  1. Thank you for your responses. I understand the idea of an offset cache, and It seems fair to place a cache a short distance away from the coordinates, as long as the description indicates so. I don't think it is fair to place a standard cache with a difficulty rating of 1.5 between 30 and 40 feet from the coordinates. The caches I am referring to obviously have the wrong coordinates. It is not just a matter of the GPS being off. Without using a GPS, I can look at the satellite map and see where the coordinates are, and where the actual cache is, way off from each other. One cache is even around the corner of a building from where the coordinates are. Thank you for your help.
  2. I have been seeing some recently-placed, simple caches that are more than 30 feet from the posted coordinates. I believe this is done purposefully. Is this considered ethical? I always try to write my posted coordinates as close as possible to the actual cache. Thank you for your help.
  3. I enjoy looking at the personal statistics kept for geocaching. I think one important part is missing. There should be an average latitude and longitude for all caches found by that member. As an example, if we regularly find caches near and around our home area, the average center point would be at about our home. Then, when we find a few caches across the country, that would pull our center point over some. It seems like this would be easy for the website to calculate. What are your thoughts? Thank you.
  4. Thank you for your reply. Eventually my wife's souvenirs were corrected. However, neither my, nor my wife's awarded favorite points were ever added to the Cache carnival total. It's not really important to us, but it should be correct.
  5. In my own Geocaching account, I have found that Cache Carnival seems to be working correctly. I have earned the correct amount of souvenirs. My wife's account, known as ADKLighthouseKeeper, is not being kept track of properly. There are two problems. My wife's account shows her with 39 points. This is probably correct based on the caches she has found. Therefore, she should have earned Koln at 10 points, and Nice at 25 points. She has not been given those souvenirs. Another problem is that she was also given two favorites in just the past week for two of the caches she has hidden. She should have earned 50 more points for the favorites. Therefore, she also should have earned Venezia. Are any of you having these kinds of problems? What can be done about it? Thank you
  6. That is strange. I would have thought it would look the same in both versions of the app. I suppose I should not worry if the waypoints are out of order, it just doesn't look nice. Thank you for posting the pictures from both versions of the app.
  7. On the website, my waypoints are in the correct order. On the Geocaching app, they are not. The waypoints still work, but it appears as though I did not proofread them well and they are out of order. Since they are correct on the website, I seem to be unable to do anything about it.
  8. I have just created my first multi-cache. Everything seems to work fine, except that one of the waypoints is not listed in the proper order in the geocaching app. When I sign-in on the website to edit it, it is in the correct order. I cannot figure out how to put it in the proper order for the app. I have even gone to the point of erasing the waypoints and typing them in again. The problem may be with the "Lookup" number. There are five stages, and the fourth stage has no "lookup" number. I do not know how to add one. The fourth stage is always listed in the app after the final stage. The cache I am referring to is GC84VHZ, B-36 Peacemaker Thank you for your help.
  9. Thank you for your comments. I am glad to see you agree with my opinions. I am relatively new to geocaching and was not sure about travelbug etiquette.
  10. I would like to see opinions about taking a travelbug from a cache without leaving one in return. Quite honestly, I always do. I believe travelbugs are meant to move. If I take a travelbug from one cache, I leave a travelbug in a different cache. I have seen some caches indicate that you must leave a travelbug if you take one. I avoid these caches. If a travelbug were left for every travelbug taken, then the same caches would contain the same amount of travelbugs all the time. I would like to see various caches have travelbugs at times, and at other times be empty. Please let me know your opinions. Thank You.
  11. Your photographs look good. I just posted one similar to this. I hope people post some pictures of my travelbugs I have released.
  12. Thank you for explaining this. I found the correct method of posting a picture. Yes Cerberus1, I understand the importance of not showing the tracking code. Thank you for reminding everyone reading this. I think it could be a lot of fun seeing pictures of a trackable travelling around, especially when the background is particular to its location.
  13. I recently found a trackable that is well-travelled. The original owner's log indicates "Please post pictures". That looks like a good idea, however, there are no other pictures of this trackable, and I don't see any way to post pictures. If this is possible, how do I do it? Thank you for your help.
  14. Thank you for all of your nice explanations. The answers to my questions are about what I expected. It would be nice if more people logged trackables as they should. I am sure many do not know what they are supposed to do, and some just don't care. One of you mentioned the "one weekend and done" mentality. That type of thing is a problem with numerous different activities, not just geocaching. Suppose someone with good intentions takes a trackable from a cache, but does not log that he took it. When he places it in another cache will he be able to log that he placed it? If the trackable travels around from cache to cache, but is unlogged in the app, how will anyone in the future be able to log it in to where it has ended up? I appreciate all of your responses.
  15. I am relatively new to Geocaching. I am most intrigued by trackables. Unfortunately, my experience with them has been very disappointing. I have now found four caches where the app indicated a trackable. There were no trackables. I placed one travel bug in an empty cache. Someone took it, indicating in their message when finding the cache, and yet the app still indicates my travel bug is there. I have two more travel bugs in my posession, but have found it very difficult to find caches large enough to hold them. I found the three travel bugs in caches that indicated there were no trackables. None of this makes sense. I cannot trust the app as to which cache has a trackable and which does not. I was thinking about buying some travel bugs, but it seems like a complete waste of money, based on my experiences so far. Please comment on your experiences with trackables. Are you able to keep track of most of them, or are they just gimmicks that disappear soon after placing them? I am enjoying finding caches, but trying to use trackables has been extremely disappointing. Thank you for your help.
  16. Thank you for explaining this. It makes a lot of sense now. In order to know the Tracking code, you must physically see the trackable. I can understand how some people would "fake it" if they knew the code.
  17. I am new to Geocahing and have recently "dropped" my first trackable. I understand the tracking number is listed on a trackable. I was also given a reference number. What is the difference? I am told not to make the tracking number public, but to only use the reference number in any correspondence I do. Please explain why it should be done in this manner. Thank you for your help. I am really enjoying this, and would like to gradually learn more about the interesting activity of Geocaching.
  18. Thank you for your help. Apparently the trackable I found had never been registered. I was able to register it, so now I will try to find a cahce to put it in. Although, a new question has formed: When I registered the trackable, it asked me if it should be "collectable". What does this indicate?
  19. I am new, and have found only three geocaches so far. On my third find, there were several "Travel Bugs" with serial numbers. I took one (I don't know the exact protocol about how many I should take). I have tried to log that I found it, so then I can place it somewhere else. I cannot figure out how to log it. On the geocache where I found the travel bug, it lists "no trackables". I have tried to contact the person who placed the cache, but they have not repsonded. Another person who found the cache after me says "the CO hasn't logged on for many years". What should I do? I would like to track my travel bug, and let it travel on, but I do not know how. As a side question: What do the three symbols indicate on the app? There is a heart, an upside down teardrop, and a picture of an insect. I think the insect indicates number of trackables currently at the cache. On the cache where I found the travel bug, the number next to the insect is zero. Thank you for your help.
