  1. Just tried again. Says the file name to download is "cache_details.aspx", not the "gcnumber.gpx" file that I normally download on the desktop. No worries. I'll just enter the coordinates by hand and just save the page as an html file for reference when I'm away from that wifi location. And on my computer, I normally download PQ's, use GSAK to export caches that I want to look for, and off I go. Thanks for trying to help
  2. Renaming the extension didn't work and I'm thinking it is indeed a browser incompatibility like Motorcycle Mama said. I was using Internet Explorer Mobile. Tried Opera and it would not download at all. Good thing I didn't pay for Opera and just let the trial expire. Firefox is currently working on a mobile version of its browser and I'm so looking forward to it when it comes out. I use Firefox on the desktop computer and I love it. I never use Internet Explorer on the computer and I hate its mobile version. But I can't seem to find any other browser for Windows Mobile 2003. The newer ones such as Skyfire only work for Windows mobile 5 or 6. The other way I get gpx files without using my computer is through pocket queries and downloading them on mobile outlook express, unzipping them, then loading them on Smache. No worries. So as long as I can view the cache page and just enter the coordinates manually, I'm good to go. I'll keep working on this issue though and will keep everyone informed if I make progress. Thanks for the responses, Jeanne and Motorcycle Mama.
  3. Figured I was patient enough to give this post a bump in hope of anyone answering my question above. Thank you
  4. I never had a problem with notifications. I use Roadrunner for my e-mail and Sprint for my cell. Got notifications on both without fail. As for the MMS thing, I don't need that so as long as I get the GCXXX number in the text. All I have to do is enter that number on the website which loads the cache page. I then download the gpx file and I'm good to go. Joe, I don't think Groundspeak is the problem. There are several freebie web e-mail addresses that you can use. There's yahoo, gmail, hotmail, rocketmail and many others. Keep trying a free e-mail service until you find the one that works for you. Good luck.
  5. That's too funny, Starbrand. At least the 4th time's the charm, right?
  6. Love the program. Only issue is getting the map to display the caches so that I know if it is north, east, south, or west. Right now, the cache could be displayed at the bottom of my location, indicating it should be south, for example, but in reality, it's actually north. So that's where I have my issues, but otherwise it's an awesome program and I'll continue to use it as it does not lag like Beeline does. Beeline was be about 30-40 seconds behind in the current coordinates and I would often have to stay in one place for 30-40 seconds so Beeline can catch up. But Smache is almost instant with my current location. As soon as I move, the numbers move too. Almost right away when I stop, so does the movement on the program. It rocks. I just have to figure out how to keep my map in a north-south-east-west layout and I'm good to go!
  7. Not all cache pages have those attributes set. My own cache has those icons but there are plenty of others who don't set their attributes. Just a matter of preference by the cache owner whether he wants to put attributes on his page or not. Either that or he is lazy to do so
  8. Dadgum. Those caches are just sick. I've only done no harder than 3/3's. If I was younger....maybe..but I'm am an old fart
  9. I have a Dell Axim x30 running Windows Moble 2003 which I use for caching and cache recordkeeping when I'm on the road. One day I was on the road and got a text message notice of a new cache in the area. Luckily I was near a wi-fi hotspot so I loggged on geocaching dot com and tried to download the gfx file of the new cache. The problem was, it was downloaded as an .aspx file. I could not import the file on Beeline. I had to enter the coordinates manually on Beeline. I didn't mind doing that, but it would be nice to be able to import a gpx file instead of having to enter the coordinates manually. So is it possible to download a gpx file on windows mobile when I'm near a wi-fi hotspot or am I stuck entering coordinates manually when using my Dell Axim? Or can an aspx file be converted to gfx somehow? Thanks in advance to those that reply.
  10. And if there is a plate that begins with "GC", who knows, that could be a cache ID.
  11. Simple how I got my name. I'm a bowler, my real name is Todd and I've bowled a 300 game not too long ago. Hence the name, Todd300.
  12. Didn't know that. Thanks for the link
  13. It's not often geocaching makes it in the local newspaper, but when it does, I find it quite newsworthy and it gives geocaching the publicity that it needs to thrive. It's how I got hooked onto geocaching myself as I read a similar article in another newspaper not long ago and thought it'd be fun to do myself. Here's a link to the article originally posted in the Green Bay Press Gazette from Green Bay, Wisconsin. http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/p...D=2009904260330 Anyone have their local papers write about geocaching, share your stories here please. Thanks
  14. I use my Pocket PC with a bluetooth GPS receiver for my caching hunts. The Pocket PC is a perfect cover as I often would have the GPSr hidden from view and use the Pocket PC and make it look like I'm going through files when actually I'm looking at the coordinates on the Beeline program. As I get closer, I look for muggles, then do my search if there is none. If there are some muggles, I pretend to drop something then make it look like I'm looking for what I drop.
  15. While we are on the subject of travel bugs and geocoins, I was wondering if any sporting goods retailers may carry them such as Dunham's, Dick's, Gander Mountain, etc. I know there is a list here, but none of them are retailers in my area. I would like to purchase them in person instead of ordering them online if I can help it, but I will order online f I have no other option. Thanks
  16. CTU!!! Get away from that cache!! That FTF is mine!!!!
  17. How about this..the seeker is talking on the phone, notepad and pen in hand like he's taking notes from his caller. The seeker then "drops" his pen and it rolls under the hiding place. Of course he has to get on his hands and knees to retrieve the pen - and to look for the suspected cache in the hiding place.
