  1. Note to self........keep an eye out all the time when watching tv!! Well spotted!
  2. And this 48 year old kid as well, heh-heh!
  3. I like Geochecker. At least you know you have the right co-ords before you go for the cache. I have a puzzle cache that has 6 of the 15 numbers missing......and that means the permutation is 720. If peeps want to try all 720....good luck to them!! Gaz
  4. I have a QR cache that is listed as a "mystery/puzzle" which all that have done it thought it was a good 'un. Personally, as I don't have a smart phone, I wouldn't really enjoy a series of 'em. Go for it anyway, it will be well liked, I'm sure. Gaz
  5. Hi Derek, welcome to our hobby/obsession! I have just checked and there are over 13,000 caches within 50 miles of you! What you could do, is to zoom in on Google Earth and get the EXACT co-ords of your house (or from your sat-nav)and enter them into the "search for caches" page. That will give a more precise amount. Then when you pick a cache that you want to go for, just enter the co-ords into Google Earth and you will have a good idea where it is, and using the clue and your knowledge of the area, have a go at finding it. This way, the only cost is the fuel(and time!). If you find that a success, then you can decide on a dedicated GPSr if you want. Sorry, I'm up in Carlisle, so can't help in person. Gaz
  6. Here is a good converter taken from the excellent Mr B's website! Gaz
  7. Yes it must be in the garmin folder, so (assuming you're on Windows) it should be F:\garmin\GMAPSUPP.IMG (but F: may vary according to your drive letters) Cheers for that. I did that right after your other post, and it worked fine. I just used the vista as a mass storage and altered it on the card. Looks good, though I dunno whether I will get used to the contours! Gaz
  8. No, I just made sure the file was called "GMAPPSUPP.IMG" and loaded it on the card. Is it to go in a folder called "garmin" for it to work? Ironically I have mapsource on my old pc, so I dug it out the attic and the fecking thing won't switch on now! I have a Legend that would only take some of the tiles, and thought I would upload them all to the SD card.....typical! I will persevere! Gaz
  9. Ok you fantastic techie peeps....... I have downloaded TalkyToasters maps to my 2Gb micro SD card........so far so good.......checked the file name, ok, the 300 odd mb shows it on the micro SD through my card reader on the 'puter, and I found the correct button on the vista to show the memory status of the card. The problem is, well, I think the problem is, the bit that says maps has 0.00mb! The list is as follows:- 18% full maps 0.00 mb tracks 0.00 mb miscellaneous space340.66 mb (assume this is Talkytoasters maps?) free space 1535.0 mb total used 340.66 mb So, how do I get it to read the maps? Any advice greatly received!!!! Gaz
  10. Cheers for all the info my geo-peeps, I have seen them on wotsits-bay for less than a fiver including the adaptor. Me finks an online order tonight is on the cards......cards?......geddit? oh, never mind! Oh...and happy caching new year!
  11. Hi, all you techie peeps....... I have just bought a Vista HCx off a mate who bought it in June to use mainly for walking, cycling etc, and it has only been out of it's box once! He is now getting an Oregon, as that is what all his pals have. Question is......which micro sd card do I get? There are several to choose from. Does the Vista support SDHC or just SD? Will a 2GB do? I will be putting TalkyToasters fantastic maps on, as I have seen screenshots of them. Any advice would be great, cheers! Gaz
  12. Hmmm....words in the English language....to be honest, it doesn't bother me the differences between the US and the UK ways of spelling, what REALLY annoys me is the amount of "text speak" that still goes on, on the likes of Facebook etc, not so much on cache logs, thankfully. Also punctuation.......another bug-bear of mine. This day and age, with "qwerty" keyboards on mobiles, there is really no excuse for not using punctuation. Just a short story to make you smile:- Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a total mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Amzanig huh? Gaz
  13. Works fine with Google Chrome!
  14. OK I've been out and flagellated myself with a bunch of frozen nettles oh and I'm sure you've not yet read the email sat in your in-box with happy, happy, happy news Looking forward to them so get flagellating yourself GAZ and read Deci's email (and get rid of our icy roads too if you can ). Cheers for the help Deci, I thought it better asking advice first! Dunno what I can do about the icy roads, MBFace!
  15. Have a couple of wi-fi caches lined up, just waiting for some info from one of our fantastic reviewers
  16. Crikey......gonna show my age as too, coz I remember it well! Often had his pipe in his gob! He was also on "How", a programme that he had conceived. Ahhh.....memories! []
  17. Same for me......only the first article was in Aug 2001 And when I started (Sep 2001) there was only 37 hidden in the whole of the UK! Going slightly off topic, my GC.com id no. is 21987, The Blorenges is 6348, Moss Troopers is 5267. All newest cachers are into 7 figures, with a 2 at the start..........just shows how it's progressed!
  18. As I said before, well done for having a go! I am fairly good at "popmaster" on Ken Bruce's Radio 2 in a morning, and often been told "you should go on"............not on your nellie...........the simplest answers are harder to recall under pressure!
  19. I like it.......I like it a lot! Hmmm......now, gotta think of somewhere where to hide it.......heh-heh!

  22. As I'm a nosey bu**er, I have found Andy's email from Google, and I think Lisa is minstrelcat which I found by nosing through members, though I could be barking up the wrong tree!
  23. Just watched it on iPlayer. Well done for having a go, very unlucky with some of the answers.
  24. And when I started way back in 2001, there was only 37, .........yep, 37, in the whole of the UK!
