  1. I'm still pretty new to this, but I keep a toolbox in my truck with: GPS (Garmin Vista) Extra Batteries A little book for logging my finds Stuff to put in caches (toy cars, etc.) pen plastic bags (ziploc) Benadryl and some anti-itch cream (I'm REALLY alergic to fire ants) I grab what I think I'll need before I go. In the truck I've also got a first-aid kit, flashlights, duct-tape, tools. I've taken to printing five or six potential cache-visits that I put in one of those clipboards with the paper-compartment when you open it. Then when I go to one, I put it on the clipboard. Probably not the best way to do things (my PDA got stolen), but it does work very nicely. I hate wasting that paper, but I make sure to use both sides. I haven't gone on any caches that are more than a mile walk, so I've certainly still got some learning to do as well.
  2. I haven't used it, but I just thought I'd chime in and say it's too bad (and it kind of surprises me) that it sucks so much -- I have two Cobra hand-held radios and they work fantastically. Very nice, solid-construction and so on. I looked at the Cobra when I was looking into buying a GPS, but heeded all the ominous reviews. Definitely listen to the reviews you read on the internet though -- you'll never go wrong with all this good advice (both here and at places like epinions)
  3. I'm brand new to geocaching, but I actually used my Gerber for one today! The lid was stuck on a cache, so I used the pliers and it opened easily. I'm a syadmin/network/pc technician, and I've had the Gerber 400 for about two months and I use it EVERY DAY. Probably one of the two or three most useful tools I have. I looked at both the leatherman and the Gerber and bought the Gerber because it looked easier to operate with one hand, and it was on sale with a free pair of scissors. Takes a few minutes to get the hang of the opening-mechanism, but once you've mastered it, you can have it open to any tool in less than five seconds. I'm sure the Leatherman is great too -- I'll definitely have a look at one if I ever need to replace the Gerber.
