  1. I'm looking to sell my old Magellan Pioneer. It's just a very basic GPS unit, but a little outdated. Good for a beginner. It works fine- I'm just trying to sell it so I can upgrade. $30 shipped. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a22/laurabird2/IMG_3854.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a22/laurabird2/IMG_3850.jpg
  2. So I got it today. I tried the thing out... and I couldn't get it to pick up more than two satellites. The manual says "After the GPS receiver has received positioning data from at least 3 satellites (approximately 2-3 minutes) it will begin computing a position fix..." but it took like 15 minutes for it just to pick up those two satellites. I was standing in a nice clear area. I don't know if I was doing something wrong, or if perhaps I have a janky GPS unit that doesn't work
  3. I just won this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...N%3AIT&rd=1 It's my first gps unit. I bought it without really knowing anything about whether or not it's a good one *it's older, and I had no luck finding reviews on it.... so does anyone here have any thoughts about it, or anything they'd like to share?
  4. Thank you muchly for your advice
  5. Well, I stumbled across this site two years ago and thought it looked interesting, so I joined. (and lurked)
  6. So today I told my parents I was interested in geocaching. They had no clue what it was, so I told them. My dad's first reaction was that because it's on the internet, there must be all kinds of weirdos and sick people taking advantage of this. Like stalkers. And weird perverts. And people who would plant bombs or drugs in a cache. I'm thinking this is more of his personal prejudice against the internet than anything, but he's trying to deter me from taking part in what sounds like a really fun and rewarding hobby. I haven't started geocaching yet, and I don't have a gps unit, but I am 99.9% convinced that this is a legitimate thing. Also, at the state park where I work, in the orientation session yesterday the guide told us where one of the caches was (not that I wanted to know ... he kinda spoiled it for me). But that pretty much confirmed my belief that geocaching is an alright thing. But back to my dad's concerns... See, I'm 20 years old and I'm also not stupid enough to go out and put myself in dangerous situations. I would definitely go geocaching with a buddy. I have common sense and I know how to use it. My dad did not raise an idiot. And just out of curiosity... have any of you heard of or known of anybody who's gotten themselves in a dangerous situation with a stalker through geocaching? "People can take a good thing and turn it into something bad" (said my dad) I mean, I see his point, but how can I be convinced, and how can I convince him that geocaching is safe?
  7. "AARRRRRR!!! I be searchin' for me buried treasure!" with a pirate accent of course.
