  1. Well folks the cache has been placed. thanks for all your replys. congrats to the ftf of my new cache and good luck to all who hunt it.
  2. OK folks I have a new cache in the works and I'm looking for suggestions on a first finders prize. Prize range is $15 and under and anything goes as long as it meets groupspeek regulations. Please post your suggestions and the cache will be out soon it almost done.
  3. Is there any camping in this park? Although with all the night caching I doubt there'd be much sleeping anyways. CEC and GHAGAFAP come to mind here.
  4. well dec 31 was the final day and according to the web site the names have been drawn. so, who won, and what did you win?
  5. 10L hydration pack. carries 2L of water and there's plenty of room for the rest of the stuff. and when the bladder is out there's tons of room for all the excess stuff i tend to carry. If i ever grow out of my gear head stage i'm sure i'll be able to carry less stuff.
  6. All it does is re-write over the base map which is no big deal because like sanhedrin said mapsource has way more detail. you can always go back later and re-install the base maps if you really wanted to, but i don't think you'll ever really do it.
  7. ya thats about it, grab your lights. BRING SOME SPARE BATTERIES. and go have a blast. but be careful it gets addicting. Happy hunting.
  8. Sounds like April 2 I'll be in Barrie. Count me in. I look forward to caching up there both during the day and at night.
  9. sounds like an interesting event. I'll be there if I can being ski season and all.

    Pq's

I do get them zipped and when i try to download them a error message comes up that says it can't axcess the page and to try back later. maybe i'll send an email to hotmail and see what they say. thanks jeremy
  11. I may suggest posting this in the regional forums so some one in your area may see this. Some people only look at their region. Secondly if you have some specific questions Please post them here as well so we can help you the best we can. Good luck with the unit. I'm sure once you get use to it you won't be disappointed. they are great little units.

    Pq's

for the last two weeks I have not been able to download any of my PQ's out of my email box. I use hotmail. Now I don't think its hotmail because everything else works. but the last 3 or 4 PQ's that have been sent havn't been able to be downloaded. Any Idea what may be causing this?
  13. A lot of us like to cache at night. I was curious to see what lights people like to use and how many cachers out here are flashlight finatics like myself. My list so far: Stock AA Mag AA Mag with Opalec Newbeam led conversion Rayovak head lamp w/ red led, white led and a main beam. I carry all of these lights and spare batteries for all, at times i feel like a little power plant with all the batteries I have on me.
  14. For under $20 the Garrity 2 LED 5 function headlamp is pretty good or for around $40 the Petzl Tikka Plus (I have one coming from MEC). Haven't tested either for nite caching but the Garrity came in very handy at the weekend when helping out at a local outdoor event when the lights went out and we were hunting around in the dark for the fuse box. I got to be the FTF. For other Christmas ideas don't forget the hiking stick. Have found a couple of caches buried under leaves or snow by poking around with the stick until you hear the satisfying sound of metal tip on tupperware. And for stocking stuffers pens that write in wet log books. Pilot G-2's work well as do Uni-Ball Powertanks or you can go up market and get a Fisher space pen (I lose too many to make the latter a good option) And I do like my 180's Exhale Gloves with a vent so you can blow on your hands to keep them warm without taking your gloves off or putting down your GPSr (and they make good ear warmers too) where did you get your 180 gloves, those convertable running gloves look kinda cool.
  15. soon as read the first line of the post thats where I thought it should go and is where i would put it.
  16. Also another little gift. A pedometer, most gps can tell you how far you've travelled but its nice to see how you've walked in a day of caching.
  17. I have a petzl zoom, its rather good for distance and general area lighting, batteries where a bit of an issue with the old 4.5v battery but i believe the new ones run on 3 or 4 AA. cost was about $40 my newest headlamp (thanks to B&B for poiting this little guy out) is a Rayovak LED and incandesent head lamp. it has two red leds as to not interfer with night vision when more light is needed, one white led for close up/ general use and the incandesent for more throw. one down fall i found is that you cand focus the incadesent light, but hey for $20 i'm no complaining its a good little light. it runs on three AAA I got mine at Walm*rt. but they can be found else where for the same price. Also you can get a cool little mod for a AA maglite that turns it into a LED light which is really nice. EDIT: i just found out you can adjust the incandesent light on the Rayovac. which makes it even nicer. EDIT OF THE EDIT: with more testing the adjustablity of the incandesent light is useless.
  18. rubbing alcohol works well my first choice. hair spray works too.
  19. maps maps and more maps, I have a map of pretty much everywhere i've gone. I can sit around with a map for hours, yup it would bore some people but I can do it. Yes i do love maps too, ah feels much better to come out about that.
  20. you have to switch between the two sets of maps. you can only view one at a time. to switch go to map setup, it shoudl be in there.
  21. quick field way of opening a pipe cache is to use a chain link fence. stick the square end in the fence (of course you have to have the right size of pipe cap for this to work) and turn the container and presto a fence wrench.
  22. I have no idea. But that sure is cool.
  23. 2AA mini mag for me. Just remember what ever you get you have to carry spare batteries, might be wise to find a light that uses batteries you already carry instead of having to carry around bunch of different size batteries.
  24. Saw that the antenna ball is expected to come out, does any one know when they will be out and secondly when they will in Canada?
