  1. So, besides buying the unit one must purchase a new OS if your MAC is older than a year and a half. So cool, so Mac user friendly...NOT
  2. I found something today that might or might not help with explorist gc download problems, profile/account details/at bottom of page is your preferences/click change and then change GPS version to 1.0.1. Just a thought. I can't change it for myself as mine is purely ooc.
  3. I've found too many of the same sort of problems all over the internet. Run Forrest, run...away from this model. I am sending mine back to the retailer.
  4. Thanks for your reply. The unit now is on an endless and unstoppable loop upon start up. I have reset, removed batteries, etc. I have tried to use it with my PC and still it does not work, It is a lemon and I am returning it.
  5. I have this same problem. I got a new Explorist GC for Christmas and I've spent two fruitless days trying to download cache info from this site to my GPS. Every time I try to "Send to GPS" it says I need to install the Communicator for Mac plugin, which I've downloaded several times. (I've restarted the browsers after installing, both Safari and Firefox, and I've restarted my computer again too... nothing.) This link: http://www.magellangps.com/Magellan-Communicator-for-Mac appears to show that Geocaching and Magellan have a plugin for us new (first-time) users to download .loc files (and .gpx files) to the device, but I've literally spent HOURS trying and failing. Okay, I'm an idiot and missing something, but what? Thanks for listening to my frustrated whine, but I really wanted this to work today. Were you ever able to get it working? I was having the same problems but now it is just in the endless restart loop of death. If these are not isolated explorist gc problems then why does this piece of crap keep getting good reviews?
  6. I have spent nearly two days trying to get this junk unit to work and I have come to the conclusion that this thing is a piece of crap. I would never recommend this for anyone. First I was unable to move caches to the unit via my mac. I am not stupid, have been geocaching for years and am computer savy. In the past I have used Garmin and treo for paperless caching. Time consuming though so I thought this little unit would fit the bill. LOL. I updated the unit via my pc with the Magellan update and now it is stuck in and endless loop. I cannot do anything with it despite resetting and every type of restart imaginable. Gosh, I am so frustrated with this thing!
  7. I checked and double checked and I was placing them in the right spots so i took the unit to my pc and updated it. Now it is in an endless loop and is stuck on startup screen. I have reset it and removed the battteries in every combination of hook up un hook up. I can't even get it to connect to the pc anymore. I am thoroughly disgusted. Should have stayed with Garmin. I will probably send this back if my emails to Magallan are unsatisfactory (as I somehow suspect they will be). BTW this product does not have a removable card.
  8. Please, I have spent hours on this and I am not a newbie. I wish you were here with me to share in my frustration with this units incompatibility. I have a mac os 10.5.8 and purchased this product. I am not naive to computers or geocaching but I must say that this is the most frustrating experience I have had in a long time. I downloaded the manual from Magellan website and followed directions to a tee. I have tried dragging and dropping single gpx files and pocket query gpx files from geocaching.com (while they show up on the unit when it is connected and visable on my desktop, when disconnected there is nothing there), I have tried using the explorist browser plug in and geocaching.com (which is consistantly not recognized after installation), I have tried several different programs to upload waypoints (gps babel, mac caching, mac gps pro). Nothing works. It REALLY shouldn't be this difficult.

Please help me to get this unit to recognize my gpx files. It REALLY shouldn't be this difficult. Thank You, Susan Sinigaglio
  10. I just got an explorist gc and am really having a hard time getting my caches on it via my Mac running os 10.5.8. I have tried it singly via the browser plug in but it never recognizes it and keeps insisting it is not installed. I have tried dragging the gpx files from queries straight into the geocaches folder on the explorist...nothing. I was reading the post regarding this issue but I had one question. It says: -Double click the zip file and choose to expand it to your desktop (again, so it is easy to find) - Double click the expanded GPX file folder to show its contents. To show the contents you must use a program. Which program are you using? Thanks, Susan
  11. I have generated pocket queries for the last couple of days but they are not sending to me. I have triple checked the email address I have listed to send them to, I have tried inputting a different email, I have checked my trash and spam. Although generated, the query is not getting sent. I would hate to download gpx for each and every cache. That is a pain. What do I do next? FYI the query is a new one, I have tried it as a one time only and have also checked days to be sent but it is just not happening. Also, my old weekly update quit sending to me a while ago (months) but I was unable to cache so I wasn't really worried.
  12. FYI the geocacher "Dino Digger and Dad" was arrested for kiddie porn. For more info go here http://wikisposure.com/Wolfman BTW. I've always posted picts of my kids. Never had a problem. They were always watched over and their whereabouts known to me.
  13. I have a solution. How about if we take $5 million out of the over $200 million dollar free ride that is being given to private industry to fund stem cell research. They wouldn't even miss it!
  14. Lums Pond State Park in Delaware has decided to remove all caches because people might destroy the delicate environment. I thought this was rather funny since one of the caches I found there was partially accessed via a newly bulldozed path (the bulldozer was still parked out ther) about 10 feet wide by 1/2 mile long so far.
