  1. So I just passed my technician's license test tonight! I'm interested in a handheld for hiking and backpacking and I was wondering if I could get some advice. I'll be trying to hit repeaters in the Sierras and in Southern California. I have been looking at the Yaesu VX-6R. It has decent features and is within my price range. I had someone recommend to me a new antenna rather than using the rubber duck antenna in the back country. My friend recommended a Smiley Super Stick II 5/8 wave telescoping whip. Could someone explain the benefits of this antenna over the original. I appreciate the help.

  2. Hello, so I am admittedly new to GPS. I am attempting to transfer tracks from my unit to mapsource. I open mapsource with the device connected and mapsource finds the device fine. However, when I attempt to transfer tracks it states that there are no tracks on the device. I went back to the device and I can pull them up on the device, so I can't figure out why it can't find them. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  3. I was hiking San Jacinto Peak in Southern California and I took my new Oregon 400T along. It was performing well when I noticed the unit had powered off. I turned it on and the trip odometer had jumped from 8 miles total to 333 miles. The hike round trip was 15 miles. Any ideas what may have caused this? I recorded the hike with tracks and it appears to have recorded the hike correctly. I can't figure out what happened to the trip odometer though. After looking, it appears the max speed and moving average speed changed as well.
