  1. I know the 60 comes with a belt clip, is there an equivalent for the 76? I much prefer a belt clip to a pouch, I find it's easier access.
  2. Thuesday me and my girl were downdown Montreal and when we were about to take the Metro she saw a big shoe box on the floor, she just picked it up and peek inside to see if nothing important was left behind by somebody. Turn out to be only an empty box. It occured to me a few moments after she had picked it up that you would never do that in the States, you would call somebody and a whole big event who evolve from that. Wonder if we will ever reach that level of paranoia.
  3. I have to admit, I like this one best! Thanks for the plug. Episode 5 has just been released and I'll be making a post to the forum soon. Yeah I downloaded it this morning, but I have yet had the chance to look at it. Thanks for doing this BTW, it's a lot of work you are doing and we appreciate it, you make the geocaching world a better place one cast at a time.
  4. Yeah... right... not the numbers... 38 caches a month since you started playing, I'd say you've been busy. You'll catch up to Smudge's master in no time, you're just about half way there.
  5. Try this site: http://www.quebecgps.com/phpBB2/ This is the forum for the Quebec branch of French geocachers, maybe you can get help from them. I would help, but the line is way too far for me. On the other hand, since i speak french, why don't I go ask for ya?
  6. I would hop on for two or three
  7. Is mostly any audio information, such as news, reports, and anything else for that matter (there's even comedy and entire plays in there), it stems from having the option of bringing your news with you on your portable MP3 player (iPod or the likes), and listening to it at your own pace in your own time. For instance, every morning I leave my house with the local news and the daily mac news, which I listen to on my way to work. And once a week I get the weekly CBC Radio 3 music podcast, and other weekly shows. You listen to podcasts as you would a simple radio show but instead of tunning in you download MP3 sound files.
  8. No problem, I mostly listen to computer news ( TWiT, InsideMac, etc.) to keep up to date, and I do also listen to "Science at NASA" and the now offline "Quirks and Quarks" from CBC. But if you like British style comedy (Monty Python like), check out "Clever Little Pod", it's a gas!
  9. I wanted to know how many of you make use and listen to podcasting? There are a few about geocaching out there, 4 actually, 2 that I consider really good and fun to listen too (PodCacher and CacheCast). In case anybody is interested, here is the info about all of them, you can download them manually in MP3 format, or you can use the feed link with a podcasting agent such as iTunes: Pod Cacher (16 episodes so far) Web http://www.podcacher.com/ Feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/podcacher Geo Radio (10 episodes so far) Web http://www.georadio.org/ Feed http://www.georadio.org/geo.xml Cache Cast (10 episodes so far) Web http://www.cachecaster.com/ Feed http://cachecast.podbus.com/ And here is a Videocasting version from Vancouver. Icenrye's Geocaching Videozine (5 episodes so far) Web http://www.icenrye.com/newsite/ Feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/geovideo Let me know what you think of them...
  10. everything and anything needed? With some people that includes way too much, I would need to carry three backpacks to get everything my girl would want to have along. It all comes from how we grew up with camping. For me it was walking as far away from civilisation as possible and setting up camp with tents and living off the land as best we could. For my life partner it was campers, parks, acces to everything, beach and so on. We never see eye to eye about what to bring, my take on it is, whatever I see has overflow (Hibachi, Chairs, etc.), she can carry it. JUST KIDDING LOVE!!! (I'll just lose them along the way, oups, where did that leather bond edition of LOTR go?)
  11. I wanted to increase my numbers during my summer vacation, and ended up spending my entire time just creating and hiding caches (19 in all), I only started finding caches after I started to work again. Sheesh, no wonder my numbers are slow moving.
  12. .....Worried about bears in your area? Read these precautions. Canada's British Columbia and Alberta Departments of Fish and Wildlife, are advising hikers, hunters, fishers, and golfers to take extra precautions and keep alert for bears while in the forested areas. They advise people to wear noise-producing devices such as little bells on their clothing to alert but not startle the bears unexpectedly. They also advise carrying of pepper spray in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch for fresh signs of bear activity. People should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear droppings. Black bear droppings are smaller and contain berries and possibly squirrel fur. Grizzly bear droppings have little bells in them and smell like pepper spray.
  13. Wait a minute, why would they nab you for this? How do they know how you would make use of it, you could use it in the states but live in Canada, you could work in the States and reside in Canada, you can geocache in the states and use the GMRS and Geocache in Canada and use the FRS channels. How can they prove that you would use it illegaly or not? I doubt very much that there would be any nabbing involved here on the part of Garmin. They did their job by not making this product available in Canada, anything beyond that is none of their concerns, or for that matter, none of their business. They are not the police or the goverment.
  14. I want to get a Rino 530, but I’m confused about a few things... Gamin states that their Rino 530 has a 5 watts/14 miles/22 Kilometers range, but the power is limited to 2 watts/8 miles/13 Kilometers range in Canada. How is this limit made, is this only in Rino’s sold in Canada, or is the GPS smart enought to tell that it’s in Canada and blocks the transmision power? If I buy a Rino from the states, what happens then? Thanks for the help!
  15. I concur, I never had a problem personally but my caches have been bilingual since things have picked up in Quebec. I can imagine the frustrations of a french only speaking member who receives a rebuttal or challenge from the reviewer translated by google or babble (Has anybody ever tried to read an english text using that thing), it can cause headaches and misunderstandings that can hinder (see even invalidate) the approval of caches that are quite effortless in the end. So my vote as PREMIUM MEMBER ( for whatever that's worth ) goes for the availability of a fully bilingual reviewer for Quebec, or Canada for that matter, who knows, maybe there are a few french speaking Canadians in the rest of Canada that have not placed caches from lack of understanding the English language, wouldn't that be a shame? The more the merrier I say. Hopping to see ya all on the trails... Now here is the same text, written in French and translated back into English using Google, see if you can spot the mistakes that can cause problems. :-) --- --- I of agreement, personally I never had problems, but, my masks in Quebec are always bilingual since thing go well here. I to imagine frustrations very well little that a French québécois to have little by receiving a message transcribed by Google or Babble (have you already to try to read English texts using this thing) its little to cause headaches and errors which can slow down (see even stopping) the approval of a hiding place which is probably very simple A the end. Then my vote as MEMBER PREMIUM (for what his is worth) goes has the availability of a bilingual approuvor for Quebec, or Canada, which knows, little-to even be that certain French Canadian in the remainder of Canada does not place masks because it does not understand enough the English language, its would not be ashamed? Month I says, more have is best it is One hoping to see you on the path... --- ---

  17. I am very excited about this mini or small option, most of my caches would fall in that area since they are urban caches, they are not micros, they are roomy enough for TBs and stuff, and yet, they are certainly not amo boxes either. Thanks for this new option guys, can't wait to see it fully implemented!
  18. I found it too, it's not about approval, it's because it's been archived, that means the creator decided to stop it or cancel it. Too bad, I could have done that one next month when I took my plane ride to my vacation.
  19. On a similar topic, I saw this at Tiger Direct here in Canada: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/se...3&sku=D135-1170 It's the Digicom Xtreme Mini Power Pack, and is used for extra power on digital cameras, I was wondering if it could be adapted to a SportrakPro or other GPS receivers for extra airtime. (More Power to the engins Scotty!)
  20. There is this one, "100,000 Mile Rest Stop" GC4751 which is a reverse cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=18257 But this is for your car speedometer, not your GPS, I did not find one for GPS, maybe it's been archived. Check the archived locationless to see if you can find it: http://members.aol.com/GeocacherBB/archived.html
  21. Yep, that's what it is, and I agree, the bat pack does scare me personnally, I had a major letdown with Canon camera battery packs that cost a fortune and didn't last very long, that's why my new cam is a Fuji 7000 with normal AA and CF card, everything is standard stuff so it's easy and cheap to get replacements. Hopefully, it will be a pack that can be replaced with normal AA cells with or without an adapter, like some cameras have nowadays. While talking about power packs, has anybody seen this Digicom Xtreme Mini Power Pack: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/se...3&sku=D135-1170 I wonder if this can be adapted to a GPS receiver to boost it's air time?
