  1. Okay how do I find most recent ones, is there a way to do it if I’m not premium? I haven’t renewed my membership and not sure when I will be able to, and I tried lookin up newest caches but it wouldn’t let me.
  2. Is there a list for reviewers by state/area somewhere? Seems like I’ve seen one before but it’s been way too long ago now. Specifically looking to know who the reviewers are for SC Midlands, I believe is the area I’m in.
  3. As has already been mentioned, geocheckers aren't going to help those of us that don't carry computers into the field, so I recommend against that approach here. But if you're doing an at-home puzzle, the two popular checkers are geochecker.com and certitude. Normally if you follow the link on one of those puzzles, the check page will help you find information about creating a check page for your puzzle. A checksum is just putting the sum of the six digits in the cache page, typically in the hint. It's not foolproof, but it guards against many simple mistakes. (Another alternative is the sum of all the digits in the coordinates including the ones you provide. In at-home puzzles, this is normally preferred, but in the field, it's easier to just sum the digits discovered. The main reason I mention this is that you should be clear which digits are involved in the checksum to avoid any confusion.) Thank you, I think I will do the checksum instead , thanks for the explanations!
  4. I'd almost rather do that, but how do I do it??
  5. That was something I meant to ask, and forgot about...I've seen some caches say to click a link to check the coordinates and make sure they are right. Is there a site to use for that, or how can I do something to have a check for the coordinates? I hadn't thought about the letters spelling something...I wish I had, but I already had to redo it twice, as I mixed up the signs the first time...
  6. Thanks, I will add the field puzzle attribute. It has 6 stages and only 2 of them have no container, the rest all have a container to find.
  7. I'm in the process of working out my next cache, it's a multi, and 2 of the stages are non-physical containers, where you find the sign at the coordinate, and are told this (on the cache page): Just wanting to see if this makes sense, what I'm trying to have them do, did I convey the instructions well? Also, would you note "field puzzle" on the attributes or not? I'm thinking no, it's not really a PUZZLE... what do you think?
  8. We just moved almost 8 months ago from the US to the UK. Went out caching last week for the first time, did a multi. All the waypoints seemed to be pretty dead on close to GZ, but when I put the final coords in they weren't helping us much, and I think they were way off. I'm pretty sure I had them right, and on google maps, we were way in the wrong direction. So I came on here to figure out how to calibrate the compass, thinking it may need that, as it's been a long time since I've done it (and in the US), and couldn't figure out how. So, now I know how to do that, and will. ANYWAYS, as I was reading, I saw a few other things mentioned on helping others' issues, and one mentioned was updating the firmware. How exactly do we do that?? I've had this for probably almost 2 years? Not even sure if it's been that long, but figured it wouldn't hurt to check if it is up to date. OH and the other thing is to make sure you have the correct battery selected...and I'm not sure what kind of batteries mine are, but they are the eneloop rechargables. What selection should I have? I'll be checking on a few other non-essential settings as well, but I'm hoping these things will help, and will maybe be going out to 2nd attempt that final!
  9. Thanks everyone! We are about an hour and a half from Peterborough. I've done very few puzzles (maybe one?), but I might have to work on that one in Swaffham! I am also a part of that group on FB as well, already. I was mentioning geocaching to my daughter today, at a function, and was asked about it, and one of the girls went home and googled it, and she wants to give it a try, so we may go out one day.
  10. They do make those sposie cameras still, but they aren't so cheap anymore, I saw one not long ago and it was like $8. And like someone else said, it costs even more to develop, and it's not even 1hour anymore, like it used to be, but overnight or even days, depending on where you go. :/ Whether a cheapie camera or digital, either way, I'd worry about moisture and temperatures.
  11. What if you hold a regular event, and just put the log in a location a bit separate from the main group with all these ideas, stealth, or the outfits, or whatever. They can sign if they like, and can do the winner for stealthiest, or a drawing of those who did sign, or whatever. Have to try to sign the log without being caught doing it... Or... Sign the "invisible logbook". The idea being that you have to secretly pass the logbook around. When people arrive, you pass it to someone, in secret, they would sign it, and pass it on in secret to someone else. No one knows who has the log book, until it gets passed to them, but they can go around and try to find out who has it, but without being noticable about it. Would get people talking too.
  12. Hi there. I don't think I've posted in here yet...but we've recently moved to the UK, my husband is US Military stationed at Lakenheath, and we live in Swaffham, Norfolk. I can't seem to figure out which region we are located, is it Eastern Anglia, Eastern England, Midlands? I think Eastern Anglia/England is the same, right? Anyways, there are not too many caches in my immediate area, and very rarely an event within an hours drive. I'm finding caching to be much different, in those aspects, than back in the states. Hence, I've not done much at all (have been to one event on a day we went to London area, not long after we arrived, and found my first cache in England last weekend, while en route from the beach, back to home). I was wondering if there are anyone pretty local to me, around, or if there'd be interest in a monthly meetup or anything, more in this area??
  13. I have a cache located in Idaho, between Mountain Home and Grandview, that needs adopted. When I placed it, a friend said she'd adopt it if and when the time came for us to move (we're military), and she said she would...but she's not responded to my adoption requests. We moved out of the area, and overseas, now. I had checked on it in early spring, March maybe? It was fine then...haven't gotten any finds this summer, but it doesn't get found a whole lot in general either, so I assume it's okay and still there, but definitely needs a new owner, or I'm going to have to archive.
  14. I had found one of these once, I think...it was pretty cool. But I'd be afraid to get one myself, worrying that people wouldn't realize it's trackable if they don't look at it well enough...passing it up or keeping it as swag. Any experiences with them?
  15. Thanks! I thought I had, and even used it before, but I can't find it. It was different though...but thanks again.
  16. I know there's a backdoor to logging premier caches, when you aren't a premier member. Can someone link it to me please? I just saw it the other day, and I can't, for the life of me, find that mention, nor any other. I log caches for my 4.5y twins, onto their own accounts, when they go caching with me, and I'm trying to log some, but can't find the link. TIA.
  17. This happened to me, I dropped our first trackable, never a word, and then the cache was muggled after 3 more finders. Since someone has mentioned it's gone, I'd go and message all the finders asking them if they'd seen it in the cache, and if they'd forgotten to log it. But I'd wait at least a good few weeks, minimum to do that, as they may have just not logged it yet.
  18. I generally like the souvenirs...I don't even know why. lol But I think a souvenir a day for a month is excessive. I like the whole, get out geocaching thing, and if you find a geocache every day this month, you get one souvenir saying you did so. That's cool. I'd be more willing to do that. I don't really have a choice either way though, we are moving next month, over 2000mi away. lol It's not gonna happen every day. We fly out the 19th, so I'm really gonna try and get out there on International geocaching day, at least.
  19. I have a cache bag that has all kinds of tools, and supplies. Many times, though, especially if it's a micro, I just grab a pen and go. If it's a medium or small, I'll also sometimes grab my small bag, or just a bag of swag. If it's a short hike, I always grab my small bag. And Then I have a big backpack too, that holds extra supplies, empty cache containers, and more stuff, for if/when I need to go on longer hikes, or happen to need something I don't carry in my little bag. It stays in the car.
  20. My husband and I use the same app store account, and before we switched the settings, anything he or I downloaded, showed up automatically on the other phone. so I don't think we had to pay for the app twice, just once. My hubby's not even really a cacher, but I'd use his phone sometimes, when mine about dies, or he's helping...sign in with my name on both.
  21. Maybe someone left it as an FTF prize, or swag item? If they'd been holding it, and never used it, finally decided to let it go...can't really tell who it was, unless they mentioned it in their logs. You are supposedly able to find an activation code for tags on the activation page, clicking lost activating code button, or similar...?
  22. I'd go by what it can hold (generally). For a box, if only a few small items fit, it's small. If it can hold swag, a log, trackables, and have a little space for anything, regular! This size box in topic is right there on the border, by looking at it, for either small or regular. I'm not sure what I'd list it for, myself (and am not going to concern myself about it, as it doesn't matter for me). A LOT of smalls around here are pill bottles and match stick containers.
  23. I made a lot of beaded bracelets, button bracelets, and bead/button things (like keychains, charms, or chainpulls, etc) for swag. I figure that'd be good, for a good portion of adults and kids alike. I also make my own siggy items from washers. When I buy stuff, I try to buy some non-typical dollar store toys for kids...like I found these rubber bracelets once, just band, and had butterflies and frogs on them. Glow sticks. decks of cards, dice set. I will lots of times pick up intersting things, or bags of fun little stuff at yard sales, or antique stores, too.
  24. A trackable is made to travel, so yeah I like to see mine moving. I don't visit bugs to caches to make them visit 50+, or hold them for that purpose...but I do visit them to the caches they actually go with me to, until I drop them (not if I left them at home, by accident). Sometimes that is a lot until I find a good cache to drop it in (MANY here are micros), sometimes it's only a few. Like I said, no one's ever told me not to, except for people it annoys. I assume, then, they appreciate it...and actually have had the opposite; owners have emailed me saying they've enjoyed watching their bug travel. Thanks for answering my question though. Edit: I guess I was just thinking more conscientiously, because I have 2 bugs, that are racing against 2 other bugs, and they do count their miles for points...so if it gets logged somewhere it wasn't, it messes it up. Not that we'd know of it though, but because we count points per miles, I guess thats' why I was thinking on the correct mileage for this bug and my mistake. all well.
