  11. I always dork up my milestones 100 went by, then 200 1000, then 2000 I had ideas on which to make for each one but missed each one I found out which milestones I had when I was done logging each day oh well all finds are milestones
  12. I have had my eyes set on Psycho Vertigo for a year now. Missed going with some of the locals last summer. I will attempt sometime this coming spring or summer-looks awesome and I am always up to a fun challenge.
  13. using GE you can also use placemarks, then open ruler measure between marks
  14. Lynndale Cito GC2M5M1 2/5/2011 GC2M5M1
  15. I definitely prefer the unique and well hidden container that matches its environment those caches will always stand out and be more memorable at the end of the day, those are the ones you will remember, even months later
  16. Too many will do a HIDE then give up on GC'ing and forget or just Abandon I try to keep my GPSr updated frequently with fresh PQs that helps
  17. Welcome to the hobby/sport and obsession have fun, be safe and happy hunting
  18. started with a nuvi car gps, sure taught me to search then got a 60csx, wow geocaching sure got quicker and easier-loved that unit then on craigslist I saw a 62st brand new for sale for 230 bucks, with great skepticism I went and checked it out. Yup brand new so I purchased. Then checked with local police to ensure it was not stolen and all clear, whew. Got it home and registered it with Garmin and all good there. Learning curve coming from a 60 to the 62 was strange but I would not go back to the 'ol trusty 60csx now. The 62 beats the Oregons by far. You can actually see the screen in bright daylight. It really bites that your gizmo got stolen, I feel for you there. I know how lost I would be without my GC TOTT. Goodluck on your search for a new tool
  19. Only thing I dislike about Nanos is attempting to rewind the log. I have fat thumbs and this is almost impossible for me. I dont mind searching for these micro containers, its a challenge. I recently was told about a winding tool that can be purchased at craft store called a Quilling Tool. 3 bucks and it rewinds logs very easily. So the pain of these minuscule logs has now been alleviated.
  20. I am organizing a local city park cito event. As this is my first hosted event I did alot of research first. I spoke with city parks manager first with ideas. Then we walked the park and they showed me areas that could use some attention. I also asked for garbage bags etc and was given many. I spoke with local merchants to help sponsor as well. BBQ and prize donations etc. I got alot of help there. Emailed a few local papers to get this advertised and out to the public. Excellent response there. When event is published on GC site I will also post event on Facebook to help attract even more volunteers. I asked for help from friends etc. As a helper and volunteer for many of the events leading up to GW8 I learned that successful events cant be done by yourself. Besides the cleanup I plan on BBQ, Scavenger hunt, Unique Trash collected prizes and usual raffle giveaways to keep it interesting and not just the usual CITO. I am not limiting this to just geocachers, but to all who enjoy the park and the outdoors. Also helps promote geocaching and Groundspeak to non-geocachers too.
  21. maybe a desiccant bag as condensation will accumulate but be sure to label it well so nobody takes it as swag
  22. DL Garmin Communicator and that should allow you to upload caches to your gpsr to delete pois connect your gpsr to computer via cable supplied, you can now view as a drive-delete what you want
  23. My first 100 or so 'finds' were found using a car gps set to 'pedestrian' mode. Sure didnt work very well in the woods. But it did teach me to search. I can still remember the joy of finding the first lamp post hide or magnetic key box, that was pretty cool. Nowadays when I find one and the first thought is 'Lame' I try to remember back to when I first started out and the joy of finding those things. I can only hope it is the same to new cachers. What frustrated me the most was some of the more experienced cachers who had to put there 2 cents worth on cache listing pages. Most of it of course was after they logged a smiley, yup we all know a few of those peeps. This hobby is different for each and everyone of us, but we do share some of the same things. Get outside and play. Have fun, be safe and happy hunting
  24. 62st screen visibility exceeds 550 by far. Accuracy seems fine comparing both side by side in all conditions but 62 reacts faster than Oregons and Colorados. Compass on the 62 easily beats the Oregons and Colorados. Touch screen is a cool idea but gets dirty and that makes it harder to see so again my choice goes to the 62 series
