  1. This is not true. Right. Busted by the fact-checkers! (See, this is why I'm looking for a *study*!) I'm not talking about battery packs. My Samsung Galaxy S4 can swap batteries. I have spare batteries with me that I have charged through an external charger, just like you do with any chargeable battery.
  2. My question too, I miss it.
  3. A TB hotel is supposed to collect and have TB's inside.
  4. Does someone have examples of good listing of a TB-page?
  5. Wat ik nooit begrijpen kan is dat een CO vaak niet wil vertellen welke tool je nodig hebt, als er sprake is van een tool. Hoe kun je als CO nou leedvermaak hebben dat een cacher voor niks bij een cache staat?
  6. An alternative for virtuals would be to place a TB-code somewhere (apply the tag, or engrave the code in a stone) and have it discovered. A car with a TB-sticker is an example.
  7. Does it have the same GPS chipset as my Samsung galaxy s4?
  8. Dat kun je doen met travel bugs. Timmer/spijkers/graveer ergens een TB-code en vraag om het te discoveren.
  9. The gps receiver is nice for convenience, but the real smartphone is more rugged, can sustain drops and bumps better, is water proof, and just geared toward outdoor use. You can't say any of that about your gps receiver. My current GPS has withstood 6 years of rugged outdoor use and it still works like new. I don't think I even had a smartphone 6 years ago. I think I'm on my third Galaxy, so they last two years at most and my previous phone had an annoying cracked screen for months while I waited out the time until I could upgrade. Some examples: Can you do that with a gps?

  11. Can a smartphone resist water? Yes, better than an Etrex: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIf9GdCzY_Y Can a smartphone resist drops and stone? Yes, better than an Etrex:
  12. I saw a challenge checker that seemed to do that. It had a a list of qualifying caches (not that every cache in the list had to be found) So a bonus cache can be turned into a challenge cache?
  13. A black car and a red car of different brands may still have the same motor inside.
  14. Across some i suppose but i'd bet there are varying degrees of difference between the "guts" of most devices. My older smartphone will work in a pinch but i sure wouldn't want to use it exclusively for geocaching. It's slow and it's not as accurate as the Garmin. I know that phones, especially newer ones, work much better than my antique, but i would also bet that few have the same electronics that dedicated gpsrs have.. Wrong. Check the SIRF page in wikipedia.
  15. Chipset is less than half the picture. I'm sure there are some significant differences in antenna design and efficiency between cell phones and handhelds. Source? Tests?
  16. No. Some gps chipsets and firmware is the same across some smartphones and some gps.
  17. Do you? I'm very interested to know. No I don't. That is just my point. My opinion is just as good or bad. No one knows.
  18. No, it is the opposite. When the weather is clouded, reception on smartphones is better than on a handheld gps. ... Bottom line: do you have a professional website with test results to confirm your claim?
  19. It would be nice when the "Found it!" logs on trackables would have more meaningful content than they have now.
