $140?
  18. Are threre any other good GPSr's in the $150 range?
  19. Hi all, I've been wondering about this for a while, and finally decided to bring it here. The two units I've been concidering are: Refurbished Etrex Venture HC: $109 eXplorist GC: $144 I CAN go paperless with my ipod nano, but is it worth the $30 extra to have it all in one unit? Any difference in performence (e.g. sensetivity, ect.)? This will only be used for geocaching.
  20. What all accesories does it come with?
