  1. hey! I just wanted to say thank you, brainsnat for your thoughtful and considerate posts! I really appreciate the way you seem to be considerate of others and helpful with your responses to peoples' questions! Go! Go! Go!
  2. I think it's admirable that you care enough to ask the question. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about doing it the right way!!! There are guidlines about things to not put in a cache...like food items or anything that smells like food, gum, mints, incence, scented candles and the like will smell good to animals and they will tear the cache apart to get to it! Also, many people cache with their kids, and do not appreciate sharp items like knives placed in there. They can be a problem. Just use your common sence..like someone else said above, there are all kinds of people caching, and you never know what someone will like or dislike...if they don't like it, they don't have to trade for it! It's that simple. So don't sweat it and have a good time! Cache on!
  3. I only have 3 caches out there, but my impression is it is totally up to the owner if they want to do a FTF prize and whether or not they want to say there's one on the cache page or even if they want to say what it is. Some cachers do and some don't. Sometimes they just have one fairly nice trade item they think will go fast, sometimes they don't put anything extra special in it. I usually put in a FTF prize, and then say what it is on the cache page. My thinking is this: if it's a nice prize, maybe it will induce someone to jump on it fast! I hope that this helps and you could figure out what I mean with all this rambling! hehehe
  4. My hubby got a Garmin 12XL as a 25 year service award from work. We had used it on trips to track our speed and to see how far we'd traveled and how far to destination, etc. But then my son saw a program on the travel channel about geocaching and logged on to gc.com. That was back in 2002. I used to ride along with him when he went caching, because I didn't think he should be trapsing around in the forest all alone...it's not wilderness here, but, hey, who knows when you'll run into a bear or take a fall? I remember thinking back then that it was kinda' lame...chase around in the woods and maybe not even find it, but when you do, all it's got is some dumb trinkets...nothing very important or cool. But then last year he talked me into going caching for something to do on my Birthday, and viola! I'm now a cacher. I'm up to about 30 caches now, and I've hidden 3 and I have hosted a local club M&G and am co-hosting 2 campout/M&G's later this summer. The friends I've made thru our local club are great! We have a good time caching and camping and visiting together. Cache on!!!
  5. Oh, the buff idea is great...especially if it has a signal the frog pattern on it!! and the ones with the little brim would be even better. As for the bracelets, if they could be impregnated with bug repellant, I'd buy one.
  6. Hiding caches is one of the best and most fun parts of caching. I was fortunate enough to be taught how to cache by my son, who was experienced and had placed many caches before I joined the game. I had just 4 or 5 finds when I placed my first cache, and it has been there for over a year now, with lots of cachers saying they liked it. But then, my son helped me place the cache, so I had good help. I think there should be no changes to the rules, but that newbies should seek the help of an experienced cacher before hiding their first few caches, until they get some experience of their own. Many cachers would be happy to help newbies, as we are. Cache on!
  7. If that doesn't work, take some really big line-backer types withyou and grab the guy, and while the line backers are holding him down, grab all those little TB guys and then book for the hills! Be sure the line backers scare the bejeebers out of him and warn him that his TB stealing behavior is unacceptable in our lovely geocaching world! Oh, and tell him to "have a nice day"!
  8. That's a very good point there. My last camping trip, I had 6 bugs that were going with me, only one was mine. I created little tear-off tags with a similar message as this. "Thanks for taking this bug. I placed this bug while camping and will not have access to a computer until (date). Please do not log this bug until after (date) so I may be able to properly log the bugs after I get home. Thank you." Two of the bugs needed that tag as they were picked up within hours of me placing them in a cache. Neither cacher entered them until after I had entered them on the travel bug page. Something that worked! I really like your idea of the tear off tag! More cachers should adopt this idea. I believe it would take a lot of confusion out of the TB game! good for you, Webfoot!!!!
  9. I have a 2004 MIGO coin not a seasonal one...# 550 in the sleeve not registered if anyone is interested. I'm not really interested in trading...but if someone wants to buy it, I'll sell for $5. (I paid more than that for it) + $1 shipping. email me if you are interested.
  10. I've seen just one of those yellow jeeps...they are so cute that people keep them, I guess. The white ones are bigger, you say? Well that might help them along the way. The problem is, this sport has been getting more and more people that tend to do that sort of thing...it's not just jeep TB's any cute one has potential to go AWOL So you can beat the topic to death, but as long as there are those who don't care about the next guy's enjoyment of the sport, it'll be this way...sorry but that's the way of the world!
  11. Thanks so much, briansnat, for the info. I really appreciate it, as I was serious about the question, and got really frustrated with the comidenes who thought they would make fun of me for asking with those silly answeres! This is the main reason I don't usually go to the forums, as there is no respect! Thanks again! CrafterCat
  12. I was chatting in the #geochaching room, and asked who started this whole thing. (I guess my love of history always points me in this direction.) They suggested I post the question to the forums, so here I am! Where did it start (where is the first cache?), and who got the idea to hide a tupperware container full of goodies in the woods and tell people to go hunt for it? Thanks, CrafterCat
