  1. With current technology, it's not possible to make a waterproof unit with a touchscreen. Says who? there are plenty of professional products out there that are waterproof and have a touch screen, Nauticomp Displays for boats are some of them, and so are raindrop monitors, and you can make your PDA waterproof and still keep the touch screen active using a flexible membrane like otterboxes, so why could you not build a unit around that technology? Meazura makes waterproof PDAs, cellphones, digital cameras, and speakers, DAP also make windozed pda that are rugged and waterproof. Don't worry, the tech for making a touchscreen that is waterproof is around.
  2. The Garmin Astro is said to have a 3-axis compass, but I haven't seen any reviews of it. It's probably in the dog unit; the receiving unit looks like a 60CSx with an extra antenna. Why would the dog need a 3 axes compass? It's not like he would look at it to make any decisions! True enough. It's the advanced training to teach the dog how to hold his 2D compass level that makes the 3D one worth it. Fair enough, but why need a compass at all, I have a gps and it works just fine without one. It tells me where I am and what direction i am going. So WHY would a dog need a 3 axes compass.

  4. Thanks! This also gives me the chance to announce... GC170NR - Avalanche 2008 3e édition The DATE: 2/23/2008 and yes, there will be a geocoin!
  5. Nothing as of yet, but since the 400 had a compass and barometer, you can expect a lower version (Maybe the 300) without it.
  6. What magazine was it and was there any accompanying info in the story? It was a French hunting mag called "Sentier Chasse-Pêche" and no info, they were simply mentioning the upcomming units along with this one was the Triton and the Onix from Bushnell.
  7. Anybody know any information as to the specs on the upcoming Hybrid GPS units from Garmin? The Colorado series is said to be coming out in in the beginning of next year and already in the hands of many stores for demonstration. Here is a scan of the 300 unit from a hunting magazine. If you know anything more about it it would be great, thanks.
  8. Already done so... See ya all there!
  9. I disagree with Res, All games need rules in order for it to be played otherwise what's the point of playing, might as well just go for a hike and forget about caching then. If I play a game of cards with somebody that they be sitting in front of me or not does not change the fact that I expect them to play by the rules of the game. Imagine a game of cards were there are no rules to follow everybody plays their own way and nobody cares, sorry if I don't think that would last very long before everybody got bored and moved on to do something else.
  10. Geocaching is not rocket science, only two rules need to be followed to play the game 1 - find the cache 2 - sign the log if you have missed either of the above then no, you can't claim the cache. I don't understand why some find this complicated.
  11. Marie Curtis park was a pretty nice place when I was younger. I used to love riding my bike there from Cooksville, and making the day out of it. This has only recently become family unfriendly as far as I'm aware (or at least, it appears I survived my childhood visits). I'm disappointed with the park's decline. I would probably archive this listing if it was mine, or put a not recommended at night attribute on it. I've archived a cache due to the issue above, when we placed the cache you would not have known there would be an issue, it quickly went missing and I replaced it. It went missing soon after again, when I returned I then noted the activity, right across from families having picnics and fishing, I also was a little naive about it back then too. Its a nice little park, thought it would be a good place for the cache, still do, disappointed that due to certain activates, you have to be careful in a few parks around here so I have found out on occasion. I am also disappointed when authorities tell you that you should not be there legally due to illegal activities and you might be mistaken for the other, "why else would you be there if not for?". But by staying away as they suggest, aren't we just caving into the problem? If more people that are not doing something illegal tend to hang around wouldn't that make the illegal entities want to move to another location? (ie: the sewers) Take for instance a very nice park in Montreal, Park Angrigon, it has become less and less favorable to walk there because of illicit thing occurring during both the days and night, and I have actually removed 4 of my caches from there just because of that. But maybe I should not have done that maybe increasing the flow of cachers in the park would have removed the problem? I wonder.
  12. For those who would like to know, the count for all the WWFM around the world is 4337 Event attendee. Way cool!!!
  13. 1 - I greyscaled the original phot and lightened it quite a bit 2 - I use the polygonal lasso in photoshop and just did a quick run around one person 3 - I did a red 2pt stroke around the resulting selection 4 - I use the text tool write a number in it. 5 - NEXT PERSON! Not an easy task, but not too hard ether, it's just a bit tedious...
  14. There were a lot on newbies at my event, people that nobody had seen before, and a lot of questions about who's who came along. So I turned it into a game on the Quebec forum. Who ARE these PEOPLE? So yep Landsharkz, 46, 47 and 48 is Laval K-9 and their huge German Sheppard "Wyatt Earp"
  15. Here is the Montreal Flash Mob Video -- Our 15 minutes of fame... http://tinyurl.com/2669x2 ---
  16. I guess you have all extremes. I have a few logs here from a cache that has been, in a better term, abandoned, and when I asked if they wanted me to ship it back to them they simply said, "naaaa just trash them". ??? I always thought that the log is the most important thing in my caches, I have all my old logs (except for those caches that got muggled) and I cherish them. I never would mind if somebody adds sheets to my logs if it's full I certainly never want to miss a log.
  17. Yeah, I'm noticing that the 2 weeks thing is not really a rule but just a guideline that reviewers may or may not apply since we are now at 81 WWFM some have been approved 12 days in. Sorry guiderchachi, you should have tried getting yours done, it could have been approved.
  18. Thank you for the responses but the closest event to me is 700km away from me. That is why I wanted to host one here. Guiderchachi well here is what you can do to be notified early for next year: Send an email to: iTrax and FoxTail and tell them you would have like to host an WWFM but you are too late but could they please notify you in advance next year.
  19. As CT said above, the deadline for Event caches is two weeks before the event is scheduled to occur. But hey, there will always be next year! There were 20 Flash events in 2006, 74 in 2007, next year? 200 for 2008? Only time will tell. In the meantime, you can come to the closest one near you and join in the fun.
  20. You are right, I had 50 caches at one time and had the hardest of time maintaining them. But these were placed at a time when geocaching was not well known in my area and I was trying to drum up business, but now there are enough cachers out there that just 10 caches per cacher is enough to maintain the game. That's why I started archiving the furthest caches from my home and am now down to 26 active ones (and will probably shorten the list further next year). And you know what? Once I removed the caches, others came in and filled the gap in the area, sometimes in the exact location I used. Now the best part is I got to find them.
  21. For the record, in the reverse of the above, if anybody feels the need to exchange my lockNlock for ammo cans, please be advise that I will not be mad at you.
  22. Somebody got in under the radar and managed to get published after the deadline, so a new KML file has been uploaded to the above folder.
  23. For those interested, you can download my Google Earth KML file with all the WWFM events around the world from here: http://www.box.net/shared/720hkctics
