  1. You know you're a Geocacher when... ...you play Half Life 2: Episode II and think that there is a Geocaching expedition 3/4's of the way through the game. (If you've played this game, you'll know what I mean.) ...you believe the movie, The Shawshank Redemption, has a Geocache near the end. You think that Red was FTF due to the amount of money within. You know he LN and took money but wonder if he SL. --Ethan
  2. Sorry for the 20 questions. I'm wondering what happens if you load in say 50 caches and then are near one and didn't know it. Does it beep at you or anything? I'm totally new to the whole GPS game so I don't know what to expect from A) download the cache to Z) signing the log. Also, can you check it as found? I've heard you can't with the original software but haven't heard if you can with the latest updates. Thanks. --Ethan
  3. Really, you can do Paperless on the 200? Do you just download the .gpx files directly to the unit? Through the reviews I've been reading, you have to download them to your computer and then use a Magellan software to convert them on to the unit. That true? --Ethan
  4. So, I'm still GPS free as the one I really want, the Oregon 550t, is currently a little out of my price range. I went to review prices of GPS units at my local Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire today. CT has the Magellan Triton 300 on clearance for $89.93. I was wondering if I should purchase this unit and deal with it until I a) budget a bit more cash, b ) wait for the Oregon 550t to reduce in price, or c ) get a Garmin unit like an eTrex or GPSMAP as they seem to stand out. I've done some research on the Magellan Triton 300 and all the reviews I've found average around 1.5 stars out of 5. However these reviews are fairly old and I'm wondering if a lot of the bugs have been fixed via software/firmware updates. Does anyone have any experience with this unit? $89.93 is a sweet deal but I don't want it if it will lead to mountains of frustration. Thanks. --Ethan
  5. Canadian Tire flyer? I was wondering about this myself. Saw it too as I'm looking into my first GPS. Garmin's website says it's not Geocaching friendly. I'll keep my eye on this thread. I'm kinda fixated on the Oregon series but we'll see. Anyone have this guy and can you put caches on it? I'm new to the whole GPS scene. --Ethan
  6. Thanks for your help everyone. Yea, I know I won't be able to sell the cameras for retail, I more or less mentioned it to help myself get some math down as I wasn't planing on getting any sort of GPS for a few more years until I discovered Geocaching. Than that little bit of luck fell in my lap and now I can afford something. Thanks for the links, I'll review them and see what's best for me. I'm also in the debate of what's better, less caches but on the mSD card or more caches but internal only. Thanks for helping a n00b. --Ethan
  7. Relatively new Geocacher here. I discovered this sport in May and fell in love with it less then an hour later. Anyway, I've been caching without a GPS as it wasn't budgeted for. Over the past month I won 5 Flip MinoHD Camcorders that retail for $279 each. I was thinking of selling 2 of them and buying an Oregon 550. I'm wondering what the real difference is between the Oregon 550 and the 550t. Is it just the addition of the US Topo maps? I don't know much about the maps but I live in Ontario, Canada so I'm thinking the US maps won't help me much. Thanks to the new need for passports, I don't think I'll be caching south of the boarder anytime soon unfortunately. So, I was wondering, could I simply buy a 550, and use that $100 in savings to purchase Canada maps and I won't be missing much else? I've tried to do some research on this, including reading this forum but thought I'd start a thread to get specific help. Garmin's site shows the only difference as the maps. The same questions could/would apply to the Oregon 400 vs. 400t as well as I'm debating if the camera and 3-axis compass is worth the extra cash. I'll be using it strictly for geocaching to start and branch out from there. Thanks for your assistance. --Ethan
  8. How's the screen? Any real issues with brightness? I'm a 2 month old Geocacher and haven't purchased a GPS yet. The Oregon series has caught my eye but I want to make sure it's exactly what I'm looking for before investing so much $$$. I'm looking at the 400t. I've heard people complaining about the brightness. I'm certainly not Mr. Hard Core Cacher but I want something great to get me going. Any issues? --Ethan
