  1. it looks like tupperware but not a lock and lock should hide nicely
  2. What I dont understand is... 1 you ask for help 2 when your questions are answered you argue with the answers 3 several of the people that answered you questions are reviewers
  3. for the same reason you should keep away from playground equipment in parks I really dont want to explain "I was geocaching, not stalking kids"
  4. I've come across one of those. They just housed it inside a (larger) cache container. Yeah, I thought of that, but was afraid someone might mistake it for swag an remove it. I suppose if I wrote LOG on it in sharpie on the back it might still work. If you use this, or something similar, you'll get people who just "sign" the outside of the container. I'm assuming that you won't want to allow such "Finds" to stand, so you might want to make that clear in the cache description, and be prepared to audit the logbook periodically. make it a multi put that maze thing in a container, hide it instead of a log book put in a paper with coordinates to the next stage where the log book is that would keep people from signing the outside of the container
  5. People worry too much about coming into contact with "Hazardous" materials Many times materials are listed as hazardous but only after long term contact or certain kinds of said material. ie asbestos, there are 2 kinds of asbestos long fiber and short. Long fiber is not dangerous at all. Short fiber is dangerous if you are breathing it in large quantities, such as when the twin towers fell and there were huge plums of dust traveling thru the city, or over time such as working in a building where it is falling from the ceiling for 20 years. Yesterday we were casting metal, I wore asbestos gloves, I breathed in some zinc fumes from the melted brass, not good, I also picked up a bar of lead. All hazardous materials, I should be dead. I am not saying dont respect hazardous materials, just lets not get crazy about it.
  6. I have never been disappointed it the crap swag I have found in other peoples caches I dont expect much, even though I enjoy going thru it. I put out my first cach with swag last Nov 5 months later I return to check on the container. just to see how it withstood the winter. I was highly disappointed in what was traded? I had 5 or 6 items worth about a dollar a piece. I return to find 2 plastic toys a nickle and a foreign coin One of the toys was cool the other was broken. The nickle was put there by a cacher that leaves a nickle in all the caches he finds, almost as a signature item. So that is 4 items that didnt get traded just taken
  7. Usually, when you see "stealth required " it mean there are alot of non playing people( generally referred to as muggles) in the area. We dont want to openly draw attention to the fact that something is hidden in the area, because it might go missing.
  8. Kayleo Thanks for keeping us updated. I was wondering if you had the chance to talk to the DA and tell him you side before the trial Moose Mob Thanks for keeping this quip free I made my first post to the other thread when I saw it was open asking the outcome and got a snarkie reply
  9. ok the thread is unlocked, I assume that means something was decided in court. any idea what the verdict was That is being discussed in the serious thread. This one has been reserved for quips and snarks and such. thanks for the link ... i noticed the quips and snarks and such, already
  10. ok the thread is unlocked, I assume that means something was decided in court. any idea what the verdict was
  11. the next cach i hide will require that no store bought writing utensil be used to sign the log
  12. 100 seemed like a big deal when I hit it When I noticed I was approaching my 1 year anniversary I thought 200 would be a fine mark. With the planned trip next weekend I am thinking 250 in the first year will be pretty cool.
  13. there are alot of hides that can be spotted from 50 yards away we went to a part last week and there was a lonely tree in the middle of the field and the gps was pointed right at it when we were 50 ft away we could see the pile of sticks... that is not a good hide the same day the gps is point 10 ft off the trail there were at least 5 fallen logs in a 30 ft radius it took some searching to find that that was a decent hide I have started hiding my caches so there are multiple places the cach could be hidden at ground zero and dont forget altitudes
  14. there is a long thread about pvc pipe for cach containers some flaming going on but after you sift thru it all some good infoMy Webpage
  15. experiment 1 ok it was unintentional but i left pvc container sitting on my picnic table upright and it rained and fill with water I dont think the lid was screwed on as tight as it could be but you cant trust every one to tighten them down that much so now it is sitting out there with the lid down
  16. It all comes down to the old expression... when in Rome, do as the Romans If I go to France and try to cach I expect the page to be in french, If I go to Mexico I expect it to be in spanish The majority of the people finding a cach will be from that country It should be convenient for them not someone visiting their country
  17. sicne I was about to hide a cach made out of the above parts, and have already purchased them the question is... will it keep dry? does it keep drier if the cap is up or down? the plan was to put it in a hollowed out log cap down and set the log down so it looked like a stump would it keep drier if i put a vent hole in it?
  18. while out caching this weekend we had one that was giving us gz at the ne corner of a building and the cach was on the sw corner, about 40 ft away i was about to give up on it and was milling about when the name of the cach gave me a big clue where the cach was
  19. Sometimes the term geocoin is confused with personal coins or path tags. Personal coins or path tags are markers people make or buy to represent themselves and place them in caches the like. People collect and trade them
  20. First are you sure they were destroyed, or are you assuming they were destroyed? Depending on placement or if the cach was an ammo box, it could have survived a control burn. If you found a melted pile of plastic and you could tell it was a cach, I would log it as a find. I have found nanos with full log books and still log them as a find even though I couldnt sign
  21. I found a cemetery cach last year and this was in the description There are thousands of abandoned cemeteries just like this across the US, and every year they fall into deeper disrepair. You can help preserve the knowledge about an abandoned cemetery by registering it at the cemetery transcription library called interment.net maybe they will have a list of all the old ones in your area
  22. I started with a triton was and still am very happy with its performance I didnt like having to down load the gpx file then transferring it to a program. then loading it into the gpsr. The tritons are paperless caching units I went to a garmin because of it ease of use just a click and the loc file goes strait to the gpsr. of course no descriptions or hints with the low end garmins
  23. I would bet there is a premium member only cach nearby that he cant see and that is why his cach keeps getting sent back
  24. Ive glued magnets to the outside of an water proof match container using an epoxy. It has been out there 6 months so far and holding up good . I am about to do another like that.
