  1. It is in your account details/change... you need to copy the location of the souvenir to the source area of your profile. ummm...I see you have nothing currently....you can start there....add something to your profile...
  2. But...if you move the map, you will have to refresh...and refresh...and refresh....etc...............
  3. It is on the beta maps.. 'personalization' is not right...it needs to be refreshed. that is not the way it use to be. it is broken!! still...!! U just have to wait till GS fixes it ...or not...
  4. HI I started with geocaching a week ago and thought it was really fun. **************************************** Nice job...LOL...you started a week ago? Not a PM? Nice build. Depends on where you live...and the LEO folks there. If you hide it real good, I see no problema...
  5. Some Earthcaches are a hassle. You can decide. I have skipped some in National Parks...I make up for it outside of the park with traditionals. You decide.
  6. The third post tells you. You are a PM so that should be no problem. You need a computer of course.
  7. If you are really going to get serious about geocaching, get the pro gear. Garmin and Delorme are popular. I use a Garmin Nuvi..car GPSr to get me there. Your smartphone might do the the job here, but my NUVI will just about take you from site to site [think 3-4 caches an hour..more if you can find them faster].
  8. I would recommend GSAK [$30--free to try]. I also have tried "easy gps" [free], but only use GSAK currently. The reason is that I load three Gpsrs at a time..plus I use the pilotsnipe macro for the NUVI. All these strange terms can be "googled"... I load a little under a 1000 caches at a time [i like to save room for creating some waypoints..maybe 10 or 15]. On GSAK, I can filter out the terrain 3 AND higher for example, so I can fit into the 1000 WP limit my GPSrs have. That way I can load as much as I need and stay within the limits of the GPSr. Note: I have not experimented with smartphone capabilities in spur of the moment caching.
  9. I have a pn40 and I will say their tech support is excellent. I think they had a firmware update for that model also...but I am sure they would have told you that. edit: I saw that they mentioned the firmware in your post.
  10. I would buy the PN-40 unless the Dakota 20 has a 3d compass. The pn-40 is easy to use [my wife uses it]...it has a bright visible screen in sunlight..[backlight of course]....a little power hungry though ..but never have gone down if you recharge after every use...[NiMHs of course is extra]. I would test them...delorme is buttons...and the Dakota is touch screen.... Enough said..both are paperless. I use GSAK [$30].
  11. For three caches, I would just draw a map. And like you I would just pen it in. In the field I can use the map in the PN-40 also. You can get a "snipping tool" for XP as well. [which is a better screen shot tool..google it]
  12. quick reply...get the usb.. serial is way old even on windows...
  13. IMHO--I will recommend Garmin or DeLorme PN-40 or 60.
  14. Welcome also...be prepared to get dirty... My friend dprovan just got 1100 cache finds in his first year! I was not close here.
  15. see my post...i have a pn40...but the 60 is mor' betta...my wife usually carries it...I use a Garmin...a little faster and just as accurate.. edit...all the "pros" I've ever met use the classic Garmin 60Csx. edit again--my pn40 cost 250$ on close out...pn60 for 200 is better...but the 40 is good enough....
  16. I use the handheld workhorses because I can change the batteries...AAs...trying going for 30+ caches on a smartphone....some cachers are going for the century mark in one day... edit--spelling
  17. I used the c:geo ...but the real GS one for 10 bucks works much better. Don't be cheap...I tried...but not the real cigar. My droid is not as good as yours so it made a difference. No sub for the real workhorses..a Garmin Vista HCx...a PN40...and a NUVI...all running pocket queries..... Smartphones are not accurate--'specially if there are no cell towers.
  18. I see you have No finds and no hides. Was the only reason for creating an account for writing this topic? I would say YOU try finding AT LEAST 1 geocache and then lets see where your opinion goes. "It is trying to tell a stranger about Rock and Roll...".
  19. There are a lot of posts already, but I wanted to use a cliche. "It is trying to tell a stranger about Rock and Roll...".
  20. On Windows 7 or Vista...try the snipping tool!! Open a copy of Word and create your own printable map! But to answer your original post...I think they have changed the maps for good. I am still try to figure out the best attack to do a printout for an area. With the snipping tool, you can copy and paste the main map and created a numbers legend.
  21. the ipod touch is useless...no 3G or satellite in the field. Save the 10 bucks for the app. I tried it..see my other post...I got the LG Optimus V instead and parked the ipod touch. No substitute for a handheld with paperless information. Plus a NUVI with paperless. Those are my workhorses. It is about power consumption. Smartphones will run out of juice in the field. Real handhelds use AA batteries and you can carry extras. But usually they last all day [20 plus finds...or more if you have the energy]..
  22. Google "LG Optimus V"...it is a smart phone. Unlimited data for 25 buck/month. Get the real geocaching app for Android...that is a start. then...25 bucks for premium membership for the pocket queries feature. After that get a PN-60...or PN-40...or Dakota... have fun.... Then just buy gas. Oh yeah...get a NUVI so you can figure out how to drive there.
  23. DITTO...I use the knife and screwdriver sometimes also...mine is a 2.5 inch Gerber. Plus I am a IT/computer tech, so I use it on the electronics also. I carry it nerd style, clipped to my belt along with keys and my badge.
