  1. I heard of a tale of a woman that runs around here placing condoms in caches all the time...except she puts holes in them first. Now I have to ask...who in their right mind would even consider using a condom found in a cache? How painfully stupid do you have to be? Don't put your valuable condoms in the cache. They're just being wasted and my grandkids don't need to be exposed to them yet, they are only little kids. Q: Why do you put condoms in a geocache? A: Because I am a social retard, and painfully stupid.
  2. You don't believe sex in a public park is wrong? Not only is it wrong, but it is illegal. Call me Mr. Intolerant
  3. That happens to women all the time in bars. What's your point? Are you saying geocaching in a public park with my kids is no different than being in a bar?
  4. Actually it's the other way around. It's white people who are not welcoming of black people. Ever heard of "white flight"? Why don't you give us your definition of "white flight". This should be very interesting.
  5. So why is it that you feel "uncomfortable" in minority neighborhoods? Do you also feel uncomfortable when someone from the minority neighborhood walks past your house? With an attitude like that I hardly think they can walk in your neighborhood without fear. Unbelievable. well, maybe it's the fact that when i listen to my police scanner there are several street names in minority neighborhoods that are always mentioned when shots are fired. i have even been warned by minority friends to not be in those areas unless they are with me. i live in a mixed area out in the country where anyone can walk down my street and not have a problem. Don't call them minority neighborhoods....call them high crime areas.
  6. If you're a homophobe or intolerant, then I'm sure you'll find a reason to mention it, or take pictures, or write down license plate numbers..... Yes, I am intolerant. I can't stand it when grown adults think having sex in a public place is perfectly OK. It isn't. I also think that if someone approached me, uninvited, and inquired about sex, I'd call the law and do whatever I could do peacefully to make this public place an undesirable place for these activities to occur. If the person in question assaulted me, they're going to need a good health insurance plan, one that covers advanced stage lead poisoning. Having an open mind doesn't mean letting your brain fall out.
  7. Not all Army/Navy surplus stores sell ammo cans that have SEALS. Inspect your ammo can purchase and make sure the weatherproof seal is still intact. A lot of them leak like mad without the seals.
  8. How big is your stamp? I have taken a one inch diameter dowel rod and sawed off a 2 inch long piece and just rubber cemented the stamp to one end of the small piece of dowel. You'll still need to carry around a way to ink the thing though.
  9. Way to go Switchdoc...now you'll have to cope with the daily urge to "Feed the Need". Hahahahha
  10. 1. Pizza 2. Cookies 3. Cheez Whiz Oh wait...that's what I like to find in my backpack.....
  11. Hey Arch...welcome to the hobby! Isn't Bardstown the home of "Maker's Mark"? YUMMM
  12. The fall in Indiana is such a beautiful time, we are thinking about calling a cacher get-together at Johnson County Park in central Indiana. Would any of you guys be interested in attending? We can reserve a shelter house and the campground facilities there are pretty decent. We are considering the weekend of October 23rd. They have tent camping, camper camping, and luxury motorhome camping sites, with flush toilets and a shower house. Lots of hiking trails and plenty of places to hide and seek caches. Don't forget about the cacher get-together at McCormick's Creek State Park on September 18th. Info on the park: http://www.johnsoncountypark.com/ Hmmmm...9 hole golf course next door...
  13. I've been a scout leader for 18 years, and I have spent probably 500 nights (or more) in the woods. I have never found a dead human body. Yikes. We've found lovers, weed patches, old encampments, wallet without ID but with hundreds of dollars, found a 11 cases of unopened beer in a pile once...had to be at least two years old, the weirdest thing was we were walking Johnson County Park in Indiana and came across this big concrete pad...that had, without a doubt, at least 100 (used we suspect, as they were unwrapped) condoms scattered all about. Was walking down a railroad right of way one time, there were some box cars parked off a spur...as we walked by I heard some music and soon I saw these two guys in the box car, shooting up. They both jumped out and started screaming at me, I took off down the tracks (they were in no shape to catch me) and made my escape. I geocache in the daylight.
  14. Question regarding caches...what is the normally expected lifetime of a cache? Say I hide one out there, should I prepare to maintain it for a month? 12 months? until no one goes looking for it for 60 days? Even a well hidden cache can become a bit of an attraction if your area is loaded to the gills (like Indy) with geocachers. So...would it be best to just maintain it, until no one comes for it for a certain time period? Personally, I don't see how a person with a 40 hour a week job could possibly hide and PROPERLY maintain more than 4 to 6 caches. Anyone still putting disposable cameras in their caches?
  15. I have a DELL Laptop. The battery is no longer functional. A new bettery is like $70 for this thing. I want to take it with me while I geocache, leave it in the car of course. I'm a Skywarn member so I would use this to also track storms and stuff....so I have multiple needs. If I said NO to the new battery and YES to an inverter for my ciggie lighter socket, how big of one do you think I'd need? Just your basic P2 laptop with 40GB drive and 256MB RAM. Model is Dell CPi Any ideas?
  16. My very first cache find was in Sept 2001...it was great...know why?? CUZ I got a cool Leprechan PEZ dispenser out of it! Sans candy of course.
  17. Mine keep saying "Paid Member" instead of Snorkle Hikezilla. I wonder how to change it here......
  18. Yellow eTrex gets 6 chars for name, and no descriptive text that I can find. Thanks to Wild Goose for getting me aimed in the right direction. I have my GSAK set to %smart=6, cleared the GPSr and reloaded the waypoints...all is good. What a great piece of software, I see my donation going out this week.
  19. Ok..I have the Yeller Feller eTrex, GSAK, and my laptop. I have about 300 caches in the GSAK database now thanks to Mopar helping me out with my PQ. The problem: Suppose I have caches named the following.... Captain's Log #1 Captain's Log #2 Captain's Log #3 I zork them over to the GPSr via serial cable and I go look at my waypoint listing on the GPSr. CAPTAI is what I see, and it's the coords for #2 So what I suspect is the eTrex doesn't like cache names that have dupe chars in the first 6 letters. Is this right? Is there a way I can rename the things so they are unique?

    Loc Vs Gpx

    OOOps. Hmmmm..imagine that. DOHT!!
  21. Hikezilla

    Gpx Files

The amout of information. LOC files contain only coordinates, cache name, and owner. GPX files contain pretty much all the info found on a cache page, including recent logs. GPX is well worth the $30 a year to join geocaching.com That would be my opinion...

    Loc Vs Gpx

Well...I have indeed figured out the PQ and set one up last night. How long does it take the query to run and then subsequently get emailed to me? I ran a Q last night at about 10PM EST and nothing has been sent to me as of yet.

    Loc Vs Gpx

I am a newly ordained premium member. I am running the GSAK software on my laptop and I have a eTrex Yeller Feller. (No applause please) When I go to the www.geocaching.com website and search for caches near my home, I am presented the usual listing of about 10 pages of caches. Super. What I want to do, is check all, and then download the file to my laptop, suck it into GSAK, and then selectively upload the days hunts to my GPSr. This works great, BUT, I want the download to be in GPX format and not LOC. When I mass download I get the LOC stuff. I can go through the listings, one by one, and suck them down as GPX files, one at a time....but what fun is that? Is there a setting or something I need to change? Many Thanks
  24. I went premium last night. Within 2 mins I had my email with my secret membership activation code. I browsed to the website and popped the number in and like magic, I was turned into a much more handsome, and much more wise, geocaching.com user. I am now able to leap tall anthills in in a single bound or two. You might check your email address you have on file with them and make sure you're looking in the right place for the upgrade email. It was like instant with mine last night.
