Typically when you are in Compass mode, to get a more accurate reading (compass pointing north) you need to hold the GPSr as level as possible. There are sensors indicating level, and if you aren't, the message pops up on the screen. And don't trust the ground as level. You can test this theory by tipping the GPSr forward and backward and watch the compass move. I usually carry a magnetic compass as a backup, and test North on the compass with North on the GPSr. The magnetic compass also comes in handy sometimes under a heavy canopy so you can triangulate possible hiding spots.

I recently upgraded to a Garmin 60CS, and I have my former eTrex Vista for sale. The best thing is... I JUST got this back from Garmin on April 22, 2005 after sending it in for repairs. The screen was acting flaky (the lines) so I thought I would send it in for repairs before I offered it up for sale. The replaced the unit, and I haven't used it, so it is just like new. I will even include the paperwork that came back with it. Also included will be the serial cable, the original manual, and if the buyer so chooses, I can put the metro guide maps of thier area on it. I am looking to get about $155 + $5 USPS Priority shipping, but any reasonable offer could be considered. I can take paypal if that makes things easier for you. The warranty period on this unit will run until September 2005. -The Bill

Just got off the phone with Office Max. The Vista will be coming directly from Garmin, and they are backordered at the factory. No estimate of when they will ship. I was told Garmin would be contacting me about delivery date. I ordered mine September 3rd, and delivery was supposed to be today (14th). Looks like I keep working with my brother's Legend for a little while longer. I really don't like BlowBuy, and I think my aura displays that when I go in, so the sales people are always A pain to deal with. So if it's a matter of waiting to keep the money from going in BlowBuys pockets. I will NOT give them my money. It's worth waiting.
