  1. The spelunking clubs keep them a secret for a particular reason... C-U-R-I-O-U-S-I-T-Y. This thing has killed many cats. Meaning they are dangerous to individuals without the proper technique/training to spelunk caves. Same difference as technical diving vs. recreational diving. You know how to scuba dive, but are you trained to dive deeper waters and penetrate wrecks? You can get seriously hurt or worse. I'll advised to try w/o someone expertly trained in spelunking. -GeoKender
  2. My wife gave me free time.... NOT the day off! LOL They're not going anywhere, I'll bag them sometime soon. -GeoKender
  3. Probably. Had free time this morning, so I took a drive to the Echo Lake office. The key, is to get the permits in person at the Echo Lake field office and not to do mail-ins. There were no questions asked regarding membership to any group. Just a driver's license and the license plate numbers of the vehicles you want tagged. And they're open on Saturdays till 1pm. -GeoKender
  4. Once again Brian, Thanks a bunch! I will try them tomorrow at the Echo Lake field office. -GeoKender
  5. Nicely written. Excellent work Brian! The article has made my whiskers twitch for this nice hike.
  6. Is it expected to for the NWCDC to demand "membership only" for its parking permit inquiries for hiking the Pequannock watershed trails? I wanted to hike and find caches on the Pequannock watershed area and the Bearfort Mountain area and after mailing in all that was required, the $9 fee(2 cars), address, lic # vehicles, phone number... Only to find out today, (9am phone call), from a person identifying themselves from the NWCDC telling me that my request for parking/hiking permit is denied because I do not belong/member of the NJ/NY Trail Conference, period. Sorry, that is our policy. Huh? What is going on here?! I thought I followed every procedure to the letter for filing a request for this permit. Since when was/is this only available to "members only"? Is everyone who geocaches in NJ a member of the NJ/NY Trail Conference? Seems like you have to be. Can anyone who has insight into such matters, or authority, to please stear me in the right direction? -GeoKender
  7. I agree with Renegade Knight. Way too much hairsplitting here. It is nice to be invited to an event. It's just a simple invitation to a party/gathering for a good cause, which you don't have to attend if you choose not to. If you choose not to attend, simply delete the message! That's all. It's not demanding a reply from you. As a matter of fact, the email is not demanding anything of/from you. -GeoKender ps- Would this reply be considered an 'unsolicited' spammer post?
  8. NFA.... I went to PSC up there 15 yrs ago. Is Donnelly's towards Lake Placid or the college from Saranac Lake? As part of my college program, I remember doing maintaince work on some of the lean-to's around Osgood Pond and Lower St. Regis around the campus. Beautiful trail systems throughout the Adirondacks. My most memorable Adirondack hikes were up Whiteface, Mt. Marcy and St. Regis. And who can forget them COLD winters at "the coldest place in the US"! Is the Hole In The Wall still in business there? -GeoKender
  9. Nice meeting both DHenning and Avroair at Matapin Rock! DHEnning, Thank you for the purple koosh rabbit toy you gave my daughter, it was very thoughtful! Perhaps we'll meet again on the trails. Or at another cache! -GeoKender
  10. Fell out of my chair, laughing, after reading this one! Personally, I stay away from them Parkway drive-by caches. -GeoKender
  11. Briansnat wrote... Where is that Cache #2!!! -GeoKender
  12. I heard of salt licks to attract deer. But this one seems to have attracted the loneliest of all the geocachers! -GeoKender
  13. Truffle sniffing boars, step aside! Geocache sniffing hikers are now the norm! That's swine with me! -GeoKender
