  1. Actually, there's an icon somewhere -- I think it shows up at the bottom left of your screen under the last entry in the thread. If you originally posted the topic, you (and the sys admins) have the necessary rights to close it. After clicking that icon it gives you the option to formally close the topic. Once you do so your thread drops off the list. I learned this after being prodded by one of the "close your topic!" posts. Somehow I thought my thread would just die of old age.
  2. Hmmm... Does this offer still hold?
  3. I think you can find a cable at the following site for a Vx or just about any palm device (they have a very cost-effective cable for my Clie setup). However I don't use a cable between the two, since I independently load my palmpilot and my GPSr with waypoints and description info. You can find a lot of good information regarding paperless caching in the "GPS Units and Software" forum. http://pc-mobile.net/gedc.htm Good luck!
  4. I too have a Legend and an SJ22 Clie. However I haven't tried to link the two. What is the benefit of downloading from the Clie? Does that just get around the Garmin's waypoint limitations to extend the number of caches you can effectively carry around?
  5. We plan to start in Doolin, then spend 5 - 6 days going north to Donegal, then find our way back down to Cork and the Ring of Kerry for about a week (probably in Killorglin for a day of Puck Faire). Not sure if we'll make it out to the Aran Isles or not. I hope to load up a herd of travel bugs before our visit, and would appreciate any cache recommendations. Thanks!
  6. Thanks, John, and welcome - I have no doubt that you will find lots of people interested in trading for your Mapsource software. I'll be adding some more to my collection before long, I'm afraid, but I doubt that I have anything interesting to trade. (All my GPS stuff is in use, and I have no mapping stuff until my MG Europe arrives tomorrow..) Regards Scott
  7. Brilliant! I suppose this will give me the chance to find out if I work for a decent organization or not... I think the real question would be if the IT organization would allow (and support) any special software necessary for dual bootable partitions. I suspect that part of the rationale for preventing dialup outside the firewall is to keep the OS untainted. Thank you, Hokesters, for the excellent suggestion.
  8. I've got a similar situation with "my" laptop. I haven't tried this, but it recently occurred to me that one could use a replacement hard drive and swap it out for travel. It seems that the worst risk would be that your laptop would be upgraded. Then, too, there's the cost of another OS. Good luck!
  9. I have a Legend and love it. The size is reasonably small, although I think I'd really prefer an iQue, so I could reduce my payload and leave the Clie at home. I really like the Legend's nonskid surface; I can just put it on the dash of the car (behind the tach) and not worry about it bailing out (until I get to aggressive turns, anyway).
  10. Okay - I gave up and ordered Metroguide Europe. That's a couple of days without stout... But I'll be able to find the pubs.
  11. Thanks for your offer of recommendations! We'll be visiting for the first two weeks of August, staying at B&B's probably mostly in the west, though maybe a day or two in Dublin. Itinerary is highly flexible, with the only requirement being an anniversary celebration. I hadn't thought to look for an egroup, but will take a look or two. Thanks for your posting.
  12. I'm looking for either Worldmap or some other euro mapsource software. I'll be in Ireland for a couple of weeks later this summer and would like my Legend to be useful there. I've seen postings that assert that Roads & Rec - Europe will work on the legend, but Garmin's site seems not to promote its use (perhaps because the Legend won't support autorouting). I really haven't determined what package looks best. I hope to drop off some travel bugs as well as find a pub or two, so focus is more on figuring out walking access than efficient road travel. All that said, the more I spend on this software, the fewer Guinnesses will be in the travel budget, so price matters. I'm looking for a used package, probably an older version. I'd like to stay under $50 if possible. Thank you!
  13. I chose this inconspicuous vehicle to keep a low profile for cacheing. What I like most about it is it will fit in an avatar!
  14. This is an official cachemobile avatar test.
  15. Okay; just one more vote for the Legend. I've only had mine a couple of weeks but really like it a lot. Screen image is crisp, and the unit is small. We don't have a lot of tree cover yet this year, so it's hard to say if that will be satisfactory or not in midsummer, but so far it's been terrific. Good luck whatever you go with.
  16. I too am looking for a good Mapsource product for use with a Legend in Ireland (also not Finn MacCool!). Oddly, on Garmin's website they show that Roads & Rec is not compatible with the Legend. Is there perhaps an older version that is compatible with the Legend? I've seen several postings from people who seek software for short-term use for remote travel. Maybe we should put local mapsource CDs in airport caches...
  17. Wow - it seems to have been a legendary week indeed. I got my legend on Friday.... It would be nice to have gotten a better deal, but it IS a terrific device. Just need some mapsource stuff now.
