  1. I'm bringing some drinks too, since it will be hot. Soda and water.
  2. They won't approve the event, because I haven't given at least 2 weeks notice. I'd still like to have the event and will be over there on Thursday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm for those who would like to stop by. I already bought some small prizes, so I'll have the event by myself if this doesn't work posting in the forums. Please get word out to those that are in the Phoenix area. I'm including the coordinates and cache description since I can't get the page to be viewable. Schillings Return (Phoenix) GCPAMR N 33° 28.323 W 112° 09.192 UTM: 12S E 392847 N 3704215 In honor of Curt Schilling returning to Arizona for some event (I didn't catch what it was on the news, just that he returned). This event is to swap Travel Bugs while I'm out here. Since there are not many large caches to swap TB's at out here I thought I'd hold an event. I thought this would be a great way to meet other cachers out here too. Since I travel to Phoenix often, I'd like to meet other cachers that would like to go caching. The event will take place in Sueno Park from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. To log the event, you will need to find the special event cache, coords to be released at the event. Plenty of parking can be found close by at N 33 28.294 W 112 09.185. Feel free to bring pot luck Finger Food. There are tables. I be bringing some bags of chips. Please note if you are bringing any food in your Will Attend note. There are also charcoal grills if anyone wants to bring some charcoal and meat to grill. There will also be a dash cache that the finder will get to keep the container and contents. Dash Cache will take place at approximately 7:00 pm. Please support caching through this Rogue Event, LOL. I even picked up supplies to hold a Poker Run with prizes.
  3. Since I'm out in Phoenix on vacation and would like to meet other cachers in the area, I have created an event cache. It hasn't been approved yet, but I thought I'd let people know about the date and times at least. Thursday June 23st from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm I'm holding an event in Sueno Park in Phoenix. This is near 43rd Avenue and Encanto. The cache page will have the coordinates. I will have special event caches set up. You will need to find one of them to log the event. It will have a log book. Coordinates for the special cache will be available at the event. I will also be having a dash cache set up, where the first finder can keep the container and contents to create their own cache.
  4. Hello all in Arizona. I'll be travelling to Phoenix for two weeks. From the 13th of June to the 27th. Anyone interested in going caching with me can contact me through my profile. I'll try to create an event while I'm there to swap travel bugs.
  5. I got mine at the start of the 2004 season. Having Foulke and Schilling I thought the Sox had to win it. I got ragged on all season, especially down 3 games to the Yankees. That's when I created the Red Sox Traveling Cache TB and the rest is history. Now I'm proud to have a name that has some history behind it.
  6. I have a copy of each and I have to say the best is the Idiots guide. If you're looking for good gear recommendations, Eric's book is the best. They all have their pros and cons. For example the Geocaching Handbook is really only good to learn about the other types of Geocaching games out there. The Dummies has the best GPS introduction section. I didn't care for the essentials of Geocaching. Hope some of this helps. I reviewed the books for a class I teach.
  7. I'm from Mass. and I'll be in the Phoenix area from June 13th to the 27th. Maybe someone could organize an event out there during that time. I'd love to meet other cachers from AZ.
  8. I'd hit Nicholas'es Buried Treasure cache in Haverhill, MA. There are some other great caches around here in the same park.
  9. Threaten to get your Attorney General involved. A sale is a sale. They are required to honor their price. Their loss. Don't give up on it. If you need help on fighting them on it I'll help. I've gotten lots of big companies to honor their ad prices because they had no information regarding a typo. Save your emails.
  10. Meridian Color GPS Traveller Pack for $499. It comes with a 64 MB card and DirectRoute software. Direct Route is as good as having a Street Pilot minus voice prompts. It uses beeps and on screen prompts to give turn by turn directions. I have it and a Meridian Gold and it's worth every penny I paid for it.
  11. Yes. I did it for a Jeep TB a couple weeks ago.
  12. I have the Meridian Gold and Direct Route. I don't know how much time and frustration it has saved me by getting me to the cache easily. If someone posts parking coords, it will give you the best driving route to there and even if you only have the cache coords, it does a darn good job too. I have a 1 GB card in mine, but even in a 64 MB I fit all of New England. Direct Route's the way to go and so is the Meridian, which ever model you choose.
  13. I have a Meridian Gold and I bought a 1 GB card for it. More than I'll ever need. It works great with the Direct Route Software. Worth every penny.
  14. As a baseline, I have all of New England loaded in just about 64 megs. Unfortunately, the newer Direct Route only allows one region to be loaded to the GPS. If you have an SD card reader/writer, you can rename the map and write another to it. I bought a 1 GB card for $70 after rebate from CompUSA and it works great. You'll love the Direct Route software, just as good as having a Street Pilot.
  15. I think right about now I have the best name out there. But that's just my opinion. Picked it in April when I thought this was really our year. I even had faith we'd beat the Yankees when we were down 3 games. Yeah...I believe in miracles.
  16. I've heard some of the cheaper cards are not as fast and as a result it will take longer for your GPS to operate on searching the card. However, circuit city has a good deal after rebate on a 512 Sandisk SD card. I just bought a 1 GB card and it works perfectly. If you don't have an SD reader and DirectRoute, you should. The SD reader speeds up writing to the card immensely and Direct Route is the best mapping software out for Magellans. I have it and no matter how lost I get, it gets me home again.
  17. I'll drive out there too. Guess who I'm rooting for.
  18. Up here New England, I'm in the process of creating a 100 stage multi that covers all of NE. I'm going to Maine on Saturday to discuss the idea at a geocaching event. There's a thread in the NE section that discusses it. So far all feedback has been positive.
  19. Meridian Gold with Direct Route gets me to the cache and home everytime.
  20. I have the yellow Etrex too, but also a Meridian Gold. I just purchased DirectRoute software and it's as good as the in car models like the StreetPilot. Worth every penny. And all of New England fits on one 64 MB card.
  21. He's married...isn't this the wrong thread for this, LOL.
  22. Being a computer programmer with Windows, I can say it's because a file lock is set when the file is accessed. Because a problem occured it never released the lock. Usually these are only freed after a reboot. In regards to installing on more than one machine...not a problem.
  23. Have you tried rebooting the machine? Usually it unlocks the files. I hope you get it working soon, because you'll love it. I had the original MapSend software and a Meridian Gold. I just purchased the Direct Route and have compared it while geocaching to another persons Garmin StreetPilot, which are incredible. Sure enough my small little handheld gave directions just as good as the StreetPilot. Plus I used the GPS to get to a place by the compass needle and had no clue how to get back home. It worked like a charm. Worth every penny.
