  1. Hi all! I hope you are all doing well. Here’s some information regarding today’s update: User-Intent Search Here’s what this is, and what it means for you: When you as a geocacher search by location, say for example, ‘Germany’ and after viewing the map, decide to pan the map so that now ‘Ireland’ is in the viewport of your map, we will surface a small banner image with the message to ‘Search the area’. By clicking ‘Search this area’, this will launch a new search for that new location, in this case ‘Ireland’. Not only does this provide choice and intent to the geocacher, but it also prevents unnecessary search service requests, thereby providing a more responsive map, and a better experience for the geocacher. New Map Settings: We’ve added an additional setting allowing the geocacher to set the number of caches shown on the map. When on the New Map, you can access this setting from the drop down option next to your profile image. Select ‘Map settings’: Here’s the new ‘Map settings’ modal view: The default setting is 500 caches, but you can move the slider and set the number of caches that you would like to see on the map. In cases when the geocacher has not set their Home Location, we’ll display this modal view (see below), allowing the player to both set the number of caches visible, as well as the geocacher’s Home Location: Ability to Map Lists to the New Map: Mapping your list from the List Hub now loads those caches onto the New Map. In this example, I selected the ‘near my house’ list, then selected ‘Map List’. And here are the results of mapping that list, now on the New Map: Lastly, here’s another recap of what we the team is working on, and what you will be seeing in the coming weeks and months. Multi-select list view - This provides a way to select specific caches from the map’s list view, and add them to list. List and Map - This is probably the most requested change in the forum. We plan to decouple the search results list from the map, so that from the initial search on the home page, you will have the option to view the search results on a list or on the map. Search World - Editing and optimizing the zoom level so that we honor searches that require a zoom level to show the entire world. Filters and Sort - Continuing to add filters and sorting options that exist on the old map, our goal is full parity. Best, Brendan
  2. Hi all, I’m reading through the forum and and wanted to jump in to explain what we are currently working on. In addition to working through performance issues (we are always looking at ways to make it snappier and faster) and fixing bugs, we have the identified the following big-ish pieces that remain. Multi-select list view - This provides a way to select specific caches from the maps’s list view, and add them to list List and Map - This is probably the most requested change in the forum. We plan to decouple the search results list from the map, so that from the initial search on the home page, you will have the option to view the search results on a list or on the map (this is similar to how the current map/search works) Search World - Editing and optimizing the zoom level so that we honor searches that require a zoom level to show the entire world. Radius - Adding a radial search option. The use case is “search X miles from this location” where this location is where you are currently located. Filters and Sort - Continuing to add filters and sorting options that exist on the old map, our goal is full parity. We’ll have an update coming shortly, and I’ll provide detailed release notes regarding the features and bugs fixes when we do. Also, just an acknowledgment that some of these items listed above require more than a sprint’s worth of work. Best, Brendan
  3. Hi all, I just wanted to take a moment to share some a quick update we rolled out for the new map and search experience. Today’s update includes: GeoTours toggle in the filters and sort panel Toggle this on to see only caches that are part of GeoTours! Fixed a bug with the newest cache sort not properly sorting newest placed caches Fixed a bug with opening/dismissing the left hand list view menu on the map A newly designed list item: GC Code and Favorites are moved above the cache name GC code will no longer truncate New fully tested and validated display of the the difficulty, terrain and, size attributes As I mentioned in the previous update and post, this is what we are continuing to work on. Lists - specifically the ability to map bookmarked Lists. The major work on this is close to completion. We are polishing and nailing down edge cases. Multi-select control from the list view on the map. Search and sort by distance Edit default zoom levels for specific use cases Decoupling the search results list and map - this is a very common request! Best, Brendan
  4. Hi everyone, Posting a quick update here. During yesterday's deployment we failed to update a dependent service, and as such the new Premium Filters were not working as designed. This morning, we just updated the dependent service in question and now the filters are working as intended. The team would like to issue are sincerest apologies for the delay and any frustration this may have caused. Best, Brendan
  5. Hi all, We had originally intended to deploy these updates at the conclusion of last week. I apologize for our delay. This is what is included with today’s update: Premium Filters - We added the following filter options to the new map Premium and Basic Found and Not Found Owned and Not Owned Enabled and Disabled Cache status filtering options: Added the ability to opt-in to the new map from the old search results list page This allows testers who have chosen to opt out of the new map experience, and who at a later date want to experience it again to do so. Look for the blue banner and select ‘GO TO NEW MAP’ to opt-in (or in some cases, opt back in) to the new map experience. Here’s what we are working on now, and will be deploying in the coming weeks: Lists - specifically the ability to map bookmarked lists Multi-select control from the list view on the map Search and Sort by Distance Best, Brendan
  6. Hi @thebruce0 That is a request that we are getting a strong signal on and in fact we just broke out on it and discussed it as a team. I am comfortable sharing that we are researching and scoping how we might go about bringing back that functionality. When we have a stronger point of view and something to share, perhaps I can run it by you for your feedback? Best, Brendan
  7. Hi all, Thanks again for your valuable feedback. Be assured, I am reading all of your comments. Here are the current updates: Dismiss-able, Left Hand List Menu - Please let us know what you think, as this has been a highly requested item Added a 'Hide My DNFs' toggle in the Cache Details Preview Right Mouse Click on Caches. - If you right click on a cache pin on the map, you will see the following actionable menu items - Log Geocache, Add to List, Download GPX Initial work completed on sharing caches using the following format (see below) where GCK25B is the GC Code https://www.geocaching.com/play/map?st=GCK25B Once we complete the user interface (UI, ie, the look and feel) portion of the ability to switch between maps, we will deploy that as well. Next up, we’ll be working on continuing to close the parity gap between old map and new, specifically bringing in Premium Filtering options. Following that, we’ll be focusing on lists and the ability to map lists. Also looking at opening individual caches in new tabs. Thanks once again for your patience and feedback. Please stay tuned to this forum thread for further updates. Best, Brendan
  8. Hi. Just a quick note to let you know that the team is currently working on this specific functionality - that is, the ability to switch back and forth, for the precise reason you have noted. Thanks again for your support and patience. Best, Brendan
  9. Hi everyone, the team just published an update to the new map and search experience, including the following enhancements and bug fixes: Leaflet: Selecting an active cache via the list view rendered an additional pin slightly off from actual pin, this is now fixed Web Favicon on New Map Page is now consistent with all other Favicons. ‘Add to List’ was added to mobile web view Standardized Copy on GPX and send to GPX CTA Disable add to list if zero search results Solved Puzzles : Add a solved puzzle icon to listview item New map displays solved icon then dnf icon on hover, this is now fixed. Various mobile web filter layout fixes Prevent panning above/below map boundaries - panning is now limited to the visible map area The big things we worked on, but aren’t quite ready, are the following: The ability to dismiss the left hand list menu, providing a full map view The ability for geocachers to move between the two map experiences (old and new). We are very excited to deliver the left hand list menu feature to the geocaching community asap, and it is almost ready. At the moment, it requires just a bit more time spent to ensure we have the animation just right. In addition to settling on the animation, we are also still considering some edge cases scenarios, and how to handle those specific situations. Fear not, you will have this functionality soon! In addition, we are exploring to how best present the various Premium filtering, sorting and searching options in the new map experience. Thanks once again for your patience and feedback. Please stay tuned to this forum thread for further updates. Best, Brendan
  10. Hi. Jumping back in to provide some clarity on my last post. Thanks for your feedback. By 'user story' I am just referring to how we track our work. I apologize for causing any confusion. Please think of it as it being representative of a feature. We are certainly working on allowing users to move between the new map experience and the old. As noted, this will allow testers to provide a good side by side comparison. Once this is ready, it will be part of our bi-weekly deployment. Best, Brendan
  11. Thanks for all the terrific feedback so far, everyone! Keep sending the bug reports and feedback as you use the map! The development team that is working on the new map experience is currently operating on a two week sprint cadence, with the goal of releasing new map updates at the conclusion of the sprint. During that update, I will be posting in this forum the 'release notes'; detailing expectations on what you as a new map user can expect to see. For your specific feedback regarding features that are currently not available in the new map experience, please be sure to understand that we hear you and are paying attention! In essence, we are performing this slow rollout to not only get signals and reports on how the new map and search experience is working from a technical and monitoring perspective, but also to understand from the community what's working, what's not, what could be better, and how. All of these inputs influence the team's backlog of work items and the corresponding priority to build and launch these features. For example, we as a team felt like the ability to dismiss the left hand list menu was an important feature and based on the feedback we have received here in this forum, you all agree as well! As such we prioritized that user story over others and have begun work on it. Our end goal is to delight and inspire the new map user and to reach parity feature-wise with the current or "old map" where appropriate. Thanks again for your patience and feedback. Please stay tuned for our upcoming updates to the new map. Best, Brendan
  12. Hello, I am sorry to hear about your friend's experience. She can certainly opt out of the new map experience, by selecting 'What's This' from the upper right hand corner of the view on the new map page and then just following the directions on how to opt out.. I apologize if that wasn't clear. Your friend, as well as anyone in the test group, can revert back to the old map experience at any any time. If and an individual opts out of the new experience, we are actively soliciting feedback on what's missing and the reason for the opt out. I hope this explanation helps. Best, Brendan
  13. Hello, That was a typo! Thanks for catching it. I have corrected it - thanks again! Best, Brendan
  14. Hi, Thanks for sending in this feedback! We have rolled out a new map experience to an initial cohort of 1000K users. Yes, that is very small number. The purpose of the slow rollout is to gather both both qualitative and quantitative feedback on the new map experience. The friend you mentioned in your post is a premium member and is part of this 1K user cohort. To address the specific feedback related to advanced search and the Filters button - the new map does not have the advanced search page and the corresponding Filters button that you have noted. Some of this functionality can be found by using the Filters button on the list view on the new map. We are continuing to work on bringing more of that functionality to the new map. Best, Brendan Walsh
