  1. Gung Ho FTF Hounds who "steal the thrill" for others new to geocaching. Example, we have this cacher in our area & this cacher's FTF on just about everythng. Don't get me wrong everyone's like to be FTF if given the chance but we recently have had a surge in newbie geocachers in our area finally & it's really discouraging to them that this one cacher is always FTF on everything, like it's somesort of friggin, badge of honor or something to ALWAYS(& I mean Always) be FTF. Yes, I openly admit, I was like that in the begining but only to slow this cacher down abit. I stopped because of the newbie geocachers in the area & so would let them enjoy the thrill of the hunt. I won't even type FTF on 1/1 caches if I stumble upon an FTF opportunity. On challenging caches 3 or above or just a real clever cache maybe I would consider typing in the log FTF. On 1/1 what's the point? unless you're a newbie. I'm not saying I don't hunt 1/1's just that I'm not out there running to FTF. I would like the newbies to have a chance and gain experience. Would like others opinions on this subject. Anyone else encounter this & what did you do to alieviate the situation? Jeepysr
  2. Thanks all for your help & suggestions. All's well now. Utilities & unlock wizard, then it was a breeze from then on. Oh, And thanks for also suggesting the update Sputnik. we're good to go! Again, thanks so much All! Sal
  3. Thanks CTD for pointing me in the right direction. I new something was amiss. BTW i'm using City Select North America V6.01 which I just recently updated.
  4. Hello, I have a GPSV with registered Mapsource Software, I want to tranfer the Waypoints & maps to my Etrex Legend which has base map of N. America. Is this possible? When I hit the Transfer Waypoints & Mapsets, it transfers on the computer but its not on the Legend. Any ideas? Sorry kinda of new to this.
  5. In California, everything's doing well this year. Grasses, weeds, poison oak... we've had a lot of rain and ideal conditions for them. Lucky for us, deer love poison oak so even though there may be more, it's just going to mean better venison! Those look like some dang good vittles there Bill! Well Done! I hear Goats & Donkeys will eat PO also(no pun intended). I was up hiking around Mt. Diablo this past weekend & the PO is just everywhere! Everything that was green & glossy was all around us. We stayed on the nice wide pathways and away from anything remotely looking like PO. After the episode above(I should know better than that) No more PO for me!
  6. Dang I could've used this about 2 weeks ago! Just now begining to heal up. Size of about a quarter but man! Yes, I did try everything which only helped slightly. The size didn't warrent a course of corticosteroids so I had to ride it out for a couple of weeks.
  7. Hmmm, I recall being run off this area twice! Once by human, Once by K-9 Sorry Z & I missed Motowns Greatest Hits. My father has some health issues we are dealing with right now but we should be right as rain in a month or so. Really enjoying reading all the logs & posts. Even though we won't beable to cache for awhile, I can still be up to date with all that's going on within the CVC. Hope to see all soon Sal & Z
  8. Oops! Put this on the wrong heading so moved it here for the CVC; Z & I went out for a few caches yesterday & thought we might as well go for a challenge as well. We located Revenge, Sweet Revenge! a true classic Streeter Hide. We can't believe we are only the 9th team to log this bad boy & that it hasn't been found in over 2 years! It is a challenging cache & the surrounding hills are a beautiful lush green this time of year with cascading perennial streams flowing, so now would be an excellent time to go for this one! I can see why this cache gave so many people headaches! Luckily time & experience gave us alittle advantage. Also, a big thanks to Brute Force for confirming that the cache was most likely still there after all this time! A nice outing was had by all! Sal & Z
  9. Moved this to the CVC forum. Sal & Z
  10. I'd tell them what you're racing with and if they have no problem, I say... Bring it on! For that FTF: JeepySR must of DNF. Perhaps it's too far for WildLifeGuy. Maybe 4Wheeler doesn't like the cold. Could SnoWake be a sleep. I know it's the busy time of the year for Special Delivery. TeamTek probably can't get a ride. Cachecows209 has the same problem. AmyTinCan is on the move. Snow? That wouldn't keep these cachers away! Nah, just a little too far for us just for a cache. Our limit is around 25-30 miles away or 1+ hours to get there. Or we're just too lazy! Come Thaw out we are there! Caught a lot of fish near this bridge over the years so know exactly where it at. Ofcourse we can lead an expedition through the snow to retrieve this one. Any takers?
  11. Very nice TeePee! Reminds me of the Aztec Temples in the Yucatan. Great job in locating CVC. It's nice to have new cachers playing "Tag" on our team, we can sure use them when the southern CVC'ers come a callin'.
  12. Cool! And only 7421 miles from my home coordinates! Maybe I can beat Jeepysr to this FTF ??? It wasn't always like this. After falling behind the "Tekinator" in lots of FTF's Z decided to step it up abit & just go out anytime if within reason. (Sometimes without reason). There are cachers who put out caches to see all the FTF hounds go for it. Believe me they are there whether they realise it or not. Some even go on work breaks, lunch breaks etc. to be FTF. What is really fun & even more challenging than FTF is what we like to call FTS (First to Swipe). This is where there is a new cache listed in another town & you go in and swipe it before the locals! We only managed to do it a few times but it is such a Blast that we even look for opportunities for this. Most of the time your second to find on these but you get lucky once in a awhile! I agree with Camel, it's an addiction!(see Signature) Check, check, check & check again & be ready to go anytime. Like I said, we've been very lucky lately. There are others in Stockton who enjoy a FTF like everyone else but they've probably been too busy to drop everything & head out. You just never know when others will join in on the frenzie, so you always have to go if you can! Best of luck to you & hope to see ya around a new cache soon(after me that is!) Sal & Z
  13. Oh ! Lord, Stuck in Lodi again,.. CCR?
  14. That's an easy one! All you have to do is have a 14 year old(Z) who needs to cache 24/7! I do my best to restrain him at times but when no one else in Stockton is caching you can get a lot of FTF's. Wait till the weather warms up & everyone is out to be FTF! That's when the fun really starts. We missed a really good one down in Ripon a few weeks back but just so happens we were not able to make a run at that one.National Treasure-Ripon We'll have to get down there soon to do it as the reviews are excellent! We once went out at 3am to be FTF on a LOTR's cache in Elk Grove Cache of the Rings & it was worth it! Thing of it is, you have to be ready & willing to go at anytime. If it's within 30 miles, you can be sure we are thinking about it! Lastly, I'm lucky I live so close to Tek, he doesn't even realise it! As for putting caches out, we're working on it. We have some ready to go, just need to find good places for them.
  15. That was a good one to do and a lot of great information. Just look at the age of the cache and the number of finds. One I recommend highly. OLDHIPPY Here is another highly recomended cache. It's very cool to do. Z & I had fun doing this one & the stroll was great too as was the sunset. It was really logistically fun. The Knowledge Tree
  16. Hey Bill, I had a similar experience a few months back only mine was of the reptilian kind. This is 4 out of a clutch of 20 Bearded Dragons that hatched on that day!
  17. It still pretty easy to spot CVC TAG from here but let me increase the magnification & resolution of the satellite so that all who are hunting this cache can get a better idea of where it may be located. Look very closely at all the clue(s) Now, go get it! .
  18. Well, there goes the neighborhood! And then some more! Well, I guess we are the only 2 active Stockton cachers this time of year. Where is everyone? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone out there? We have a few caches to put out, but we are really busy being FTF on the new ones you're putting out. ____ Since CVC Tag is coming up on a month with no find, would it be possible for me to relocate it to a different area? I just went out & checked on it & it was still there with a little leaf litter around it but still out in the open. No one seems to bother/question me when I go out there & look. Perhaps I should relocate it to a less "Hideous" area. ------- Did anyone get a load of that flashlight Cachecows209 was luggin' 'round last Friday night! 10 million Candle Power was abit overkill wouldn't you say? Makes for a nice hand warmer!
  19. Well, there goes the neighborhood!
  20. Hmmm, I don't know how come it's been so hard to locate the CVC Tag. It's there right in the open! As for the private property & people coming out asking questions, You should've seen Z & I while we were down in Motown Searching for Tag in front of a Dental Complex when someone came out asked if they could help us. Z & I said Yes! That would be great! I better go check on this one, it HAS been out there a few storms ago & could have "Settled" abit. Stay tuned,....
  21. I think you should email me the whole cache so I can preview it. You know me, just trying to help whenever I can. -Laura Me to! You know how much I love multi's Don Me too, you know how much we like to be FTF! Sal & Z
  22. Sounds like a plan. Z & I are ready for the adventure(Z just wants Pizza!) So far the only other cachers going with us is Alan from Geosharks. Anyone else need a lift? Plenty of room. Lets see, Batteries-check,Camara-check,GPS-check,Flashlight-check, Maps-check,Money-check, Cell-check, Permission from wifey-OOPS!,.........
  23. Still plenty of Room! So can we count you in? This is gonna be Sooo much fun! Anyone Else????
  24. Went down to Manteca to do some GeoSwiping but turns out someone else swiped the FTF before we even got there. Hourglass I see Mr. Bill was Second to find, Congrats! It was nice caching on a rainey afternoon!
  25. Oooh! This looks mighty tempting! Jan. 22, 04 looks like a full Moon too! Might have to mark the Calender for this day. Thanks for the info Bill Let's see how much interest this generates,..... OK, so Geodanimal calls and wants to go on a night hunt, so we head out for Wait Until Dark. Didn't have to dodge too many raindrops. Trail was very slippery in spots (like oops! splat!). I saw many markers that I followed, until they blinked or moved! It was great fun. Recommended! (In fact, if ya'll go, I'd tag along just to do the hike again ) I'm just waiting for JeepySr's reply on January 21st cause we can't make it on the 22nd. Yup! Looks as if Friday the 21st of Jan. is good to go for us. Anyone else care to venture into the darkness? I have room for approx. 5 people. So if anyone is interested & needs a ride in the Stockton area just give us a holler. On a side note Z found CVC Tag! Yeah! Yes, Z found it, I was talking with Ryan so was distracted abit. Also, Ryan was sitting down watching us all the way. The pressure was tremendous! Dispite the enormous pressure, Z located it fairly quickly. Log was kinda damp so we didn't sign it for fear of ripping it. Thanks for bringing back CVC Tag back to Stockton Ryan! Lets keep it here for awhile! Ah HAHA HA HAAA(evil laughter) Ok who's next???????
