  1. Ditto to the previous poster. I've really come to enjoy running queries, reading them into GSAK, and then exporting into MS Streets and Trips. Thanks to the guy who posted the FAQ about finding caches along a route for that good info. I think something like that would probably be your best bet on trying to find caches that are close to roads.
  2. Personally, I opted for a standalone GPS. A decent basic unit can be had for $100 (or less on Ebay), which is about the same as what you'd pay for a GPS addon CF unit. I do carry my Axim along with me to store copies of the caches pages for field reference, but I tend to keep it safely in my holster most of the time. One piece of advice I got when considering the situation was that you PDA is probably going to break spectacularly if you drop it on a rock in the field. Most GPSr's are robust enough to take a fall, I know my Magellen Meridian has taken several spills and is still trucking along.
  3. Also, if you've got MS Streets and Trips (2003, I know for sure, I assume 2004 as well), you can use the "Location Sensor" under Tools and it will give the coordinates where as your cursor moves around the map. I would assume some other mapping programs offer this capability as well.
  4. I was doing some random searching and I came across this cache in Alaksa GC948D Denali View That was placed in September 2002 and it hasn't yet had a find logged to it. Are there any other older caches that haven't been found yet?
  5. Traditional Caches around Pearland, Texas (77584) Within 50 Miles: about 450 Within 100 Miles: 844 Looks Like I'm going to be busy
  6. I've only been on a few hunts in the last few weeks since I picked up a Magellan Meridian GPS off of Ebay. But, in all of the cases so far, I have ended up literally within three to five feet of the cache when my coordinates match what is posted on the cache location page. I read about people looking around and being 15 to 30 feet away and having to search for a while in an area because they're so far off. I know that the WAAS enabled capability helps accuracy, but I have been stunned so far with it's ability to put me right on top of the caches that I've looked for. So, have I just been really lucky, or do I only read about the people who end up off the mark?
  7. That's funny. Wal-mart was one of the places I looked when shopping for my GPS. The one unit they had was the base model Rino.
