  1. Hi All

So looking forward to this event after attending the Mega 2012. Is there any update on the Camping as I will need to book some time off and need to know the dates?

The plan is to have camping available from the Monday night prior to the event right up to the event weekend itself. More information soon as we are in the process of finalising details. This way people can come straight to us from Piratemania ;)

  2. Hello signal, lackeys, founders and forum readers(is that everyone?),

I've searched the forums for something similar, but can't find any previous suggestions that overlap with my genius notion, but...

I had an idea which i think would add a 1-2%* improvement to the social aspect of gcing.

Groups man!!!! Yeah i know you are blown away.

Each of your principal entities could be grouped into collections temporary or permanent: users into teams, caches into series and trackables into races.

    Caches

I realise that bookmark lists alrady exist, but if caches were placed into a parent collection then when all caches are found, the colection coukd be "smilied". The whole series could be published together and available instantly as a pocket query.

    Users

At events we go 'caching en masse and sign the logs on behalf of Team X (not always team x sometime team uppergumtree or equivalent). Wouldn't it be just AMAZING if the members of the team could group together to reflect this, so the online world mirrors the offline "real" world? {i hear a resounding "yes" from the lillypad}.

I also know a number of users who regularly 'cache together (although they never invite me :-( ), they could form a permenant group (or clique) which could have its own stats etc. (zt least this will keep kyle mills busy implementin a new range of badges).

TBs (and this is where the whole AMAZING idea came from)

I see a number of trackable travelbug races going on and the level of admin required to maintain them is CRAZY. Why then not just group your TBs on activation as part of the

race and let gc.com do the heavy lifting. (then watch in despair as your TBs go missing :-( So group them together and then any user can search on the group and see the leader board and where the TBs are.

    What do you think?

    * percentages arbitrarily chosen

I fully agree regarding the grouping of TBs, particularly as I am managing a race at the moment. The ability to group these (via perhaps a bookmark) and then display all bookmarked TBs on the same web page, along with current location and total visits/miles would be brilliant, also allowing order by options e.g. name, mileage ;-)

  3. Thanks for the reply and help, but i'm still not having success. When I "open" up the Garmin while it is attached to the Mac via a USB cable, the GPX folder shows that it is in the Garmin already. I'm confused when you say to "navigate to that folder and drag it into the Garmin."

Sometimes the GPS does not see the file as "changed" and therefore does not reload the waypoints.

If the .gpx file shows up in the /Garmin/GPX folder already, delete it, eject and restart the unit them re-connect it, recopy the .gpx file, eject again and restart again. As it restarts it should indicate that it is updating its waypoints.

  4. I updated my Oregon 550t to version 4.8 (released 19th August 2011) this morning before heading out Geocaching.

Unfortunately this resulted in the loss of my geocache icons from the map display on my OS 1:25K map, although I could still select and navigate to them. Once I set the map detail to "LEAST" they reappeared but only when zoomed out a little. I tried all options but could not get them to display correctly on anything other than the Topo map. Now back at home I have reverted the software to version 4.5 and all is back to normal.

    A word of warning therefore...

  5. I've received notifications during the past week. There is no way to "unsubscribe" yourself from notifications when someone finds your cache. They are sent out automatically, so if people are finding your caches, you will automatically get the notifications.

Perhaps your email provider is blocking the messages, thinking their spam.

You could switch email providers and change your email address in the system and then do a couple test logs/finds on your caches to see if the notification goes through with the new email address. If so, it would indicate a problem with your original provider.

Many thanks - sorted. I did change the email address and messages were then coming through. Changed back to my hotmail address and messages once again stopped. I then found that somehow the geocache email address had been added to by "blocked" list so I deleted it and added it to the "allow" list and then re-validated my email address. Hey presto, everything works. Thanks for your suggestion.......

  6. Has anybody else had this problem?

I have received no owner notifications for the last week or so although my caches continue to be found daily? I have recently renewed my membership and under the "email" options there is nothing related to member notifications so I don't know if this is a general problem or how to re-enable them

    Can somebody advise......
