  1. hi I'm assuming this isn't possible but would be amazing if it was possible. Is there any way just to get the paths? no roads, or land - just the trails/paths? I've got a topo map which doesn't contain paths or trails - if I could overlay your paths, it would be perfect! Chick
  2. I was trying to get advice, all the websites I've visited so far aren't very helpful. Maybe get in contact with someone who has done the whole thong...
  3. Hello! I am trying to find information on the coast to coast walk. I have heard that over recent years that the coast to coast walk has been updated avoid trespassing. I was wondering if anyone out there either knows of a good website or book which contains current information on the coast to coast walk? I am guessing that there isn't anywhere that lists GPS Co-Ords for the walk but that would be handy! Anyways thanks for you time Boo and Chick

  8. I have a Oregon 300, if I was a premium member it would download the closet 500 geocaches on to it if I did the pocket query thing?
  9. 'Premium features for the avid geocacher: Download up to 500 waypoints at a time using Pocket Queries. Premium members receive 5 Pocket Queries a day!' Premium members receive 5 Pocket Queries a day!'???? (I dont understand)
  10. oh and heres the next bit, I've downloaded the free maps (thanks Talkytoasteruk) so is it possible to get the same types of free maps for france? (currently trying to convince the other half to do this really long hike I did whilst I was at college a few years ago with me)
  11. hey just to let you all know, I've just ordered the Oregon 300 from amazon, it was about £245 on offer so I thought I'd get this one. The screen brightness issue doesn't bother me as i've read you can turn the brightness up to combat this but it'll eat the battery life up so I'll take extra batteries with me Thanks for all your help and advice Chick
  12. i think im going to go with the oregon 300, I've been watching a few videos of it and it look great. I know there has been screen issues, not being able to see it in sun light, does anyone own or has tried it and had this problem!?!?

  15. Got an iphone, but can't use it under tree cover, I'd love to do the wood caches but can't as the gps doesn't work under tree cover. Iphone is hard to hide caches with as it doesn't give co-ords - atm I have to keep going on google earth to get my co-ords then ak first finder to give me more accurate gps co-ords... Also, want the GPS for hiking
  16. Hello everyone! I have been using a iphone to hunt for caches but now want the real thing! I've been looking at gps devices for a few days now, read different articles and am even more lost than when I started as to what GPS to buy!!!! I need it to have a detailed base maps but don't want to pay for TOPO maps (expensive) so it needs to work with either opensource maps or these free maps (http://sites.google.com/site/talkytoasteruk/ukmaps) I would like it to have expandable memory I'm thinking of either Garmin eTrex Vista HCx Handheld GPS Garmin eTrex Venture Can you recommend a good one which you have used yourselves? I hope I've explained what I need so please help Thanks!!!!
  17. im thinking of doing a camping/caching week later on in the year, dones anyone know a good location to camp/cache and walk to another camp site, keep doing the same for a week? I'm currently living in kent so the furthest I would go is the lake district
  18. I've heard some people are getting bored of find caches which are under stones/sticks as they are easy to find, there are new types of caches which these geocachers hunt but aren't really in the uk atm. (navicaches and terracaches) They are meant to be more difficult but who knows... personally I enjoy walking and finding caches is just a bonus. I don't set out at the start of the day to find them but like today I was looking around church's as I am getting married next year. I pulled out my iphone, looked for the nearest cache (normally in the church) did it and my partner and I went to do the next thing she had planned for the day. So if I find a cache which is hidden under sticks/stones or in ivy which is growing up a tree/wall it doesn't bother me. I just enjoy finding them if they are near by where ever I am. I've only just started hiding caches and I've deliberately made them so they aren't under sticks/stones, I don't make them easy to find to make the hunt more rewarding when its found. I also think, that sometimes the reward is just having a nice walk and discovering new places regardless of finding the geocache or not
  19. and surely there should be a rule as to how many trackables can be in a cache
