  1. Just prior to Geowoodstock8 I was publishing a Wherigo and supposedly had the final area locked. Unfortunately that didnt work out, so I had to use one of my other caches in area. Archived that to publish Wherigo. And yes I used exact same location. Many logged both caches as PQs were up to months old for travelers coming to the mega event. I never deleted any logs for archived cache but emailed a few that I would if I saw defamatory logs. Personally I dont care if an archived cache is logged, if you find a container-log it hopefully it will be the correct container, in this rare instance it wasnt the correct cache container but I understood the unique issues concerning it so let it go with no worries have fun, be safe and happy hunting
  2. I had a blast with ours in Washington state so I am going to make a Double Fizzy challenge as soon as I get off my butt and get all 81X2 unless somebody beats me to it, then I will get to go claim the smiley Hint Hint
  3. I log when I get home, sometimes hours later but always the same day as a find if you play the ftf hound game then expect to get skunked now and again my biggest peeve isnt about ftf logging but not logging Tbs for weeks or longer
  4. I see tons of potential for these heading to REI tomorrow and will keep checking Garmin site as well
  5. seller is just plain rude for using somebody elses event to try to hock some coins if it was my event I would delete log entry and send info to GS
  6. my 2 cents worth as a fairly new cartridge writer I wanted to make a splash with a new one so a friend helped teach me the builder then we found URWIGO that seems to work pretty good we published GC2AY6Y 2 days prior to GW8 and so far has been hit/played 400+ times I am currently working on another one that will be a Fremont tour, very near Groundspeak (WP2) that should bring some more attention to Wherigo I am all for this but I see the smartphone market as the one to go to vice Garmin etc for players WhereYouGo works great on my Droid
  7. Published this one just prior to Geowoodstock VIII (GC2AY6Y) Over 400+ logs and not many complaints of crashes. Tested using Colorados, Oregons and Androids. Oregon 550 has some issues depending on firmware date. Droid using Whereyougo app seems to work very well. I have yet to see a FC doing other Wherigo cartridges using Droid and WhereYouGo. I am building more cartrdges now and will be populating Puget Sound with more Wherigo CACHES. Working on a tough one very near Groundspeak and maybe that will gain some more interest in this unique game.
  8. look for local events and be sure to attend meet some people and have fun

A huge loss to our community. RIP
  10. I recognize quite a few of you now. I met many during Geowoodstock8 and all the events before and after. have fun, be safe and happy hunting
  11. my first 100 or so finds were with a car gps alot of DNFs but it sure taught me how to search I still get DNFs and log em too so as to keep the cache owner notified in case there is a problem with cache some might have been missing, some I just plain didnt find as many have said before, start with the larger containers with difficulty of a star or two then as you gain more 'Geosense' you will go after the harder ones have fun, be safe and happy hunting
  12. My son and I had a great time at GW8. We got there early (6:15) to help setup. Parking wasnt an issue. Was impressed with how many helped out, After the long day many people stayed behind to clean and then load the truck. Thanks to all for your efforts. I hope everyone had a chance to experience the Wherigo cache that rambudo and I placed in Carnation. Attended most all events leading up to GW and met many new friends. Highlight of the long weeked was HQ event-WOOHOO said my son as we didnt have to work this event. We were able to just have fun and wander. I hope everyone has recovered from the long week. See you on the trails. Have fun, be safe and happy hunting
  13. was wondering when this would get moved I use a Droid and am with Verizon as well. I really like this phone as a compliment to my 60Csx with the exception of short battery life. I will be exploring the new Droid X as I have heard awesome reviews so far. Groundspeak is working on an app for Droid as we type. Looking forward to seeing finished product.
  14. GC app for Droid in beta is doing nicely shouldnt be too much longer
  15. Everything above is good info. Easy enough to setup. Get one or more peeps to go Hide caches and plot GPS coords. Write em down. Setup clues etc for each. Print info sheets for Searchers and let me go for it. Have fun, be safe and happy hunting
  16. Craigslist or local surplus store, but they are more expensive this time of year they are in higher demand so the price goes up
  17. I emailed Groundspeak about this wonder what will happen
  18. PN-40 is a great unit for the $ there are a couple of others in that same price range you might consider tho 2 weeks ago I got to test the Garmin 60CSx, Magellan Triton500 and Magellan Explorist GC all side by side for features the GC won hands down, but for the electronic compass the 60csx rules Since I also use a Droid with a few geocaching apps this was an easy decision the 60 and the Droid work well together, or iPhone as well all were purchased at REI and had a money back guarantee the GC went back and the 60 is now part of the tools REI now has many units on sale at 200 bucks so you might check them out before purchasing anywhere else-they have an awesome return or money back policy have fun, be safe and happy hunting
  19. just an idea but for my hides I try to take seeker to a cool area and not just a place to dump a container I also try to match container to location, makes it more interesting for seeker and it usually ends up being more popular due to word of mouth etc have fun, be safe and happy hunting
  20. Welcome to Geocaching when I first discovered this sport I used a Garmin Nuvi 260W wasnt the easiest to use finding caches but it did teach me to Search and helped me develope the so called 'geo-sense' I actually used this unit for my first 100 or so finds before finally upgrading to a Garmin 60csx that rocks. I remember thinking when I tried the handheld that OMG, geocaching is alot faster now! as others have said using a Nuvi, change it to 'Pedestrian Mode' when you get close to cache-that will help so, my 2 cents said Have fun, be safe and happy hunting
  21. well said and thought out, I like your way of thinking
  22. This is not an original idea but snagged from HeadHardHat cheap and easy to make, about 5-6 bucks at local hardware, plumbing store container holding log is in film canister with a magnet attached to bottom that goes inside pvc container-magnet/bottom first on bottom of pvc container you add another magnet that holds film canister into pvc container I used metal plumbing tape and adhered a couple of heavy magnets to attache to metal box behind a store near local shopping mall so far has had excellent reviews (GC1XFZZ)
