  1. There's a little problem with the points, IMO. Some cachers visit over 1000 caches per year (some several 1000 per year!) so all they have to do is log it into every cache they visit and *bingo* 2000+ points just like that; meanwhile a TB released In The Wild may only visit 5 or 6 caches in a year...
  2. The Great Travel Bug Knockout has now officially started, but will still eccept entries at http://travelbugknockout.blogspot.com until November 30th. But, the first elimination is December 1st, so hurry if want to give your entry enogh time to rack up some milage in time!
  3. You can give your TB whatever mission you think will move it along the fastest and furthest.
  4. Hello fellow TB fans, I'm organising a Travel Bug knockout race. You can start your TB off from any cache anywhere in The World. It starts officially on November 1st, but Bugs may be placed over the Halloween weekend without penalty. See http://travelbugknockout.blogspot.com/2010...y-for-race.html for details!
  5. As the OP on this thread, I have sat back and viewed the discussion as it has progressed. This topic is certainly a popular one judging by the amount of views and reply posts that it has generated. The one post that still astonishes me though is from MissJenn, especially from someone whose signature is Giving Some Latitude: No-one ever "blamed" the reviewers for anything. Personally, I always respect and act upon any note placed by a reviewer on a cache page and am sincerely gratefull when I have a new cache published, and although I can't speak for Pandamonium Kitty, I can't believe that there was ever an "agenda" behind the cache placing. I can't see how adding the reviewers note to the cache page can in any way be considered "not nice"; additionally if this note had not been added to the cache description no-one would ever have known that Curse of the FTF caches are now banned. Unless, of course, they submitted one for publication. Obviously, I have an interest in this as I was FTF on Rotherham CotFTF #9 and have #10 set up and almost ready for submission. I think that it is a good cache placing and will now submit this as a stand-alone, which it technically always was because there was never a requirement for anyone to place a follow-up cache, merely a request. I have considered the various Curse of the FTF caches that I have found and I disagree that "this often results in poorly planned new cache placements". Is your opinion based on actual complaints? Overall, I feel that the Curse of the FTF series of caches were a good idea. Several cachers placed their first hides as part of this series of series, usually after more experienced cachers had placed the first handfull, and they felt a closer part of their geocaching community because of this. If a cacher now wishes to place a cache as part of a series with other cachers, what is now the protocol? Am I correct in presuming that it is something similar to the Church Micro series where a cacher overviews the series to ensure that numbers are not duplicated? If this is correct, then I am quite prepared to oversee the Curse of the FTF Nottinghamshire series and will keep track of the numbers. I know that the latest attempted placement in the Nottinghamshire series has been rejected for publication, but if the prospective Cache Owner removed all of the Curse rules and added something along the lines of "If any body would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Slightly Tall Paul know first so he can keep track of the Curse numbers and names to avoid duplication" would this be acceptable? I'm not trying to cause trouble or get on anyone's wrong side, just wondering if there is any way that the Curse series of series can continue within the new guidelines/rules. Happy caching, STP
  6. Are Groundspeak bringing all the Curse of the FTF series to abrupt ends? See GC2A8NZ COTFTF Doncaster - R.I.P....? for details
  7. I love TB races! Try visiting http://travelbugbaja.forumcircle.com where races start every month on the 12th and can start from anywhere on the planet, so you don't have to visit any particular cache or event to enter. Happy caching, STP
  8. Just to let everyone know, my prize geocoin arrived today, one of Birdie's beautiful 2008 Cornwall coins. I'll activate it tonight and hope to place it in the cache tomorrow. Thank You Birdman!
  9. Thank You Birdie, I'm delighted When the coin arrives I'm going to activate it and place it in the cache, along with a few swaps, and add a few more hints. Thank you to RoPeHe for finding the cache, and everyone else for not finding it
  10. One of mine: Was deeply engrossed in searching when a voice behind me said "You must be hard up Paul to be looking in 'phone boxes for loose change!". It was a work colleague who happened to be passing. Trust me to be muggled by someone I know at 5:30 am! After I explained what I was looking for he looked at me like I was mad. I may do the same the next time I pass a mirror
  11. I hope that mine is too far away for you to bother with Mrs.B
  12. I spotted that too and thought that I might win Least Found with a Traditional. I even considered putting it near to another cache that I had set, so that no-one could place a cache within the minimum distance, and then archive the first cache and submit the second cache for publication just before New Year's Eve. But then I read further down the rules where it says that to be in The Challenge you have to hide a cache and get it published
  13. As my entry in Birdie's Peach Jar Challenge has been live for a week, I thought that I would post some thoughts on the challenge so far; Firstly, Thank You to the Birdman for starting the challenge. I've only been caching for a couple of months but I was already thinking of placing a cache, and this just gave me the push that I needed to do it. If you've never placed a cache, then you're not getting the full GC experience. It's great fun to read the logs (and thankfully mine have been positive) and follow it's progress. Also, I think that my cache has inspired another competitor in The Family Bu, so that's great Secondly, Thank You to Tavisman for putting a link on his cache's page to mine and starting the first leaderboard, especially as the changing name of my cache must be causing him some extra work he didn't bargain for Next I would like to give a nod to Notts Cachers John + Carol. After I found their nanocache GC1HDY8 Dynamite Offer John changed the name to Summer Music Sundae and a little bulb went on over my head "I didn't know that you could do that!", so Thank You for the inspiration John Oh, and don't be put off finding mine if you can't think of a name for it, after all the FTF didn't choose a new name. As for the competition, I think that Camel Cachers have played a blinder by placing their cache near the upcoming Mega which will be overflowing with cachers, although can I just point out that technically I'm still leading the Least Found category as the found cache with the fewest finds Good Luck to everyone, regards, Paul
  14. Another entrant: GC1VGRC BPJC: M1 Junction 29: Eleanor's Kitty Cache Regards, Paul
