  1. Mahini, are you talking about traditional texting or something else? this is what i do: http://coord.info/textmarks.aspx
  2. how do you get the text messages? using my little geomate jr puts me at a disadvantage for being a FTF (which i desperately want to call F2F cuz that makes sense in my head!!) since it won't even show up in my little unit. I can attempt it via coords, but, i'd still have to have access to my computer to figure out where to start! I guess Im still a newbie.... not hard-core at all... As a Premium Member you can get Instant Notification emails sent to your computer or cell phone whenever a new cache is published in your area. Any cell phone that can receive email will do. Enter the coords into your GPS and read the cache listing on your cell phone. Have fun! i get the emails. but, yeah, with the geomate jr, i don't have the option to enter the coords in.

  4. i don't use my twitter that often (I look at it to see what others are up to!). I do use the texting feature to log field notes (geomate jr user ftw!), which apparently tweets... which i somehow managed to connect with my facebook.... so, yeah. When I log a dnf, its no longer just in my little log, between me & that tree... oh no! its broadcast to the other 100 people im socially networked with! I get the most comments on those facebook status updates tho! Between confusion, lack of sympathy for the DNF's & other random snarkiness, I get lots of attention!
  5. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...59-b3ca487a7d48 This is one in my hometown that's located next to the golf course. Of course, the golf course is within a park/lake/campground area, so its a high traffic area anyway! I haven't found it- its not in my geomate jr. I do know the area & im interested to see how close it is to the course. As a golfer, I wouldn't like a cache on the course, just because a) it'd be VERY distracting to have people poking around while I was trying to hit. my aim is not that good. well, let me rephrase.. my aim is VERY good, when it comes to the stuff im not aiming at! The trees along the side? that's where my ball lies too!! I refuse to hit if someone is in my normal path of destruction. Since most courses run a pretty tight schedule, it wouldn't really be fair for a geocacher to hold me up (since I'd have to pay the green fees to play), which would hold up the people behind me who also paid money.
  6. woot.com - you never really know when its gonna pop up (1 deal per day, and that deal changes each day!) but, I got mine for $3 for a 2 gig.
  7. I only have 28 caches as well.... so, i've only had 1 item appeal to me- a penguin keychain! (LOVE penguins!!!!)
  8. I've been really pleased with my little geomate jr... Granted, I have no experience with the big guns that most of you use, but, considering the price I paid, it gets me within a few feet. I'll take that!
  9. We followed a wrong path & found a deflated raft along the river! That was interesting! (I can't ever figure out who'd just walk away & leave their stuff behind!)
  10. Actually, that's kinda why I like it... I don't have to plan out where I'm going. Not feeling an area? Just move on to a different one! And now that I've mastered the send-a-text-for-the-info-or-hint business, i like it even more! Im not really a fan of pre-planning... it requires work! Spontaneous works better for those of us lazy/procrastinating types!!
  11. quit teasing us & just release it already!!!
  12. i haven't uhh.... experienced all that there is to caching yet! So far, its just been about pretending like i'm not 100% allergic to nature! I've started taking my grandma with me when we're home visiting family, so its been a nice way to spend time together! She turns 80 next week... and she climbs around in the dangerous stuff so I don't get hurt! (Yes, even I see something wrong with this!) A few weeks ago, we found one at the top of a jungle gym... it was probably about 10-12 feet off the ground. She tells me to get down so I don't get hurt & she'll get it for me!! Anyone else being shown up by their grandma?!?! She's really good at the nano's! Not so good at the gps tho! Last week, she was counting down miles as feet! Once she masters that, so I can drive, she'll be a force! Otherwise, when its just me & the husband, its a nice way to get us out of the house! he's a computer geek/photographer & i'm a retail person, so outside eludes us! Our city has miles of great nature trails & bike paths, so I get to explore the pretty trails while he takes pics! Works out well!!
  13. I've learned I'm not a good judge of distances! My little Junior measures anything under .5 miles in feet, anything over, is well, in miles. I did exactly what BlueDeuce said, just the other night... Junior dropped down to 2000 feet, so I took off, leaving the trailing, only to end up about 2 feet away from the river! Then, the cache ended up being on the other side of the trail all together!
  14. > Me too, I want one to Oooh... a squad is forming!
  15. The other night, I had dinner with a friend (she has 2 younger kids... 9 & 7-ish). She'd noticed my geocaching themed updated on facebook, so she wanted the scoop. I let her play with Junior all the whole car ride home- she's now uber-excited to let her kids tag along with me! She's also already worrying about them fighting over it, & they don't even have one yet! Warren- is there anyway I could get a GeoJr. cheerleader outfit? Pompoms could be optional....
  16. i got all excited at the title... google maps mobile bug?! what a cute name! i bet i want it.... oh...wait....
  17. i drive with my junior on! And then, I point as we drive past! "there's one in those bushes over there". Husband never slows down! (I think he's missing the point!!!!!)
  18. My first cache was a micro... but I basically followed someone else around! She pointed at a fence post & said "that would be a good spot" & sure enough, there it was! (After circling a tree 2 or 3 times!) Now that we know what to look for with the itty-bittys, I wanna go back & try a few that we didn't find the first time!
  19. Unfortunately no... We're about midway, so next summer! My mom was eligible a few months ago, so, I tried REALLY REALLY hard to get her to take my phone so I could get something new... She didn't fall for it!
  20. w00t! the palm is found! now, to figure out what to do with it!
  21. I made my first trade last night! I haven't worried about it up until now, but last night, there was a penguin keychain! I collect penguins!!! I left my husband sitting there with the cache & I ran back to the car to find *something* to trade! I left a band-aid keeper (complete with bandaids!). I also had a couple of really cool colored golf balls from a mini golf place but, I've been paying attention & it seems you guys don't like golf balls! (i'm a golfer, so if I come across anyway, I pinky swear to trade them out!)
  22. and you'll let us know the minute they go on sale?
  23. *phew!* I got it fixed... not sure what happened there, but I hope it doesn't happen again! Anyway... My bro & I went out yesterday. He uses his iphone. There was one in particular I was after, but, of course, I didn't know much about it. He wanted to know specific coords. on the cache. So, I told him to use his fancy schmancy phone & look it up. According to him, the whole point is to find out the coords for a cache. (I thought the point was to find the ccache!). Anyway, we couldnt go after the one I was eyeing for a variety of reasons, so, we detoured to another area. I knew there was a cache there, from searching on here.... he knew there was a cache there from hanging out & 'seeing people head into the woods'. He's making fun of my little junior every step of the way, til he starts heading the wrong way! all in all, i've decided im not trading my junior for an iphone!! (& I did eventually get to go back to the cache I wanted... I took my nearly 80-year old grandma with me, we hiked straight up a hill of nothing but mud & tree roots & she found the cache without even knowing what she was doing!! I'll take her over the iphone too!!!!)
