    Buying A New Gpsr

I have used the 60CS and the 76CS. The 76CS is a very good GPS and you won't go wrong if that is your choice, but for Geocaching I find the 60CS to be ideal. The main reason is the slightly smaller size of the 60CS. As for whether to get the electronic compass, I definitely recommend it. I have no problem with batteries. I purchased “Rayovac IC 15 minute” rechargeable batteries and they will last all day.
  2. Sorry, I know this is totally off topic but I just have to say those stickers are a great idea TrimblesTrek. Oh...Tim Horton Certificates...that is a good FTF item.
  3. I have personally never felt intimidated by the “regular posters”. Most try to be helpful. Some do post ignorant comments, for no apparent reason, but that’s just the way some people are. The “regular posters” that bother me are the ones that feel they must have at least one comment/reply to every topic.
  4. I don’t live near the Niagara Peninsula but I am in the area several times a year. I have to agree with the previous posts that you would need to diversify but an “outdoor store” with Geocaching goods would definitely be something I would check-out. If the prices could be kept competitive, so much the better. Having it near the QEW by Thorold Stone Rd., as was suggested, would be perfect for me.
  5. This is a great tool for checking if the Locationless Cache has been logged.Locationless Cache Analyzer
  6. I think the trick here would be more of what individual gets the credit for the find. Would it be member #1, #2,.... or the entire team. That would be the complicated part. Still, a good idea for teams or familys. Credit for the find would not be a problem under a “family Plan” as the members would have there own user names etc. What they would be sharing are the benefits of one Premium Membership e.g. PQ’s The real trick would be are they from the same family, household or whatever other criteria that would need to be met.
  7. 36 caches in a 13 miles radius of my home. Wish that was a little higher. Four of those are mine.
  8. Wow, sounds great, can’t wait to see it at the theater. Well, maybe I wait for the DVD. No, when it comes to network T.V... Don’t think I’ll get around to watching it. I’ll go caching instead.
  9. I agree, you should get some finds in before placing a cache. I also had about 50 finds. I new that I wanted to put out caches that should be somewhat interesting. But, if you’re like me and don’t have the greatest imagination in the world you need some help. I found that after caching in some other areas (500 miles away) I did some caches that I liked that were different than the ones in my area. I created similar caches in my area. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Thanks for reminding me I need to start thinking about some more.
  10. I agree. I also agree but if you must know. Try posting a note on your cache page asking the people watching your cache to e-mail you. Those watching will be emailed the note. If they don’t mind identifying themselves they will contact you if not then they want to remain anonymous.
  11. The idea of trading in a cache is to put something of at least equal quality in the cache as the item you take. What you do with the item you take is your business. If you wish to put a good quality item in the cache and take what you consider to be the lowest quality then, in your mind, you have improved the cache. If you wish to throw the item you took in the garbage, go for it. Edit: spelling
  12. I closed this thread because it is getting a little off topic and a new thread has been started that asks the question very well. Please go to "What new features would entice you...". Thanks for your responses
  13. I know this is not answering the question asked, since I asked it, but people have been listing there reasons for becoming Premium Members. It was actually after reading a topic like this one about the pros and cons of paying that I made my decision. I became a PM after about 6 months and 50 finds. It took me about that long to admit to myself that I real enjoyed this hobby. My initial reason for paying was to support this site. It was after this that I realized all the added benefits of being a PM. I feel that I have received ample return on my purchase. As to whether or not someone is getting rich I don’t care. I’m pretty sure someone is getting rich at Nike when I buy there shoes but I keep buying them. I’m glad it is optional to pay or not. It makes me feel even better that I joined of my own free will. Sorry, now back to the original topic
  14. Does the vista c use the serial port or a USB. Make sure you have the right port when it is searching for your device.
  15. How about a beacon in the GPSr that a searcher could use to find you if you became lost. Just one of those things I never thought about until reading about SBUX, a cacher from PA that is missing. Hoping for a happy conclusion to that.
  16. Thanks RK for keeping a running summary of the reasons.
  17. It seems to me that the only topics that are pointless are the ones that receive no responses. If someone cares enough to take the time to respond there must be a point to the topic. Like this topic.
  18. I am just asking this question for my own curiosity. I was wondering why cachers with more then 200 finds (totally arbitrary number I thought I would use) would choose not to get a premium membership? As that is an arbitrary number anyone with any number of finds should feel free to respond. I do fully understand and totally agree that this should be optional. I’m not about to go into the benefits of becoming a Premium Member, that can be found on this website, in the discussions here, or when ever you log another find. I am not judging anyone nor am I trying to convince anyone to buy a Premium Membership. Maybe some of your concerns will come to light and be rectified and you will choose to become a Premium Member.
  19. As you probably know there is a Garmin PDA/GPSr for like $700 but not too rugged! Very true, but I was looking for more geocaching specific. Rugged, GPSr, ability to view cache info and enter logs like when I use my PDA w/CacheMate. No need for all the other PDA features unless needed for geocaching.
  20. If its true that 50% of the people with a GPSr are using them for geocaching then there should be a market for having one unit with all the caching features of a GPSr (naturally with the previously mentioned features included) and a PDA combined into one unit. It would be nice to paperless cache with just a nice rugged GPSr and not need a PDA. Maybe after you receive enough ideas this thread should be sent to Garmin and Magellan.
  21. Ops! just saw there's a whole topic on just this.
  22. It would be nice to create a route and then be able to do a pq for caches within X miles of the route line. I was going on a trip and wanted to do some caching along the way and the easiest way I could find to locate caches was to move the Geocaching.com Map along the route I was taking and download the pages one at a time.
  23. Thanks PDOP's. I'm glad to see its being looked into. It doesn't look like I should hold my breath but maybe some day.
  24. Is there any chance of getting detailed maps of canadian caches like the US ones show when you click "Geocahing.com Maps" from a cache page?
  25. Thanks everyone for the excellent advice. I did decide to go with a palm. It seems that both are equally as good with the right software package. I’m going with GSAK and CacheMate. I’m looking forward to trying this out. I love gadgets. Thanks again. I’ll leave this open incase anyone has more help for others.
