  1. I looked, how does one disable the messaging? Thx
  2. Aha, great to know this. I've been carrying a handheld gps for this.
  3. I've been hunting some caches, most in particular of late that are cemeteries. The initial coordinates will take the hunter to a spot within the cemetery and from there use information found to decode the final cache location. Does the iPhone app allow the entry of the coordinates? Is there plans for this? Am I missing it within the app, I thought I looked it over. A bit better search on my part found the answer http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=310337 Thanks, Kurt
  4. I have had some issues with this using both MSIE and Firefox of late. I have not been logged in long enough each time to figure out the root cause. I'm too busy running out the door to find the next cache.
  5. Interesting thread. My wife and I have just begun the sport and we are amazed at the 'swag' left. I've found bent bottle caps, golf balls with smiles on them (slided through the skin), rocks, faded pogos and so on. So far we've not taken anything but have left somethings depending upon the cache such as keychains etc. I've also found a lot of caches that aren't updated when a TB is removed but that's another story for another time.
  6. LOL, yeah i saw it double posted. That's like arguing with myself and losing.
  7. Congrats to you and the benefactor. I really liked reading your post this morning over coffee. We have been bitten hard by the geocaching bug here ... I liked your 'pay it forward' also. Kurt and Jan Combining Ham Radio and Geocaching
  8. We are new to the sport, and log each and every try, be it DNF or not. For us, it's not a competition against anyone else but ourselves. We love to discover the cache, even if it's two trips or more to find it. When we do finally find one that is elusive to us, we usually feel that it's cool how they hid the cache. The logs are my gauge on how we are doing and how we can improve our techniques. Kurt and Jan Combining Ham Radio and Geocaching
  9. We also are farily new to the sport. We've been stumped on a few, found some others were stumped on... all in all it's fun and a challenge. I wold agree to see if you can find someone to go with to get you 'kick started'. Best of luck. Kurt and Jan Combining Ham Radio and Geocaching
  10. I tried to search and found nothing on this topic. Not sure if this is the spot for this question.. On the geocaching.com site, when i do an advanced search i check the box to exclude my items and found items from the list. This isn't working and I get the items I've found. Is this function not working? Thanks, Kurt and Jan Two HAMsters -- Combining Ham Radio and Geocaching.
  11. We are just starting with this hobby. We are Kurt and Jan and form the team "Two HAMsters". We are both Ham radio enthusiasts, hence the HAMsters moniker. We are using this hobby to not only explore our area, but to get to know other areas when we travel in our RV. We will use this for fun as well as great excercise hiking about. Because of our work schedules we typically get to go out after work in the evening and look for one, maybe two. Cheers, Kurt and Jan
