  1. Well, I haven't programmed a CITO yet to clean up my living room ^^ but I've started the worldwide events! N°1 is Hong Kong: 5 will attends already. N°2 is Kuala Lumpur. No "will attend" yet. Maybe only tourists look for geocaches? Naaaah, hope not. I've set up a website so look for your city! Any ideas to make the events more fun are welcome!
  2. I just can't believe someone would use CITOs for their own benefit!!! That's so lame!
  3. Maybe you should try Moscow! I just saw there's a Wherigo cache at the Kremlin! 'Would love to try that one! ))
  4. I'm a "country collector" as well except I don't do it on purpose... Well, a little bit... Most of my caching is far away from home because of work and I confess to choosing holiday destinations that also have a "caching interest". I'm down to 34 countries so far (and a few US States) and still have most of Europe to visit. Actually, I've been to many EU countries but wasn't a geocacher then (like some of you already mentioned in this thread) Because I return to previous destinations, I now notice when new geocaches have sprung up near my hotel... Makes me feel like I don't spend enough time at home! LOL! Geocaching abroad is great because the listings are different, the containers are not always the same, the difficulty relates to the degree of "geocaching maturity" of the country. A "difficulty 3" in the States will be tougher than a "difficulty 3" in Argentina. Sometime I pick ideas in other countries to hide my own caches back home. Hoping to add more countries in the near future! (off to Cairo tomorrow but for some unknown reasons I'll pass out on geocaching this time)
  5. THat's it! I've published my first event! In Hong Kong... I already have 2 "will attend". That doesn't really come as a surprise. Next one will probably be Kuala Lumpur, I might not have many people there: there aren't many caches. Concerning African caches, I get to go there fairly often and have usually found the few nearby caches I could look for. Now that "it's done", I feel it would enhance the caching experience altogether to meet people there. I'm only there for short periods of time (24h to 48h) with nothing else to do but wait for the flight back (thanks airline layovers). Even if the other cachers are just passing by as well, I feel it would be nice to meet. I'm planning to have a nice A4 logbook and regroup the events in the same book. A bit like a scrap-log-book. Maybe attendees can use stamps or draw things that other cachers, far away, will look at at the next event. I'm really looking forward to it!
  6. Thanks for all your answers! It helped. I think I will go through with it and try to meet others abroad. Should be fun! I was worried about attendees because, in some African countries, I feel the cache owners are foreigners who might be live there anymore. Thanks too for reminding me of the 2 week rule. I'm eager to start! Happy caching everyone!
  7. Hello to all! I was considering, lately, setting up "meet & greet" events in the various locations I go to. Some places have very few geocaches so I'm not sure the community there is very strong and I'm not convinced there will be many people. Even if it's just one (besides me) it will be fun. But what if no one turns up and I end up by myself. Does that invalidate the event altogether? I was wondering what we're the guidelines in that matter. Are there a minimum number of "will attend" required for the event to go through? Thanks if you can tell me and happy caching to all!
  8. Hello! I live in France (Lorraine), so fairly close to you, and I travel a lot. When choosing a GPSr I found they were similar whether in the States or in Europe. You will just avoid any typically US ones like the geomate. I bought a Oregon 450 but without the "t" in New York and, frankly, it is perfect for a worldwide usage. If buying a 450T in Europe you will have good maps for Germany so it is a pretty good choice I think. If you ever need more accurate maps, you can always buy more precise maps and put them on the flash card. Hope this helps! MP me if you need for informations! Lisa
  9. Hello! I cannot exactly answer your concerning the 62st and the 550t but I had to decide between the 450 and the 60cxs. So I suppose the case was similar I started with the GPSMAP and was quite happy to have a high-performance antenna. However, the interface is a bit of a pain. I later decided to go for the Oregon because it was made specifically for geocaching and it had a touchscreen (I also have an iPhone so I'm through with switches;). It displays the description, the logs and hints very simply. I was just worried the antenna wouldn't be as good as the GPSMAP's. As it turns out, I'm perfectly happy with the Oregon and I haven't been using the GPSMAP since. It's accurate and easy to use. With a few adjustments, I can also view the spoiler pictures on site. Very nice. However, I have the version without camera for I didn't feel any use for it. Now, I sometimes wish I had one.. But you see, my opinion differs from some of the other answers. I guess that, technically, both are similar. You won't be lost with either one! Your choice will depend on your liking the touchscreen or not. I'm more confortable with the Oregon "iphone look", I suppose. 'Hope this helps! Have fun, Mirage B.
  10. Actually, the owner of the card is not a geocacher so she couldn't have traded it by mistake. My theory was that she lost her wallet (she didn't say it had been stolen), someone found it and took everything out (except the card which I didn't see at first either) and it ended up in a cache. I don't even want to know what would have happened if there had been theft and misuse prior to the trade. I would have been in a world of problems trying to explain... Just to say be cautious with that kind of trade item!
  11. Hi to all! this is just a note about a recent "swag issue" I've had. Geocaching in Montreal, I found a cache holding swag of little interest. This only odd thing was a little seemingly empty wallet. I decided to take it to give to my 2-year-old daughter who might find it fun to open and close all the pockets. Back to France I give it to her... End of story? Not quite... A week later she comes up proudly with the wallet, opens a pocket unseen by me and claims: "This is my card!" AND SHE TAKES OUT A VALID VISA CARD!!! After recovering from my initial surprise, I had to take some time contacting the bank and the owner (which I found luckily with Facebook). Later, thinking about it, I thought it was slightly careless to drop that kind of thing in a cache as swag item... What do you think?
  12. J'aimerais aussi des "souvenirs" par région française. Il y a-t-il un projet en cours dans ce sens? Si oui, peut-on y participer? Si non, peut-on le lancer et comment?
Merci d'avance! Lisa
