  1. It's about 4 miles in on a decent road. I figure round trip of 2.5 to 3.5 hours without working up a big sweat.
  2. Well we're coming up on the 7th. How many are doing the East Cuesta ridge this saturday? And what mode of transport, shoes or bikes? I up for either.
  3. Yeah, you qualify. Just send in your $50 initiation fee and you're in!
  4. Phalen lake park is closest place to North St Paul I know about. I remember Phalen lake. I remember when it was failin' lake because it had sprung a leak and was draining. I remember they tried a number of things to plug the leak but I don't know what was the ultimate fix. Are these just quick walk and grabs or hikes? Does anyone bookmark their favorite caches for public viewing? Seeing there is no rating system on Geocaching.com I figure if more of us would bookmark our favorites it would be easier to locate the most liked caches.
  5. It's not a difficult hike. I did it on a mountain bike and found it to be fairly good riding, gravel road all the way. Looks like we've got a good group to do Lowe Mountain if we can find a day to do it.
  6. Seeing both Lowe Mountain caches are ours, we would be glad to babysit another up there. And when you plan to do your hike, let me know, maybe I'll hike it with you.
  7. My wife and I are going to be vacationing in the North St. Paul, Marine area in mid- June and would like suggestions for some of your favorite caches. We tend to like regular caches and avoid micros. We like caches that lead us to beautiful areas, trails, geological or historical spots. Look over your found cache lists and then creat a public bookmark list of your favorites. Then email us and share your favorites with us. I like puzzle and mystery caches also. We would really appreciate your input.
  8. Looks interesting. How much do these things cost? Maybe you could put a poison ivy tri-leaf on a later series coin.
  9. If you want a lovely area, lots of caches, small cities and fun things to do you can't beat the San Luis Obispo, CA area. Mountains, ocean, beaches, access to Big Sur, Hearst Castle, lakes, rivers and great people are here awaiting you for a fun vacation.
  10. Today Geocats came into the office that I work at to fix the copiers and printers....it seems the geocaches that I've been hiding in the copiers and printers is making them not work right I've been working so hard lately. My boss has been a slave driver and didn't even let me off for my birthday last Monday. I wanted to do a hike of some sort but nooooo, I had to work. (That's the trouble with working for yourself, you have a a------ for a boss.) So today, Saturday, I took the time to hike Pine Mountain. I did a leisurely 2 hour walk doing some exploring of trails I have passed by before and getting reaquainted with my mountain. (I do live on it's lower slope.) It was wonderful. The day was glorious and the views grand. Maybe I'll put another cache on it. It has plenty of room for more caches. We're going to be camping at a music get together near Cerro Alto campgrounds March 9-11. Anyone up for a hike up to Hikerbees and Vista Cerro Alto that Saturday or Sunday?
  11. Gosh, I haven't visited this forum in a lonnnnng time. Sorry. My boss keeps me really busy. (That's the problem of being self employed.) So, what is being planned for Jan. 6th? A series of Big Sur caches? I might be interested in that.
  12. It WAS fun and I like climbing Pine Mountain. It is a lovely area with lots of fine trails. We're going camping next weekend at San Simeon State Park and will doubtless do a bit of geocaching in the area. Does anyone have any favorites in that area and north into Big Sur?
  13. For anyone who would like to solve an armchair mystery cache* and see if this makes sense to you, please email me and I will send you the cache description, clues etc. Of course you won't be able to log it as found but if you send me the cache coordinates I will tell you if you got it right plus I will log your name in on a cache note as helping me to check it out. email me at alan-a@nospampacbell.net (delete the nospam in the address) *Armchair mystery cache = cache that you can solve from home to arrive at the coordinates of the real cache.
  14. Just a suggestion to other POC (and other readers). The bookmark list feature is useful in that you can bookmark your favorite caches and make them public so that when a person views one of the caches that is in your favorites list they can see that it is a favorite and they can click on the link and see your other favorites. This is a good way to help other cachers to find the best caches in the area if they are visitors short time or just your fellow cachers wanting to visit the better caches first. I would like to encourage you to go over the list of all your found caches in your profile and bookmark the ones that you think are terrific. (Don't be shy, list some of your own if you think they are good ones.)
  15. I was unable to reserve an area, but have rented a banquet table for our potluck goodies. We can set it up wherever the shade is and hang out in the creek too. There is a Compass Health company picnic there starting at 11:30 and I've spoken with the coordinator, Liz. They're completely willing to share the space with our group. Do we need another table? We have a foldup picnic table we could bring.
  16. Hi, Rikki and I went to a movie this weekend that we highly recommend for all to see. Not only is it very interesting and entertaining but very educational It details the changes happening to our earth and how it will affect us and our children, grandchildren and beyond. This movie is a must see for all who care about our earth and the animals and plants that share it with us. An Inconvenient Truth
  17. Mea culpa. Whew! Finally got an event page in for approval for 11 am on the 22nd! What a hectic summer for us so far. I've requested a spot at Cuesta Park, but might not get it. We'll see - I'll post more when City Rec replies. We will be there. Rikki may have two functions going and be driving between them but I plan to be there and will bring something but I'll wait to see what items may be needed and fill in with whatever is required.
  18. Rikki and I are up for this. Either date works for us. Cuesta park is good. I won't be here on the 15th, so I vote for the 22nd. How about it Laurie, the 22nd? Are we on for it? BTW, what's the progress on OLLI cache? Was that gal going to list it?
  19. Go to A SLO Up Alongside the 101 cache and look for my bookmark list of some of our favorite caches.
  20. Rikki and I are up for this. Either date works for us. Cuesta park is good.
  21. A July meet & greet sounds good to us. Have been busy camping the last three weekends and have not had much time to geocache or do forums but now things are getting a bit less crazy.
  22. Well, back from Tallahassee and a nice visit with my daughter and four grandkids. Had a good time and did some geocaching most days. My daughter and her kids really enjoyed geocaching and before I returned I helped them place their first cache. Tallahassee has about half the density of caches that we have in SLO county but way more parks and places to hide them. Tallahassee has the most parks of almost any city I have ever seen! But 3/4 of their caches are micros! Even when there is plenty of hiding area for a full size cache??? I don't understand. I had to go through many caches in my PDA to find the regular caches because the kids were disappointed in micros. (I'm not a big fan of them either.) When I have more time I will have to tell you about a few of the more fun ones we found.
  23. All this confirms my heartfelt belief, that we are ALL crazy in some ways. It's just that most of us are crazy in socially acceptable ways and don't go shooting up people or walking down main street in our birthday suit. But Jim, you are almost certifiable.
  24. Good, that will be a help. Jim, send me your email address, I seem to have lost it.
  25. Anyone wishing to participate in the OLLI (Osher Lifetime Learning Institute) seminar to teach geocaching to a group of avid muggles please email me so we can communicate faster. There is a deadline on submitting the course outline soon. Alan-a@pacbell.net Also include your phone number, full name and a brief bio (like what you list on geocaching.com maybe). Unless you have a better site to suggest, I am going with the Irish Hills area off Madonna road in SLO. There are 3 caches on the trail and we can easily continue on up the trail to create a new cache for this course. OLLI, OLLI OVER ? So far we have Rikki, Oreo Pony, Pointsaljim and myself. We will also need to see if we can borrow a couple GPSrs as I think we'll need more than 3.
