  1. Hi, I have a suggestion for emailing options. I have the option to be notified via email when a new cache pops up on the screen. I think there should be a notification via email if a cache in your area has been archived! I searched for a cache a little while ago...and searched...and searched and couldn't find it! Turns out the cache was archived and I never saw it go. This would be a helpful feature for those in big cities, where there are thousands of caches to find. If this is something that would be interesting then I would like it to be suggested to those who could make it possible. Thanks
  2. Hi, I just started my first travel bug and I'm wondering what some of the features mean. For example, it says recalculate distance. When would I need that and what does it do? I know what report bug missing means, but their are other things one can do to it that I don't understand. Can anyone help?
  3. Hi, I have a problem that needs to be addressed. The other day I found two caches that were hidden by the same person, and on each cache (PVC pipe, and Ammo can) there was a sticker on it that had a yellow background and showed a bear drinking beer with a caption reading "Beer is good for you." Now I know that some cachers drink beer, but it should not be advertized on a cache. Today I found a cache that had a keyring in it that was an ad for Bud Light. I think everyone well knows that Geocaching is a family centered activity, and such ads shouldn't be placed on or inside any caches. I'm wondering if it was the right thing to do to remove the sticker off of the two caches that they were placed on. They were large stickers about the size of the normal "Official Geocaching" stickers that can be found on most ammo caches. Even though it wasn't my cache, I removed it! The keyring was easy to take care of, because I just took it out and didn't leave anything in it's place. Do we have any opinions?
  4. I usally don't, but I should. That would be a great thing to do.
  5. I am new to the Forums! I have been wondering why I can't start a new poll. Can anybody help?
  6. I had the same question, but I asked around and figured it out. To retrieve a bug means that you actually retrieved the bug from the cache. Then you can place it into another cache. But if you place it in a cache and don't log it, then the next person to handle the bug can grab it from you. The point can turn around as well. If you find a Travel Bug in a cache and according to the internet logs it's still in the hands of the previous holder, then you grab it from them. I hope that makes since!
  7. I think it's took care of! The cache has been placed as temp. unavailable! So I'm going to close this topic! Thanx for all your help
  8. I don't know if you will be in the Collegedale area, but there are some embarrassingly easy caches there. i.e. The Duck Pond, Time in a Bottle, The Nature Nook. Once you get there you can click on nearby caches and you will find plenty more. Oh, and there is a cache that you MUST DO!!! Try Careful, You Might Bump Into It That is a MUST, MUST, MUST!!! It is an easy stop, and a most creative of caches. There are more, but they arn't on top of my mind. Have Fun!!!
  9. Buxley's Waypoint I have found this to be very useful! The caches are red dots on the map, and the interstate is outlined as a purple line. I have tracked caches on this site and got the luck of finding caches at the Alabama Welcome Center, the Texas Welcome Center, numerous rest stops, and easy off/easy on caches along the way. The site will open up to caches in the Chattanooga area, but you can use the arrows to point in the area that you want to view. (You will see what I'm talking about when you see it.) Have Fun!!!
  10. My dad isn't a registered geocacher. He just follows me around with my GPSr. He was introducing my aunt to the sport, and taking her around to some of the caches that we had found while on vacation. By the way, did you notice the dates of the DNF's and todays date? I have been on the owners profile, and he has been active but he may not live in the area anymore. You would think that he would have gotten the message by now. Can't one email the approver for that area and let them see whats going on?
  11. The contest is against Florida State Laws; well it is way too difficult for Groundspeak to comply with the Laws, so you may not see any in Florida So if I get a Jeep bug, I can't place it in FL? Is there any other states that I can't place them in because of state laws?
  12. I don't think you can. I think you just become inactive. Be sure that you hand over any caches that you might own or just archive them.
  13. That is an excellent idea! I don't know if you have to put the city on there, but the state that the travel bug is currently in is a great...great idea. Kinnda like the cache listings...they show the state where they are located.
  14. Generalized Check out this link. I am an active geocacher in Tennessee, and I found this cache in New York with my family several months ago. My dad went there in June for a funeral and had some time to find some caches. He took my aunt with him and they stopped by this cache on the way so he could show my aunt this spot because it was a very creative spot. When he got there, the cache wasn't there! I have since logged a note for the cache so hopefully the owner might notice and check on it. That didn't work so after 1 1/2 weeks I e-mailed the owner and he hasn't done anything about it. How can the owner get notified so he can replace or archive his cache according to what he wants to do with it?
  15. Yes, I've got the same question...somebody needs to provide some more info on this topic.
  16. You can count on me to log my DNF. I have several people who laugh at me for doing so because they think that it's an embarrassment to log such logs. I agree that it's a valuable log for the owners of the cache.
  17. Thanx! that info helped ease a bunch of confusion around our home!
  18. The date is the most important thing one can put on a cache log book. That's so whenever someone comes to the cache thay can see when the last find was, and so the owner can view the history of the cache and compare the history of the internet logs vs. the log book
  19. How do you enter into the Jeep sweepstakes? Do they enter your name into the drawing everytime you retrieve/place the bug, or do you have to go into a seperate link and enter your own name every day? It is everyday that you can enter...right? Here's an example...I've found 2 Jeep TB's sofar. Does that mean my name has been entered into the sweepstakes 4 times...2 for every retrieve, and 2 for every placement?
  20. Congrats on your first find!!! I didn't know what to do at first when I found my first one either. When it's a micro cache, I only write the date and my name on the log book and thats it. The only caches that I trade stuff in, or leave stuff in is the regulars. Good luck on finding more caches
