  1. I left a new Canadian geocoin (geocoins.ca number 2485) in a cache today, but I'm not sure how to log it as a TB on the website and monitor its travels. Shouldn't it add a little icon or image to show the coin is in the cache? The cache was GCWX7M. Sonja
  2. Thanks Fizzy, Maybe the website should not allow multiple finds of the same cache then, because it skewers personal statistics. It should automatically recommend using a note if you try to "find" a cache you've already found. An idea for the site designers and programmers. Sonja
  3. When I look at my little status bar, it says I've found a total of 6 caches, but when I browse the caches I've found, there are only 5 listed. Am I doing something wrong? Where's the missing cache? Is it perhaps because I visited one cache more than once and logged the two visits to the same cache? If so, then the website shouldn't count it as another find. It's the same cache I found a previous time. Sonja
  4. Google Maps rules! Thanks for the change! It's great!!!!!
  5. I've noticed that I'm only allowed to set a new cache near where I live or where I usually go cache hunting. This makes sense, since I need to be available to maintain the cache if it gets ruined by water, stolen, log full, or whatever. But I've also noticed many caches that are in extremely remote locations where it is obvious the cache creator doesn't lives. Take for example the cache near Alert, Nunavut: GC5803. I'm sure the original research team that left the cache is no longer in the area. Are such caches allowed to exist because they were grandfathered in? Or is it because they found somebody else to babysit the cache? Or is it a sort of loophole in the rules? Still learning about geocaching culture, Sonja
  6. I don't have enough money to afford a GPS receiver at the moment, but I do have Internet access from which I can reach this website, and then plug in the coordinates into Google Earth or Google Maps. Using such printouts, I'm able to find quite a large number of urban caches that have many easily identified reference points, landmarks or buildings on the map, etc. If I'm stumped or need to narrow down my search, I can always decode the hint for more information on where to find it exactly. Is there an attribute for "No GPS needed" or "GPS-optional" so I can filter out and only look for these ones? If this attribute doesn't exist, I highly recommend it be added, perhaps with a little "no smoking" sign with the letters GPS instead of a cigarette. Many people who are new to the hobby don't own a GPSr yet, and this could be a way to make the geocaching hobby more accessible to new members. Of course there are limitations to geocaching without a GPS receiver. It's impossible to plant your own new cache without one, and there are also many caches that are impossible to find without a GPSr, e.g. if it's in the middle of a wooded area with no discernable landmarks on the map to know where you are standing relative to the map. 7. Jeremy, A good spot could be right above "5 user(s) watching this cache." Add a line above it that says "4 picture(s) of this cache". xox Sonja
  8. I've been trying to find a gallery of all the pictures that were taken for a particular cache. Eventually I realized that the link is above the recent cache logs. I think this is a bad place for the link. It should be up on the top of the cache page along with other basic info about the cache, for more visibility and clarity. I say this because I like to take pictures of every cache I visit, and I think many people do, and it's a shame if our pictures are overlooked. Of course there should be a mini-spoiler warning, as pictures may contain clues to the cache location. I think photos really add depth and quality to the site, especially to look back at caches you've already visited and remember all kinds of pictures taken there by yourself or other people. Anybody else agree? Any site admins care to use this advice?
  9. What would be the cheapest GPS to just tell me the exact coordinates of a spot I'm standing. I don't want any mapping screens or special speed calculators or other features... just the basic coordinates needed for Geocaching. Sonja
