  1. I don't even know what to call it...you know... the image or symbol of you when you post something...mine is signal the frog. It says "no image" and when I try to edit my profile, I don't see an option for this. Please help me not be so boring!
  2. I have stumbled into two homeless camps and thought to myself "I bet no one knows where I am...I barely know where I am. I wonder how long before my husband notices I didn't come home..." After several months of research, we got a boxer. He now goes to every cache...he has his own pack and sometimes roots around looking (although he has no idea why). We took him to doggie school so he walks well on the leash and can sit and wait when needed. He is a blast to have along.
  3. Just a quick note. If you want maps from different sources (say Ibycus's free topo maps in Canada, and one of streets from garmin. You have to send them from Mapsource at the same time, or one overwrites the other. I have loaded my street maps on to an SD card so when I load my Topo's for the day on to my CO 300 it won't wipe out or over write my street maps thanks, I got it all to work. the sun is out today..hoping to use it for the first time.
  4. Thank you to everyone for your help. I now have caches on my Colorado--sigh I spent over an hour on the phone with Garmin. They really don't know much about Geocaching. While on hold (so he could go find someone who knew about GSAK) I was poking around on tabs and found "setup Gps" and then "send". The Garmin guy was really impressed. OK! Now I have it all ready...and it is hailing....groan!!
  5. I just don't get it. I recently got a Colorado 300 and it has been one headache after another. It took forever to load the map program and register/unlock everything. Now that things are unlocked, I don't know how to send a pq to the unit. I have GSAK, but I don't understand how to do this. I just want to go out caching. This was supposed to make everything so easy... How do I send my caches to the Colorado? Please use simple small words....evidently I know nothing....yep, dumb as a box of rocks. Got GSAK, got the cord, got the pq....now what??
  6. Ok, I have had my Colorado for almost a week. It took forever to figure out how to load the map program but we did. It is registered. But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to load my pocket queary into the stupid thing. I have GSAK, but it doesn't list a Colorado as one of the options to export to. I am so frustrated. This was supposed to make everything easier. Can someone please give me some help other than what is listed on the Garmin website (and also linked here) because that doesn't work..... I just want to geocache, and I can't...so frustrated.
  7. Hi Everyone. I have a new Colorado 300. I tried to download the maps program off the Garmin site--what a nightmare! So, I went to REI and bought a Garmin map program. It is a cd. I am assuming that I install it on my computer, load it onto an sd disk and put it in the Colorado?? Help!
  8. My wonderful family gave me a Colorado 300 for my birthday! I was hoping it would be a lot easier to work, but I am having trouble getting it to communicate with my computer. I installed the MapSource Trip and Waypoint Manager, but nothing is happening. The map that is on it, only has freeways and a few roads. I want to have the full map program so all I need is my GPS. How do I get started?? Please help me, the sun is coming out tomorrow and I want to go caching with my new toy!!
  9. Newbie here too! Welcome. Try watching Geosnippits on Youtube. Tons of questions answered.
  10. Great job!! I can't wait to see the movie!! We love Geosnippits!! FYI: When you are talking about the first cache, you say Portland, Oregon with a "gone" sound, but we say Oregon with a "gun" sound. I woldn't mention it except it might matter in the storyline of the movie. Not a big deal unless it is set in Oregon or Washington and then we would all know. Kinda like if they called you Headhardhead--we would all know. Again we loved it and watched it twice. Thanks for all the hard work you do. We just watched the Geosnippits about loading pq to a palm pilot. You should have seen us. We would pull up one window, watch a step of Geosnippits, pause it, pull up the other window, follow your instructions, go back and watch Geosnippits etc. It was, as you said, really hard the first time, but well worth the effort. I never would have tried that on my own, but now I feel like a pro! Thank you again for all your hard work! You have helped us love our new..."game, sport, obsession"
  11. TFTC thanks for the cache TNLNSL took nothing left nothing signed log Swag are the treasures inside the cache to trade for. Welcome to the fun!
  12. Here is what I did I went to the map that shows all the caches and in the upper right corner there is a button that says create pocket Query. I didn't mark any of the choices (just give me anything) and it sent it right away! Keep trying and ask lots of questions. Good Luck!
  13. it worked!! thank you all for your help! I had not agreed to the thing... good grief!!
  14. ok, the first time, I tried all the fancy filters and it said something about zero caches. I thought it had zero so far...groan so then I went to the area on the Google map that I want to cache at today and hit the make a pq button. no filters, just make the silly pq. It said it found 500. Yeah!! but, it still has not sent it to my email.... yes I checked Sat. I have the geosnippits how to paperless paused on my computer ready to follow the instructions (thanks Headhardhat!!) all I need now is the email!!!! When will it get here???? What is taking so long???? it is still not here!!! I want to go caching.... can anyone tell me how long I should wait until I just give up and start printing?

  16. so if it is not here... I did something wrong?
  17. I just requested my first pq...when will it show up?? Can I watch it load? For those of you who helped us before, we are gonna try to connect our palm pilot...just need the silly pq.
  18. I keep seeing "geocaching events" and I was wondering how to find out about these...
  19. These have been so great for us newbies!!! Our only complaint is that there aren't enough of them...Please keep making more. We love them. Great job with this new one. Very funny. We just found some lock and locks at Walmart and are ready to paint them like we learned from other Geosnippits. Thanks!!
  20. Can someone please tell me what the difference between a Colorado 300 and a Colorado 400t? I want to go paperless. The only difference I can see is the topographical map program. Oh, and the $100 price difference...
  21. ok, what kind of crazy person wrote the instructions for my Garmin etrex H? I don't understand how to put in cache coordinates. I have read the manual three times. I think I enter them as waypoints but how??? anyone have this and willing to teach a newbie??
  22. I didn't know my GPS was fancy enough to load caches....Groan!!!! It only cost about $99. It is black and white...no streets. How do I do this?? Going to read the instructions again.
  23. Ok, I have a basic GPS (or GPSr) and it doesn't do anything special...just coordinates. Each time we want to go catching, we pull up the google map from Geocaching.com, pull up the windows of nearby caches (the ones without the smileys), hit the print with no logs link, print, yes print, yes I am sure. Then we staple the info page and map together, put them in a notebook with a general printed streetmap and off we go. We use a lot of paper and ink We get lost quite often. When we arrive, we have to take the paper out into the field to search. When we get back home, we cannot remember anything other than yes we found or no we didn't. We spend a lot of time trying to remember which one was the hide we loved and will talk about all week and which one was the one that was wet and rusted. Did we put the travel bug in this one?? Ok, so the time has come to upgrade... Don't worry, I am not going to ask which gps unit is the best...seen enough of those threads already... Here is what we have: Garmin etrex Verizon LG Dare Tungsten E2 And we won a drawing for a free ITouch, but it hasn't come yet So, I don't want to waste paper.... I don't want to go to each park with five devices hanging off me... Paperless sounds great...but am I missing something? I load in the pocket query, use my phone as a map to get me there, stick my phone in my pocket for emergencies, use my etrex to find the cache, use my pda to see the clues... There has got to be an easier way.... Do you all really take this many electronic devices out into the rain and trek through the forest? I will have to get another job just to afford my cheap hobby. thoughts?
  24. Where can I get a pamphlet to hand out?? We are a large family and stealth isn't our strong suit.
