  1. Check with your council office, ours has 10 units that they will "lend" out to scouts.
  2. Thanks for all the information. I will try out my new knowledge this afternoon and see if it works. BTW, the cache was fould by 2 people yeaterday and its a micro so the "rush" to find it is gone...
  3. yes I tried that but it kept trying to calculate the route to the cache and not just point to the darn thing and let me go stomping off to find the cache.
  4. I have a 60CSx and it is set to route on the road after a trip we took last week. It worked great as it told all the turns and everything. Well today I check out the GC website and there is a new cache in my area and I went out at lunch for a FTF only to have the darn unit put me in the middle of the road! I understand that the cache was close due to the clue but it could not find the area near the site. I looked at all the menus and tried to turn off the routing, and stuff but was not successful. Next I tried a cache that was about 200 yrds by the crow fly away but the darn unit had me going back to the road, travel .2 miles, turn right, travel .2 miles again then on to the cache. i know that i have turned something on that I want to turn off but I can find it...any help would be great! Joe
  5. I will be going to PCB next week and was wondering if there are any good caches to get while down there. I an not in it for the numbers so a micro cache hidden just to sign a log does not interest me. If you know of any must visit caches please let me know!
  6. Check with your council, ours has about 10 yellow units that they will loan out for scouts.
  7. can you send me a pic or two i am interested in saving some trees!
  8. I work for a water department and I can tell you that if I see anyone other than employees messing around with valves and valve boxes it is not gonna be a good day for that person. With all of the homeland security stuff a water system is NOT a thing you want to mess with. Last time we had some one "mess" with a valve it cost thte guy about $1000 in fines and fees. I know that cachers would not be opening or closing the valve but that is a risk I would not take. Also, as soon as the field crew opened the lid and saw the container, marked or not, they would throw it away and not even think twice. Not cool...
  9. If you are still in the mind set that you want an external antenna, go to Trimble's website and they have baseball caps with pockets built into them for this very thing.
  10. Tazzman, I live in Moreland just south of your area and I too have cubscouts. I have been planning to take a group to Cocran Mill and do some hiking and caching in there. Have you been there before? Shooter North of Fairburn just south of 6 flags, google Cochran Mill and you will see or click here http://www.cochranmillnaturecenter.org/

  12. I have to chime in here, we use the 60CSx at work locating manholes. The field guy had "lost" a manhole and ask me if I could find it for them. I have collected the locations for all the manholes in our system and they knew the number of the one in question. I pullled up that waypoint, clicked GOTO and gave it to the guy. "What so I do with THIS?" Follow the arrow and tell me if you find it...well 2 hours later I got a phone call. When they were looking where they thought the manhole was it was telling them to go another 75'. I told them to just FOLLOW the arrow, after a few minutes of discussion they tool the path of the gps. I got another call. When the gps said stop they were on a burn pile with a few tires and junk all around, including a manhole! After that the guys were hooked on the accuracy of the units and they have quickly gained a new respect of what I do!
  13. After MUCH searching I cannot find a good Trimble forum to ask a question so I am turning to the best and brightest...does anyone in here use Trimble and Pathfinder Products? Thanks
  14. That is true and I will do that! I saw your picture on the Podcachers website...way cool!
  15. I have been listening to the Podcacher podcast and they were talking about a Geocaching Flash Mob event. you can you tube "flash mob" to see what and event is like. Well my question is, is there anyone in the West GA area aka Coweta County that might like to put on a flash mob event in downtown Newnan... HCAShooter
