    TB hotel

That's what I thought and have been told over and over. Just checking as I know rules do change from time to time. Like the rule of no more "sprinkler" hides. I have done these before with no problem but recently had one all set up ready to go and the reviewer nix it. No more hides of this type are being allowed because of the damage to the real thing when some not to careful cachers go searching. Again another topic for another board.

    TB hotel

Curious was reading through some logs for some caches I plan on looking for this coming weekend when I came across a CO's log for their TB hotel. "This is a TRAVEL BUG HOTEL--If a bug is taken one is to be put back in it's place. We may have to change it to a regular cache as the bugs are taken and no one seems to want to leave any in there place. What I read in the geocaching rules was a HOTEL is the one place you TAKE ONE you are suppose to LEAVE ONE." I've been to many hotels that have had NO TBs. In fact I can count on one hand the number of hotels that had even 1 TB in it when I visited. I think nothing of it as I've been told that there is really isn't a rule to take a TB you have to leave a TB, even if a CO will have it on the cache page. It's not that I don't want to leave a TB I make every effort to do so, I try to have at least one with me when I cache, but it seems that only time I find TB's these days are at events, but that's another problem for another day. My interest is, is this true? Does one have to leave a TB when one is taken from a bug hotel? I looked around to find a rule that said yes or no one way or the other with no luck. Are there special rules for Hotels? Just curious.
  3. The Burma road definitely does not need a high clearance vehicle, unless things have changed dramatically in the past couple years. I drove that road in my Pontiac G6. It was slow, dusty and practically nothing but washboard, but clearance was not an issue. We did the Burma Road on the Belfair cache machine, so I to know the road, but I don't know Ruby Grade Road. I was looking for a comparison if someone has happened to have driven both. I was also looking for some input on vehicle choice for the Ruby Grade road, though I did find some information on a Washington Goast town website that calls it a 2WD medium clearance road, so I'm thinking the 2WD Dakota should be okay, but not sure if the minivan would be high enough. But I'd still like all the input I can get. Thanks again, SirKarp ~ Rob
  4. About the Loop Loop Road and Ruby Grade... I was hoping to get some input from someone that has previously driven the road. We would really like to do that road and get the caches out there but we don't really want to drive the big 4X4 Ram pickup. So can you compare it to Burma Road from the Belfair cache machine, if you have driven both? And is a high clearance 4X4 really necessary for loop loop and ruby grade? We are both well seasoned drivers that know how to drive on less than ideal roads. Do you think we could we get away with the minivan, or smaller Dakota pickup? both are higher than a car, and higher than a Subaru, but neither are 4X4. It is summer so I wouldn't think mud would be an issue? Thanks for any input, SirKarp ~ Rob
  5. Thanks for all the reply's folks. I might believe that it was just someone being very slow to log... But this has happened over a period of a few months, if it is one person they are revisiting to take the TBs. I don't know if I'll ever know for sure what has happened. Guess we'll see. SirKarp ~ Rob
  6. I'm having a weird thing going on with one of my caches in Seattle. The last 4 travel bugs placed into the cache have disappeared within a day or two of being placed into the cache. The cache container is locked with a combo lock. One would think this would eliminate muggles but there are a couple of signatures on the log in the cache that are not on the online log. Also when I look up those names they come back as not a registered user. So I'm mostly posting this to see if anyone else has had an experience like this, or for that matter any other thoughts. Thanks, SirKarp ~ Rob
  7. We are in the made our hotel reservations over a month ago group. I get pretty excited about cache machines so I like to have that reservation in early. We've chosen the Holiday Inn Express, I'm a super duper priority club member with a bus load of points so it brings the price down a lot. And can't wait!!!!!!!
  8. Or do what my dad did - tow a Tracker behind the rig. He got into some of the most interesting country that way... I expect that this CM will have more muddy washboard pock-marked dirt roads than any other CM we've done before. The route should be passable for a passenger car, but I wouldn't recommend it for trailers, motorhomes, or articulated buses. Sweet! No silly you sleep in the Motorhome and go caching in the minivan! LOL, If we "Take the motorhome" we would tow the minivan, I could just see me racing down the road after some cache in motorhome, rearranging everything in the back, pots and pans flying. We still haven't made a decision for 100% if we are sleeping in the Motorhome or the Motel, but either way we will go caching in minivan. SirKarp
  9. Honestly I was thinking the same question. The local options don't sound too good, so I am currently thinking about Bremerton. that is probably good thinking We are starting to think about staying in Port Orchard or Bremerton, there are a couple "name brand" hotels there, I was hoping someone would have previous experience with the local Belfair Motel, the web reviews are a little iffy for them. We might still decide to camp in the Motorhome but having a good hotel room after a long day of activities sounds nice, less to worry about, deal with ect. SirKarp
  10. We are going to be coming over from the other side of the sound, any recommendations on places to stay in the area or where are other people staying? We were thinking of camping as there don't look to be many motels in the area. Thanks, SirKarp
  11. It'll be one year of caching for us next month and for all that time we have avoided TBs of all types because we didn't want the responsibility of others hopes and dreams. Finally last month we made the choice to pick up a lonely TB and move it on. Since then we've moved 3 more, not a one has really gone anywhere. All have been picked up but only one so far has been placed back into a cache that has had just a few visits since being placed. Two appear to have been retrieved by cachers who cache infrequently and the last one was picked up almost 2 weeks ago and we're hoping gets placed soon. Now our hopes and dreams are riding on these TBs as well, we want to see where and who they meet. But with such a poor success rate in helping these TBs get on with their missions we are unsure if we want to move anymore. Why is it if one only caches a few times a year do they bother to pick up someone's TB. Commonsense says all they are doing is impeding the TB progress and making it easy for it to go MIA.
