  1. Murray; Are there any "serious" road running events in your neighbourhood? The course will most likely be measured quite accurately. If you know the exact location of the start and finish line for say a 10K run, biking through the course would give you an /indication/ of computer and GPS accuracy. As Dan points out, the straighter the course the better.
  2. I know of fellow sea kayakers who have used the Garmin GPSMAP 60 Series Marine Mount (around 25-30 USD). This does involve drilling holes in your deck. Personally I fear that this exposed position will eventually get it knocked off, either during rescues or by my paddle when doing a quick low brace to maintain balance. My solution is putting the 60CS in an Aquapac, securing the Aquapac to the deck shock cords by its lanyard, and keep the unit in its bag on the spraydeck in front of me. Sometimes I use a mesh deck bag and put the unit inside. If I need a GPS just for the tracklog and for measuring speed I use a Garmin Forerunner training GPS that I wrap around the shock cords by the velcro wrist strap. Happy kayaking!
  3. Yup, an Aquapac is all you need. Loop the lanyard around one of the shock cords.

  5. GPS units and moisture problems were discussed by canoers/kayakers at the paddling.net forum this summer, and quite a few were not happy with their eTrex units in this respect. Erling.
  6. Hej Anders! In the left side window, I can turn previous tracks on/off under the menu option "Places". Hälsningar, Erling.
  7. I am very happy with the Gilsson antenna. I always hook it up when I use my 60CS in the car, and I also find it useful in the field from time to time (forests etc.). Just be aware that this is an active, amplifying antenna that draws energy from the GPS. This does not matter when the GPS gets power from the car's cigarette lighter, but may be worth noting when used hand held. Gilsson states that power consumption is around 12 mA. My uneducated guess is that this will shorten battery life with up to 10 pct - depending on battery type and other factors. I'd be happy if someone can offer more precise calculations.
  8. Useful: Car kit (came with City Select Europe) Gilson external antenna Cartom case Couldn't use: Screen protection sheets (made the map look fuzzy)
