Il y a deja un sujet comme ca dans le forum "Geocaching General" (ou quelque chose comme ca...) Mais j'imagine qu'il n'y a rien qui empeche de creer un forum des plus belles caches canadienne... Une que j'ai bien aimee, personnellement, etait un contenant tout a fait standard, mais il etait entourre de guirlandes de Noel... Pas les brillantes: celles qui imitent les branches de sapin. Ok. Maybe I wasn't clear in the first place... I don't want to "stir the pot". I'm just saying that they are planning to ban certain activities in the park and I was wondering if anybody knew if Geocaching was one of them.

People are talking about restricting activities that are currently tolerated. On the radio, I heard snowmobile, but none of the other activities they want to restrict. Does anybody know if Geocaching is part of those activities? They're supposed to have public consultations on October 27th ant 28th. I've been searching the NCC web site but I cannot find anything about this. Can anybody help? In french: from CBC website

Ok, I'll summarize, in English. We'd like our messages on the Canada forum because if we put all of our messages in "Geocaching Quebec", we can't have the notion of a thread. So we're thinking about adding a "FR-" prefix to all the French messages in Canada. Example: "FR-J'ai besoin d'aide avec XYZ" Sounds good? Alex

C'est tres court -- et donc pas trop envahissant -- et c'est l'abbreviation officielle internationnale pour le francais (tk en informatique...) J'aime l'idee de Galaad d'utiliser un prefix "QUEBEC-" a nos sujets, mais je crois que, pour respecter les francophones hors-Quebec, il serait preferables d'utiliser comme prefix "FR-". En passant, cette Thread est pas mal un meli-melo de messages qui ont comme seul point comme d'etre en francais. Je suggererais de poster nos messages directement en francais dans la page principale, peut-etre en utilisant un code du type "FR - " au debut du sujet. Je dirais que ca depends du nombre de visiteurs ou tu caches ta cache (ca sonne drole...) Si tu as beaucoup de visiteurs, tu vas peut-etre avoir a la verifier plus regulierement. J'en ai une a Chicoutimi et je n'ai pas eu encore besoin d'aller la visiter. Par contre, mon autre a ete portee disparue et je dois aller la remplacer. Je dirais qu'en moyenne, tu peux t'en tirrer avec quatre visites par annees. Concernant les location-less, la reponse est qu'il ne s'en fabrique plus. Alexandre

Concernant WAAS, je ne m'y connais pas vraiment, mais je crois qu'il s'agit de signaux similaires a ceux des satellites mais emits a partir de tours. Utilises en combinaison avec les satellites, ca donne une meilleure precision. (Confirmez ailleurs, je ne suis pas 100% certain sur ce que j'affirme ici...) Concernant la precision des GPS, ca a ete fait en 2000 et c'est seulement depuis que le Geocaching peut vraiment se faire, parce qu'avant il y avait une precision de 100' si ma memoire est bonne (ca fait une mechante grande zone a ratisser pour trouver un plat tupperware!!!) D'ailleurs c'est cet evenement qui a declencher le premier geocacher a aller placer une cache quelques jours apres le debrouillage des signaux. Pour repondre a la sous-question, les signaux etaient brouilles sur les satellites alors meme si vous avez un GPS qui date de cette epoque, il devrait depuis 2000 etre beaucoup plus precis. Un de mes amis utilise un vieux Magellan qu'il a achete usage en 1998 et il l'utilise maintenant pour faire du Geocaching et il a normalement une precision similaire au mien (aussi un Magellan, mais un modele plus recent.) According to the convertions I made, it's somewhere between Ottawa and Montreal so you shouldn't have any problem finding somebody to help you. I live in Ottawa and might be driving to Montreal this weekend (not 100% sure.) If I do, I'll take a picture of my GPS showing these coordinates. Just for fun, what kind of machine are they and how big are the hard-drives? 700,000 images... Even small images, that's still about 100-150 gig.

J'ai ete place la premiere cache sur le territoire de la ville de Saguenay (secteur Chicoutimi). GCK65Y Icecoolputer, ca te fera une premiere cache a trouver apres ton demenagement. Vas en placer une pour ma prochaine visite dans la region (en octobre.)

From my experience, I find that only knowing how far I'm from the cache is not enough. I need to know in which direction the cache is too. And unless your GPSr has a built-in compass, you need a compass to translate the heading/bearing to the actual direction (unless you're really good at finding your direction with the sun/stars!)
