  1. I need to find out how to stop Groundspeak from automatically billing my account to PayPal. HELP!!!!!! Thanks Karen
  2. I am pretty sure it isn't the MAKING of the fake bomb as much as calling and saying....... I placed a bomb at such and so place. I would equate that to yelling FIRE in a mall or theater where there is a crowd, only to be tracked down and procecuted when there is nothing burning, but 5 people been trampled in the stampede to get out. I have always liked the clear plastic tupperware boxes with camo tape. But then again one of mine got melted in a burn off and the other was muggled after the ff. Have fun. Karen
  3. I play spades on www.zone.com and I am a member of the Tiger Spading Family. I was reading on the posting board one spring evening about what everyone was doing. One of the members nick is Tiger_Hiker, and he said he would be spending very little time online and be geocaching much of the summer since it was nice weather. Geocaching???? so I had to Google it. Took me all of a week go get a GPS and we cached all summer long and a few winter caches too. Then I had to have surgery last June and since then I have had 5. I am finally getting better and wanting to cache. Can't wait. Karen
  4. That makes me to have a walking stick..that is what they are for, turning over stuff INCLUDING caches BEFORE I stick my hand in there hahahahaha. Karen (who don't like snakes, spiders, or bugs)
  5. I don't consider myself experienced yet, but I am learning to drive around and see if there is a trail-head-parking lot-other way into the cache site. After several tries and LOTS of bushwacking, it will sink in dearie. Then you will find something else you messed up. Believe me. Karen
  6. Our very very first cache was a virtual in Tulsa called The Center Of The Universe. It was sooo cool. Our first Traditional Cache was in Veteran's Park in Tulsa. We traded for a "Mission Patch" from Nasa. We were so very impressed. Karen
  7. I got permission in Oklahoma by asking the Park Manager. Lake Eufaula State Park's Manager, Sue Hughart, was thrilled to have ANOTHER geocache. Of course, what I forgot to ask was... do you burn off in the spring/late winter? Yes they do and burned off my tupperware box. Live and Learn, I will place another soon. BUT, Oklahoma Corp of Engineers, said NO WAY when I asked about placing a cache in Belle Starr Park which is closer to the Lake and part of their domain. They think it is a digging thing too and I cannot get an appointment with the man who I need permission from to explain it. Depends on the department I think. Karen
  8. I found walking sticks at the top of the Gondola at Lake Tahoe, NV. Paid all of $16 and got a medallion for $2 bucks. They have a leather loop and a piece of wood telling what kind of wood it is. Ours is Sassafrass and they also came with a wooden whistle. I was impressed. Karen
  9. Mark (N5PNE) and I (Okpondlady) kinda look like the Beef Trust. He is... about a comfortable 6X and I am a 3X.. I am tickled to finally find a man that is comfortable with himself enough to not hassle ME about my weight. He is closer to 400 than 300 and I am about 280.
  10. My GPS is used to hunt Boxes in the Woods... I don't know what you use yours for. Dale I am with you. Karen
  11. I am comming to visit some relatives in Reno and probably will have some time on my hands between the 3rd and the 7th. Anyone wanna cache? I am not up to a power cache trip but 4 or 5 in a day would be really cool. Thanks, Karen
  12. When the cop shows up and asks "What are you doing?" is the perfect opportunity for a new recruitment. Has happened to me 2 times. Both times I told them and they were ok with it but kept kinda eyeing us. hahahahaha Keep on Hunting!!!! Karen
  13. I love it. GO MOM AND DAD!!!!!!! I wish my mom would get enough computer literacy to download her email. I am not being sarcastic. She bought a computer but she is afraid my little sister will become addicted (like I am OMG!!!!) I have to go help her almost weekly just to keep it running, in her opinion. Have fun!!!!!!!!! Karen aka okpondlady/N5PNE
  14. My father's father served in Africa in WWII. My mother's father served in France in WWII. My father was in the 45th Division in Korea in 1951-52 He was wounded in Chorwon Valley April 1952 taking Pork Chop Hill. He was a medic at the time and came home 100% disabled because the VA said 100% is the most you can be. Technically he should have been 300-400%. He lost most use in both arms and right leg. Had massive injuries to his skull. Spent 2 years in Ft. Sam Houston Hospital recovering. When his mother went to visit she asked the doctor if he would ever be able to function at all normally. The doctor said, I have no idea, that is up to Sgt. Kite. At 23 he came home to the farm and went on with life. He was a farmer, married 2 times, had 2 kids. He lived 52 years longer than he probably should have. Without those wounds he probably would have lived to be closer to 90. Last September, the injuries finally got him and he had the last stroke that finally killed him. He had had several others before that in the last 5 years. He was in the nursing home for 3 years before his passing. In the time he was I had to repeatedly argue his case with the VA who couldn't understand why he needed nursing home care all the sudden after living 49 years in society. Finally I said to them, He has lived on his own when truely he should have had a full time nurse or at least nursing care. After that they left us alone about it. After every stroke he came back and taught himself to eat again and talk again. That was usually the only obvious effects of his strokes. The last one was massive and he never regained conciousness. At the time the VA put the metal plates in his head to rebuild his skull that had been damaged, there was no better alternative. Those plates kept him from being able to have an MRI or CAT scan to see what was happening after the stroke. Can you tell I miss him? I joined the Oklahoma Air National Guard in 1988. I was a Dental Assistant. When Desert Shield started, I took a volunteer tour to Tampa, Fla. I was there when we bombed Bagdad. Watched it on CNN like everyone else in the dorm. Shortly thereafter my unit was activated for Desert Storm and I was pulled home to Tulsa to go with them. I served my active duty time at Tinker AFB. Just my own personal note here. I joined the ANG to go New and Interesting Places. Tinker AFB was NOT on my list. I was born there. I went with my mom and dad there every darn month to the commissary. I did it and didn't complain. What was there to complain about? I was working in air conditioned buildings, on our soil, living in a hotel every night, getting good food..... geez. Besides that, I would have never shamed my dad in front of this little town we live in by being on TV protesting or something like that, no matter how much I didn't like it. After 6 months I came home to Tulsa, got married, had a baby and decided military life wasn't for me. Been out since 94. Worst decision of my life, but you can't go backward. Have I rambled enough?
  15. Before I became a PM, I was pretty clueless about what I got as a PM. Basically I still am. I don't see that I have anything different as far as access is concerned as before I joined except I get pocket queries. So far I really don't grip how to use them effectivly so I would vote a toutorail would be great. Maybe something along the lines of... when/if you join you will receive blah, blah, blah. THEN maybe you could tell me how to use the features in English so I can do it. I don't want to sound negative but I am still pretty darn lost as far as those queries are concerned. I guess I havn't done enough to figure out how they are useful when the area I live in is pretty quiet as far as cache placement. I also like the idea of items in GC that only PM's can purchase or get a discount for at certian times of the month/year. Being able to take Debit/credit cards would probably be a + also. It took me forever to figure out PayPal enough to just PAY for the membership. Thanks for asking and hope it works well. Okpondlady
  16. I just joined as a PM and signed up for Pocket Querys. I got one yesterday and downloaded it from my email. Unzipped it and now I can't figure out what program my computer needs to use to read it. I am using XP. Thanks you all, Karen
  17. I bought some new glasses with blue frames and rhinestones on the top that have magnetic sunglasses attached. They care called Bling Bling Clips and come with a Pink glass case and they are COOL!!!! Karen
  18. My father was always facinated with maps. Before his illnesses when he could get around and travel he ALWAYS had book Atlas's. After he was in the nursing home, we papered his walls with framed pictures of maps. He loved them. Would study them for hours. I think alot of it came from him being injured in Korea and knowing where he was when he was injured and then waking up in a totally different place. In order for him to "place" himself he mapped. He had only been told where he had been because he was in a coma until he was back in Tokyo. For a poor boy from Checotah who would have probably ended up being a farmer like his daddy, he traveled a long ways off. Karen
  19. Like everyone has said..... When you get there (within what your GPS says in the RIGHT spot), Look for hiding spots, trails to off trail, disturbed grass, disturbed leaves, piles of sticks, ect. Anything that is out of "place". Above all, Have FUN!!!!! Karen
  20. N5PNE is a volunteer for our local Emergency Management Services and also a HAM operator. He also is into the Weather Watching thing. My usual comments to the weather watching is........Drop me and the girls off at the shelter and have fun. When I was in the OKANG (Oklahoma Air National Guard) I was a Dental Assistant and then I went to Nursing School...... but I didn't finish (thank GOD). Not much but hey..... Karen
  21. I like both but I have 2 senerios. I do city caching when I am alone. I feel MUCH more comfortable in a city park than in a forest without N5PNE (Mark). When we are together we are almost always Kountry Kachers. Karen aka okpondlady/N5PNE
  22. When myself and N5PNE decided to place our cache in Fountainhead State Park now renamed Lake Eufaula State Park, we met the park manager on the way out of her office and said... Hey Sue!!! We wanna put a cache here is that ok?? Apparently she knew what it was and didn't have a problem with it, even suggested a part of the park that didn't have one already. Now as far as our Corp of Engineers, in their policy book that is available to the public, there will be nothing up to and including caches placed on Corp grounds. Supposedly this is because of Native American ruins in our area or something. I don't know. Don't matter that much to me. I would pay $30 bucks a year for all the enjoyment I have gotten from people finding my cache (even if it is off its rocker, ummm that is coordinates... a bit, reportedly). okpondlady/N5PNE
  23. I kinda enjoyed the article. I am like most others that thought he was making fun of himself or at least his own lifestyle. Personally, I know some things about me. I am NOT brave, so when I say I am ChickenSh##, I mean I am. That don't mean I am poking fun at someone else for having more bravery than me. I don't like things that go bump in the night but there are LOTS of you guys that cache at night...alone no less. OMG I would die of fright, AT LEAST. I don't do long hikes. I am good for about 2 miles or so. That means if it is farther than a mile in... count me out. Some of us are just like that. Lots of geocachers are fit and into ALOT of outdoors stuff. Personally, I just like to get out of the house and go to a park and spend time with Mark and my girls. We look like the Beef Trust together. Just us...... of course, I am trying to teach the girls better habits, but that is hard when you don't example them. My point is.. Not all Geocachers are the same. Not all of "us" like the same things. Like the rest of the human race, we are different. Sometimes you roll with things. Cut the man some slack, he was probably assigned to the article without much choice and in all truth wasn't particularly interested. I thought he did a pretty good article myself. Karen aka okpondlady/N5PNE
  24. Last Saturday while we were headed to a new cache, all excited about being FTF, HOPEFULLY, while we were loading up with the "cache stuff", the kids saw a dock and other kids jumping around and off of it. They took off and I looked down to see the oldest pushing the little one who can't swim. I yelled and started walking that way. I didn't look at my feet...I was looking at the DD's and that AIN"T Darling...... hahahaha. I went down on top of my right leg, twisted ankle, twisted knee. All 260+ on top.... DAM IT HURT. okpondlady/N5PNE
  25. I am way way a chicken......I NEVER, EVER cache at night or alone. N5PNE would probably about kill me anyway. He is sooo good to go with me since this is MY obsession. hahahahaha. okpondlady/N5PNE
